Story
Sassy is approximately a 7 year old pitbull mix weighing about 60lbs. She is fully vaccinated and now looking for her forever family. She’s been with her foster mom and trainer Lilly now for 9 months. Can you believe she’s had zero applications?  Sassy loves people and loves to be close by and be pet. She’s loved to cuddle up on the couch or on her dog bed. She is easily entertained with bully sticks, benebones, and toys. She loves to sunbathe in the backyard and lay where ever the sun hits and will gladly accept a belly rub while doing so. She is crate trained, house trained, and sleeps quietly in the crate any time needed. She rides well in the car in a car kennel. She has a goofy personality with lots of silly behavior that will keep you laughing all day. She has done well with all the dogs she has met and been with.  She loves meal times and will come in from outside doing her "bunny hops". Look out for her classic "sassy" lip smack. She is very gentle when taking treats and knows most basic commands. She's doing well with bath time and grooming. She loves going for car rides and taking walks to sniff all the new smells. Car rides and walks are definitely high on her list of favorite things (besides snacks). She is also working on other commands like place, here, heel and wait. She does well passing other dogs and gets along well with other dogs in the house.  Sassy has high prey drive for small critters like rabbits or wildlife, so she would do best in a home with no cats and at least a 5 foot fence. While Sassy hasn't spent much 1 on 1 time with kids, her friendly nature suggests she would be good with them. She has done well passing play grounds and athletic fields. If you’re looking for an older, laid back dog, with a funny personality and sweet as could be, look no further. Sassy is eagerly waiting to finally call a place of her own “home”.  Sassy will also come with 4 free continued training sessions with dog trainer Lilly Staudt (with KeenDog training in Charlotte, NC) If you are interested in Sassy, please complete an adoption application at lastdaydogs.comNovember 6, 2024, 9:04 am

Story
Jax was adopted from us a little over a year ago, his adopter is relocating and she says she cannot take him with her - this is not his fault.  He initially had some behavioral issues and was a work in progress.  Jax is a 70 pound pit mix that is a ball of energy that loves to chase tennis balls and squirrels. Jax is house trained, crate trained, up-to-date with all his vaccines, and knows some basic commands like "sit", "down", and tries to "stay" but gets easily distracted.  With his trainer he behaves like a perfect gentleman on a leash, with his mom he gets too excited to listen. Currently he is living with cats in the house which he mostly ignores, he will sniff them if they are close by but he has never attempted to chase or eat them.  Jax is probably best as the only dog in the household or have a foster/adopter that is willing to feed and give high value treats separately.  He does not react to dogs or show any signs of aggression.  He has been boarded a few times and they report back he was perfectly fine with no issues. He does react if you go near his food dish while he is eating or his tennis balls.  I can take a toy from his mouth, no problem, but that is after a year of building trust with him. He is sensitive around pole-like items (brooms, sticks) he shys away like you are going to strike him. He is afraid of rain and empty boxes but completely ignores loud noises or barking dogs.  Jax needs someone that can devote time to him, work with him, and remind him of his manners. He is very treat/food motivated. We have built a routine and he knows it well, he is a smart boy. He loves a bath once you get him in the tub.  He wants to be close to his human and he tends to jump despite my efforts to teach him not to, so I would say no small children or seniors.    Jax is looking for a foster or adopter, our applications can be found at lastdaydogs.comNovember 6, 2024, 9:04 am

