Story
Ducky is the happiest boy, always eager to make new friends anywhere he goes! This boy has an ambiguous past, having showed up on someones porch as a stray in January 2024. Ducky is on his way to mastering the art of potty training. Currently, he is comfortable in his crate as it is where he sleeps, eats, and spends his unsupervised time. Ducky is a curious, fearless boy who just wants to run and play in the yard, house, and is a cheerful boy on his walks. He walks very well on a leash and is on his way to being quite the Velcro dog. His ideal family would enjoy an active lifestyle and bring him on adventures! His foster family consists of two dogs, two cats, and two adult humans. He loves all of them dearly, although he is still learning to respect the boundaries of the cats. We would recommend Duckys forever home be cat-free. While Ducky does get along with his foster dog siblings and loves other dogs when properly introduced, he would do best in a pet-free home where he can be your one and only! His foster siblings are very submissive, so he could potentially be in a home with one other very submissive, female dog. He has not been tested with children or livestock. Because Ducky can be mouthy, we believe his best home would not have young children. Ducky would likely be fine with older children/teens (10+). Ducky does not have a high prey drive and has low reactivity when it comes to animals and strangers inside and outside of the home. He has a loud bark, so may not be suitable for apartment living. He uses his voice most when asking his foster siblings to play, or when his foster humans are leaving the house. Ducky has an incredibly sweet disposition and his favorite things to do include playing with a flirt pole in the yard, chasing balls, playing tug-o-war with his foster siblings, chewing on Benebones, and going for walks! Oh and eating food! Being a pup who is still learning to control his impulses, Ducky explores the world with his mouth. He can be quite mouthy, though this is a behavior he is learning to control! Ducky is eager to please and very intelligent! He is actively mastering sit, lie down, leave it, drop, and come. He continues to learn commands that help him develop structure and impulse control as well. At the end of the day, Ducky would do best in a home with experienced dog owners who could cultivate a safe, structured environment for him. His ideal family would be able to provide Ducky with consistent, gentle training in a way that best advocates for him, encouraging him to blossom into the best friend he wants to be!

Story
We adopted Kanoa and initially she was a great dog. After about three months one day she attacked one of our other dogs and after much deliberation, it’s obvious she needs to be in a home where she is the only dog. She gets along great with our male dog, but with other females she has a problem. She is GREAT with kids and people. I really don’t want to rehome her, but right now she’s separated from one of our other dogs and that’s no way for her to live. She will be an amazing dog in an only dog scenario, and is completely house trained. We just want her to go to a great home and be loved the way that we love her. Happy to answer any and all questions about her so if you have questions, just ask!

Story
Benji belonged to a foster family before I adopted him a year ago. They loved him and I do as well. He was found on the streets but his nails had been recently clipped so they believed he wasn’t lost very long. Benji is the sweetest boy, he is excellent with children and an absolute snuggle bug. He is well trained and is also very food/treat motivated so he is easy to train. Benji is truly my best friend but because of my health, I am not able to give him the attention and exercise he needs. He needs to live in a place with a backyard and/or with someone who can take him on walks and hikes often. He loves to nap and snuggle but he also has energy (he’s only 3). Benji has spent a lot of time around my nieces (3 and 5) and he has always been gentle and obedient. He was attacked by another dog last year so he sometimes gets nervous around other dogs but if he spends enough time with them, he loves to play. The best part about Benji is that he thinks he’s a lap dog, and he will act like it

Story
Griffin is a charming boy with such a goofy personality! Smart, friendly and playful, he adores all toys (especially bouncy balls) and is always up for an adventure. Eager to please and motivated by tasty treats, Griffin is attentive when practicing basic commands. He has mastered a beautiful "sit" and "down," and he is fully crate-trained. After a busy day of sniffing and playing with his foster sisters, he's happy to rest in his crate with a tasty peanut butter kong, and he sleeps through the night in his crate. Since Griffin is very curious and wants to learn about everything, crating when unattended remains the safest option for this inquisitive guy. Griffin would benefit from continued training on a leash. He pulls because he is very excited to see everything he can as he walks. He barks and pulls when passing people and dogs but is working on keeping eye contact with his walker. At this time Griffin will require a detached home with a fenced yard. Griffin's favorite outside play is anything involving a ball! He LOVES a super-bouncy ball and returns it for another throw. He also enjoys sniffing for treats as we walk around the fenced yard; lounging in the sun and chewing on a ball is a great way for him to spend an afternoon. He has interacted with children but is jumpy with the excitement of meeting new friends, so for now, older children would be the best fit for him. Griffin likes other dogs but requires a slow introduction. Once he's comfortable with new dog friends, all's well and he follows their cues. When he's not busy playing or training, Griffin wants nothing more than pets and snuggles. A lovable cuddle bug, he curls up right next to you once he's worn himself out. Griffin will thrive in an environment that will keep him active, engaged, and supervised. Smart, spunky Griffin will only continue to blossom in a patient and loving forever home! Could that be you? HEALTH Griffin is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and neutered. HISTORY Griffin came from a local shelter.

