Story
Riki is a friendly girl. Her ideal home is going to be a more mature one where she doesn't have to share her space with other pets. She's the star of the show after all! Riki is an active girl ready to run and play. Her past foster said "Riki is a big, lovable, energetic goofball. Even though she's over a year old, she's still a playful puppy at heart. She's a big sweetheart with lots of love to give! She loves to play and wants all the attention. After she's gotten most of her energy out she likes to curl up in your lap for a snuggle and some pets. Riki is smart, adventurous, and loves to be outside a lot. She knows how to sit and is potty trained! She's a good girl just waiting for her forever home! - Volunteers say: "Riki is a very happy, playful girl. She gets excited when she first sees you, but calms down after a few minutes. She loves to go on walks and be outside. She's definitely a boy's girl. She loves to sit on the couch with the guys and soak in all of the love and attention. She loves to play, but wants to make sure you're interested too. She walks very fast with a lot of strength. She would definitely be good for a mature household, probably with a male." "Riki is a sweet dog who loves to be outside. She is fully of energy and is happy wherever she is. She takes treats very sweetly and gently!" "Riki is a playful girl. She enjoyed chasing after the tossed toy. She would bring it back. Sometimes she liked to play keep away by putting her foot on top of the toy. But if I didn't try to get it, she made sure I knew she had it. Riki is sweet, smart, and fun!" "This is my second DDO with Riki. Once we arrived at Rockbridge Memorial Park she was very anxious to get out of my vehicle. We walked around for quite awhile. Riki pulled on the leash initially, but as time went by she stopped pulling. She would occasionally look back at me while walking. When I sat down on a bench Riki would either sit down close to me and lean into me or she would lay down. During our ride to Andy's Riki was nervous again. She enjoyed her ice cream puppy cup though. She got very close to me on our ride back and remained anxious. We sat in my vehicle in the parking lot for awhile after arriving at CHMS, and Riki got on my lap. I wrapped my arms around her trying to mimic a Thundershirt, and she immediately calmed down and gave me kisses. When one takes riding in a car out of the equation, Riki is a very sweet, calm and affectionate dog." "Riki is a very good girl. She is young and full of energy. Once we arrived at Rockbridge Memorial Park she was anxious to get out and explore. She walks well on a leash. She pulls once in awhile to explore something that caught her eye or nose. She will sit when asked, but not every time. One time she got between my legs and laid down looking straight ahead. After we left the park she was much less anxious and wanted to sit close to me. She took her time eating the ice cream puppy cup and ate all of it. Interestingly she was not interested in dog treats. Riki clearly did not want to return to the shelter. She did not bark, but it took some effort to get her back in her kennel. Riki is a very sweet, friendly and affectionate dog. It takes her a little while to settle down after leaving the shelter, but when she does she's great." "Riki is a sweet ball of energy who's eager to be your best friend. She may come off as too hyper at first, but can enjoy the calmness with you for hours at a time after the initial excitement. She loves chasing the wildlife on the trails, being rubbed down anytime, and can ford creeks with the best of them. While in town, she loves to play tug of war and fetch tennis balls. And if the toy squeaks, all the better." "Riki is very friendly and loving! She is full of energy and does not tire easy but she is very gentle during playtime. She is happy to meet new people and dogs to share her love with. Riki is the perfect adventure buddy!" "Riki is a sweet pup. Once she gets past her initial nervousness, she is a ball of energy. She will jump from excitement but is otherwise very sweet and gentle. She loved to play tug-o-war and fetch. She wanted hugs and pets from everyone at the facility. Listens really well and learns fast."

Volunteers say "If you're looking for a dog that will make you laugh, Janice is your gal. Just give her a squeaky toy and let the fun begin. She absolutely loves toys! She's happy to play by herself but is more than willing to include you in the fun. She would love to have a yard where she can play and explore. She also really likes treats, which will make teaching her new tricks much easier." "She is very playful and loves squeaky toys. One of her favorite games is to play keep away where you try to grab the toy that she holding as she teases you with it by coming close and then darts away just before you get it. After playtime, she is content hanging out nearby and relaxing with you."

Story
Roland is the sweetest little guy. When he gets excited his tail wags and his whole body wiggles. Roland knows sit and down. He is good on walks for the most part. Sometimes his excitement can get the better of him and he will pull. He is excited by people, wildlife, cats, and other dogs. Roland can get jumpy when meeting new people outside but tends to be more reserved inside. He may knock down small children and can be mouthy when he gets excited. He has not exhibited aggression during the time I've had him but can play rough with an open mouth and may nip when overly excited. We are working on this and he has gotten better. Roland is crate trained and housebroken. When I first brought him home, he relieved himself in the house. We have corrected this, though he might regress in a new environment. Roland seems to have separation anxiety, he may be good for a long time but his limit is about five hours. I currently keep him in a spare bedroom when I am away. He is not destructive and does not relieve himself while I am gone. Roland has met other dogs. He tends to play hard, but nothing too aggressive. Roland needs reminding to be gentle and would do best dogs his size or bigger. Cats would need careful slow introductions. He is not a Velcro dog, but wants to be in the same room as you. Unless it is the bathroom. During those times he wants to be in his safe place, which is currently the spare bedroom. Roland seems limited with his jumping. I have to help him into the car and into the downstairs bedroom. He is good getting on the spare bedroom bed. Be prepared to lift this cute 50 pound dog. He will put his front paws up and let his person lift him up. Roland is an eager to please dog that needs an emotional support human. His adopter ideally would be a calm and secure leader willing to invest time and energy to build a secure attachment through training with clear and consistent expectations, gentle corrections and lots of praise. Adopter must be willing to provide plenty of exercise, play, and a variety experiences. In return, Roland will provide the sweetest emotional connection, loyalty, loving kisses and lots of snuggle time.