Story
Meet Brantley! Quick Facts: Breed: Pitbull X Estimated Birthday: 1/1/2016 Size: 49 lbs --================================ Brantley hasn’t had the easiest life. He was a shelter dog at a young age who had a bad respiratory infection and heartworms. With the odds stacked against him already as a black Pitbull in a shelter, throw in some medical issues, and he was the perfect addition to our rescue crew. Healed from infection + treated for heartworms, Brantley found what seemed to be his forever home. But Brantley's family grew over the years, and unfortunately, Brantley found himself on the backburner, and once again subjected to being dropped off at the shelter. Luckily, the shelter reached out to us, and we quickly picked Brantley up - though he is now filled with confusion and on medication to help relieve his anxiety. On a happier note, Brantley is still a great companion and we have faith we can find a true forever home for him. He likes to go on walks, showing off his zoomies outside, and playing fetch.. but it's more fetch for you, because Brantley doesn't believe in the vital part of the game that includes actually bringing the ball back. His absolute favorite game is hanging out with his humans - he's a fantastic nap buddy, always advocating for the cause, and would appreciate a fluffed pillow and a blanket. This boy loves a good car ride, as long as you promise snacks for the goodest boi (him, duh). Brantley is dog selective so would do best in a home by himself or with calm, submissive dogs the same size or smaller than him with proper introductions. He does get a little greedy with toys and bones, so Brantley's goodies - like peanut butter filled kongs - are only included in his "me-time" crate training currently. He’s never met a cat that we know of. He has lived with kids and does fine after proper introduction but does not enjoy being crawled on or pulled on, so older kids would be preferred. He does have crate anxiety which we are actively working on. He can go short stints in a crate but then feels like his people have left him all over again. He’s currently doing better in an indestructible crate, but actually is (mostly) reliable outside of the crate when you're not home. If you are looking for a best friend who loves to go on car rides, walks, play ball, and nap peacefully while you're catching up on the latest Yellowstone episode, Brantley is your guy. Before emailing- please read: - Yes, this dog is available for adoption - The adoption fee for Brantley is $265 - Apply at c2cnd.org - The adoption fee covers their age appropriate shots, microchip, deworming, spay/neuter, and any other medical expenses while in our care - Local adopters only. Story
Thurgood is IN. THE. HOUUUUUSE! Quick Facts: Breed: No facts here. Maybe some Hound. Probably some Pittie. Throw in a Shepherd for good measure. Estimated Birthday: 11/1/2022 Weight: 45lb My name is Thurgood and I’m a 1-year-old male and weigh 45lbs. I don’t exactly remember all the details pertaining to my previous life; however, I do know I was recently picked up from a local shelter and taken to my current foster home. I’m house trained, crate trained, and am working on my leash skills. My foster mother says I’m extremely affectionate, although it can take me just a little extra time to warm up to everyone. I do well with cats and can get along with other dogs but would prefer to be the only dog in the home. I’m known for playing hard and crashing afterwards. My favorite activity is chewing, so anytime I get stressed, my foster mom gives me my chew toy, and I’m happy. With just a little time and direction, I’d be your best companion! Thurgood was dropped at the shelter with 4 of his siblings and one by one, they were adopted, leaving only Thurgood and his brother, Tatum, the last of the unwanted - but not for long. Lucky for these two, our foster families were ready for some puppy-loving and gladly took in these boys. This boy may be part kangaroo, hopping over the back of the couch without a running start. He plays with toys in his basket then crashes for a good ol' dog nap. Thurgood is working diligently on being the bestest boi he can be, but will need a family who will continue with his obedience training. Before emailing- please read: - Yes, this dog is available for adoption - The adoption fee for Thurgood is $265 - Apply at c2cnd.org - The adoption fee covers appropriate shots, microchipping, heartworm testing (if old enough), deworming, spay/neuter, and any other medical expenses while in our care. - Our application process includes: a virtual home visit, veterinary record check (please call vet to release current/previous pet records), and a rent check (to make sure pets/breeds are welcomed). Please allow 5-7 business days to finalize the application process. - Local adopters only. Due to us finalizing adoptions at adopter's home, we limit our adoptions to local families in the greater Charlotte area. - If you have any additional questions, email us at dogs@c2cnd.org and we will respond as soon as possible!

Story
Quick Facts about Goose: Breed: Pitbull mix Estimated Birthday: 1/2/2018 Size: 40 lbs House-Trained: Yes --=========================== Goose joined the rescue initially in 2018 - but she came back to the rescue in 2023 and is looking for her perfect home to love and spoil her. Goose has impeccable manners. She walks well on a leash and knows most basic commands like sit and stay. Goose is also crate trained. She is very food (treat) motivated. You rattle a treat bag and she sits right down. To her credit, she doesn’t counter surf; her foster had cookies cooling on a card table, and she didn’t look at them once. She loves toys and plays ball. One of Goose's hidden talents is telling time. She is always sitting pretty and waiting at her food bowl at least 5 mins before breakfast time. Like we said, this girl loves food! Goose is a nervous girl who needs some time and patience to warm up - but once she does she will love you fiercely and show you her silly personality by doing her zoomies in the yard. Given her nervousness, she would thrive best is a calm home where she can relax and be your best friend. A home with no kids and no dogs would be ideal for her forever home. She is currently living with a cat, so may do ok with one in her forever home with proper intros. Before emailing- please read: - Yes, this dog is available for adoption - The adoption fee for Goose is $265 - Apply at c2cnd.org - The adoption fee covers their age appropriate shots, microchip, deworming, spay/neuter, and any other medical expenses while in our care. - Local adopters only. Transport: Rides well in car --============================================ Hi, I'm Chester. I was found roaming a neighborhood and some nice people that I followed took me in for the night while they tried to reunite me with my family. Unfortunately after several weeks no one came forth to claim me. I don't let that get me down though I have met many great people since and I get along with all of them very well. I'm a confident pup so I'm good at adjusting to new environments. I'm still young at heart and love to play. Tennis balls are my favorite! I get along with other dogs and just want to meet every dog I see. Foster Mom says not every dog is friendly so I can't just go say hi to all of them. I'm working on containing my excitement. I've also started training to improve my manners and I'm really good at it! It's fun to train it keeps my mind busy. Although I can be a goofy playful boy I'm also a couch potato. Especially when a good show is on and I get to cuddle with foster mom.