Story
Meet Shiner – your new best friend! Shiner lives by a simple mantra – eat, snuggle, sleep, repeat. Shiner is house and crate trained. Not only is he quiet and calm in his crate overnight, he also loves to go there as a safe space during the day. Shiner can be nervous in a new environment, but once he warms up, he is the most affectionate boy. He loves to cuddle and be loved on by his people. He also loves a long walk where he can do lots of sniffing and explore his environment. He will sometimes pull on the leash trying to reach something interesting, but he is learning and improving his leash manners every day. Shiner is friendly and interested in other dogs, but he is also easily intimidated and frequently seeks refuge in his crate. He may benefit from a relationship with another dog to help build his confidence, but slow introductions will be key to making him comfortable. Shiner is extremely food motivated and eager to please. He also loves to chew and de-fluff his stuff toys. While no stuffy is safe, he is not destructive toward other household items and will quickly drop anything he shouldn’t have when directed to do so. Shiner is currently undergoing heartworm treatment. He is available through our foster-to-adopt program. In this program, you can take Shiner home, and Hope Animal Rescue will continue to pay for his care until his heartworm treatment is complete. Once he gets a clean bill of health, the adoption will be finalized. Apply to adopt Shiner today!

Story
I am trying to help my elderly neighbor find a new home for his 4-year-old American Pittbull. He is 77 years old, and his wife is 78 and uses a walker, so they can no longer walk and provide an active lifestyle for their dog, Stormy. Stormy is well-behaved, and we are willing to give a few private dog training sessions offered by Puppy Prep By Steele for future owners to help with the transition. Stormy is spayed and fully vaccinated, and we can provide all her records.

Story
I adopted Brody from Angels of Assisi about 5 years ago; he's an incredibly sweet pitbull/boxer mix with no known health issues. He tends to ignore other dogs and focus on human attention. He's incredibly cuddly, and will whine if he can't lay next/on top of you while you're on the couch. He's comfortable riding in the car and knows how to wait for food, sit, and lay down. Unfortunately, he has to be in his crate constantly due to my schedule since entering grad school. I think he'll be happier with someone who can give him more attention and outdoor time. If adopted, I will include all of Brody's items. This includes: -a large crate -a no-pull walking vest -dog food -water and food bowl -nail grinder -clothes (costumes, jackets) -heartworm preventative

Story
Hi there, my name is Cookie! I am a friendly and affectionate pup who loves eating yummy treats and making friends! The shelter can be a bit overwhelming for me, and I appreciate when people take things slow with me at first to allow me some time to warm up. But once I have warmed up, I would love to be your best friend! Like many dogs in NC, I am currently heartworm positive. OCAS will be helping by beginning my treatment but you`ll need to follow up with your veterinarian! During treatment I will be on an oral medication and will need to get a topical solution monthly until I have a Negative Heartworm Test. If you have any questions about this please ask to speak with a member of the medical staff.I am currently available in my foster home. If you are interested in meeting with me, please fill out an interest form https://airtable.com/shrWv1TWfsw834pBdMy adoption fee has been fully sponsored.Adopt me and pay $0.00!!!

Story
INSIGHTS FROM MY ADVENTURE BUDDIES:`Gunner is so very sweet and loving, he has been so lovely to have around. He loves being outside and going for walks, but he equally loves just being with you. He has been around teenagers and done really well with them. We can`t comment on younger children, as we haven`t had that experience. We didn`t know much about his past, but he definitely responds to directions and is respectful of your request. From being around him and observing him, we would say he`s been in a family environment and really enjoys the company. He’s a great addition to any household. He is very sweet and has been gentle around everyone who has come in the house. He is super aware of strangers and does bark at first, but he soon gets past it. He does pull on leash and bark when he sees other dogs, so he could use some training where that is concerned. He would do better in a house where someone is home most of the day (at least during an adjustment period for training), he can be anxious about being left alone. Overall, he’s a lovable, cuddly puppy.`Like all pets going into a new home, Gunner will need slow, monitored introductions to new people or pets. Visit this page for more information about properly introducing pets in a home.

Hello all! This is Cannela and she came to us when her owners could no longer care for her. Cannela is reported to be good with people and is an energetic, fun gal! Cannela has a tendency to want to explore many places & due to this, we recommend that she be adopted into a home with a fenced-in backyard so that she can frolick safely. We do not know how she is with other animals, so as always we recommend slow and monitored introductions between Cannela and any other animals in the home. Come meet this sweet girl today!