Story
Radissche has been gently affectionate to all members of our household. She is slow to warm up to new people, but once you're in her circle of trust she is the most loyal, appreciative sweetheart. She gives gentle kisses and likes being close. Before fostering, I used to take her on long adventurous hikes because it seemed that she had a good amount of energy to burn. Now that she is settled in to a regular routine, it looks like she's equally happy being a cozy house dog. Radissche has great house skills. She is fully house trained and knows to go potty outside. She loves to chew on dog chews and I have seen zero destruction or chewing on furniture or anything other than the chews I give her. Radissche would love to sleep in bed with us, but also likes her crate. She voluntarily goes into her crate at night to lick pb from her Kong. She would prefer the bed, but bedtime has been reserved for cat snuggle time (the cat was ours first, and Radissche is not trustworthy with cats). During the day, when the crate is open, Radissche sometimes goes into her crate to chill with a good bone or other chew. While Radissche would love to be close to her humans throughout the day, I do work away from home. Radissche does love having her humans around but has not displayed much separation anxiety. She has been content with a nice morning walk, a walk during my lunch break, and evening attention and walks. Radissche a leash skills have improved, and while she does pull when there are people walking their dogs, she is calmer and calmer about the usual dogs barking from their homes. We have a neighbor with three beagles that bark a lot, and Radissche no longer cares and walks past their house on a looser and looser leash. Pros: House trained- will consistently wait to go potty outside. Crate trained- will sleep in crate (but would love be a bed if that's an option in your home). Does not jump on people. Eager to please people she loves. No counter surfing. No destruction of furniture. Independent enough to tolerate having her people or person leave her in the home for reasonable periods of time. Relaxed and low energy in the home- old enough to not constantly need to run and play, but energetic enough to go on adventures. Gently affectionate- enjoys laying next to her people or draped over them. Cons- Radissche is not trustworthy with other animals. She has a prey drive and I've seen her kill a mole and try to kill turtles outside. She is reactive to cats and dogs and would need an owner who is careful to keep her on leash, away from face to face meetings with dogs and cats. It is theoretically possible to improve this, but she is 7 years old and has had years to practice reactive responses. If her new owner wants to work on this, it should be with a professional who only uses gentle methods because use of aversives or any kind of harshness from humans would only contribute to her timidity and distrust for humans and would increase any fear based reactivity. Calm, gentle walks where Radissche can experience what it feels to not have to react has been helpful. Radissche will never be a life of the party kind of dog. She wants to have a person or a circle of people that she trusts and loves. Radissche is timid with new people and typically does not want to be pet by new people until she trusts them. Trust can be built with time and patience. Radissche tends to warm up to women quicker than men.

Story
Petunia is a happy, curious girl. She's ready to find a great home where she'll never have to worry about being abandoned again. She loves attention! A little TLC will go a long way with her! Her foster says "Petunia is the sweetest dog! She loves to be with her human at all times, preferably on your lap getting pets. She is house trained and crate trained, although there was some regression in both areas when we first started fostering her. But she adapted quickly! We have friends over often and she has never responded aggressively or shyly to anyone. Immediately gives them love! She has also interacted with a couple dogs and done very well. Petunia definitely needs some training when it comes to jumping and leash skills, but with the right trainer I think she'd be a quick learner! She would do best in a home where she can go on frequent walks or run around in the backyard to get her energy out." Volunteers say "We took Petunia out for a walk today and she was sweet! She did tug on the leash quite a bit, but stopped tugging so hard once she started to get wore out. She enjoyed sniffing all the things and eating treats!" "Petunia was clearly someone's pet previously. She loved stopping to get pets and would lean in to get to snuggles. She jumped up on the bench to be close to me when we stopped for a quick rest. She knows sit, lay down and get down. She took treats gently as a reward for following all these requests. She will need to work on her leash skills but since she knows all those basic commands already and seems eager to please, I bet she'd progress well with a bit of training." "Petunia was a very sweet girl and loved attention and praise. She did like to jump but listened very well when we said, "no jumping, or, "down, and was a very happy dog. She did pull hard on the leash and was very strong. She had calmed down and was walking very well beside us but then got scared on the trail of the fire training going on that she could see on the back side of the building by the fire department personnel that you can see from the back part of the trail after it Ys off to the left. We turned around at that point to help her calm down and she did very well again after we got back to the concrete and roadway. She loved a good belly rub also. She is a very good girl."

Henry is very loving and cuddly inside the house! Very funny and goofy, gets into a little trouble around the garbage and has a hard time containing his curiosity. He loves to play and was very good while playing with our other dog of the same size. Outside he can be a bit defensive/aggressive to unfamiliar people and animals and throws a bit of a fit if he can't get to them. He's VERY treat motivated. He's not a big fan of unfamiliar people in his home, can be a bit aggressive and anxious.
