Story
While Mae might look like a giant, she's actually pretty short in stature! She's a hefty girl coming in at 80 pounds. Mae is very loving and loyal to her people. She has been at a board and train facility and learned commands, manners and how to coexist with other dogs. Due to her size, small children are not recommended. She would do best as the only pet in the home and with an experienced handler. If you're interested in a loveable giant, consider Mae today!

Story
Roland is the sweetest little guy. When he gets excited his tail wags and his whole body wiggles. Roland knows sit and down. He is good on walks for the most part. Sometimes his excitement can get the better of him and he will pull. He is excited by people, wildlife, cats, and other dogs. Roland can get jumpy when meeting new people outside but tends to be more reserved inside. He may knock down small children and can be mouthy when he gets excited. He has not exhibited aggression during the time I've had him but can play rough with an open mouth and may nip when overly excited. We are working on this and he has gotten better. Roland is crate trained and housebroken. When I first brought him home, he relieved himself in the house. We have corrected this, though he might regress in a new environment. Roland seems to have separation anxiety, he may be good for a long time but his limit is about five hours. I currently keep him in a spare bedroom when I am away. He is not destructive and does not relieve himself while I am gone. Roland has met other dogs. He tends to play hard, but nothing too aggressive. Roland needs reminding to be gentle and would do best dogs his size or bigger. Cats would need careful slow introductions. He is not a Velcro dog, but wants to be in the same room as you. Unless it is the bathroom. During those times he wants to be in his safe place, which is currently the spare bedroom. Roland seems limited with his jumping. I have to help him into the car and into the downstairs bedroom. He is good getting on the spare bedroom bed. Be prepared to lift this cute 50 pound dog. He will put his front paws up and let his person lift him up. Roland is an eager to please dog that needs an emotional support human. His adopter ideally would be a calm and secure leader willing to invest time and energy to build a secure attachment through training with clear and consistent expectations, gentle corrections and lots of praise. Adopter must be willing to provide plenty of exercise, play, and a variety experiences. In return, Roland will provide the sweetest emotional connection, loyalty, loving kisses and lots of snuggle time.

Story
Jax is a happy, young guy! He seems eager to learn all the tricks for all the treats. He has lived with young kids in a couple of his previous homes and done mostly well with them, but he may be a better fit for older kids. His ideal home will be a busy one where he has lots of toys to play with and room to run. He loves fetch! Volunteers say "We took Jax on a short walk at Stephen's Park and took him to lunch at the outdoor seating at Pasta La Flata. He was great! Super sweet the whole time. He was VERY shy and timid at first, but he warmed up to us after a little while. Jax would be great for anyone really. He seemed interested in the kids at the park like he had maybe been around kiddos before." "Jax and I went on a drive to Stephens Lake and walked around the lake for a while. Then we went to my house and cuddled on the couch and he took a little nap. Jax wants to be as close as possible when snuggling, he is a love bug and wants as much affection as possible! He takes treats nicely from my hand and is a perfectly behaved gentleman while riding in the car. He didn't seem to want to do anything but be pet and sleep in my arms. What a sweetie pie! He also enjoyed playing fetch."

Story
Henry is very loving and cuddly inside the house! His funny and goofy personality gets him into a little trouble around the garbage and he has quite the time containing his curiosity. He loves to play and has done very good while playing with other dogs of the same size. Outside he can be a bit reactive to unfamiliar people and animals and throws a bit of a fit if he can't get to them. He's VERY treat motivated! Volunteers say "Henry was super sweet, and loved getting the attention. He would need some help with leash skills as he pulled most of our walk/jog. If anyone is looking for a running partner, that loves people, this is your guy! He loved jogging with me and did not tire out until close to the end of our walk/jog. We passed a few different people and he was happy to see them. He was very excited to try to get squirrels and birds so he might not be the best with other small pets/birds." "Met Henry today, and we spent our time at Stephens Lake Park. He was excited to be out and about. Really pulled on leash any time we were walking, but would stop immediately and come right to me when called. He loved the lake and plunged in for a swim. Had blast playing fetch with large walnuts, tossing them in the air himself so he could chase them. Would love a yard where he could run and play (especially with balls). Henry needs someone with much patience and physical strength; he's a lot of puppy! But he's a good boy with a sweet heart, and with consistent, gentle, discipline he's going to mature into a loving and loyal family member." "Henry was such a delight and will be the best companion for someone who loves to really *play* with their dog! From the little time I spent with him, he was very intuitive and clever. He was obsessed with having his butt scratched."

Story
Hickory, aka Chuppa, is the sweetest boy! He's looking for a home where he can continue on his health journey with a loving family. Upon his arrival to the shelter, his skin was so infected and itchy that he was 90% bald. After some meds and TLC, he has been given a new leash on life and he's ready to find a home where he'll get spoiled! He likes to talk, especially if you have treats, and he knows how to sit like a perfect boy! Volunteers say "Hickory was a perfect boy! He went for a walk at Stephen's Lake Park and got a pup cup. He was relaxed and did not bark at any people or dogs that passed on the trail. I would take Hickory out again in a heartbeat!" "Hickory was an absolute expert in the car. As we drove he just looked out the window and then laid down for a nap. We took a walk around Mizzou's campus and he did great with all the foot traffic. He loved playing with his squeaky toy on the quad. We ended our day with a well deserved pup cup. Overall, Hickory is a very sweet, goofy, and playful dog." "Hickory and I went to Starbucks to get a pup cup, hiked through Grindstone Nature Area, and drove around Columbia. Hickory is such a curious dog who loves to rest and relax. He's also crazy smart and well behaved. I believe this dog would best be with an adopter who loves to rest and relax but gets out of the house from time to time."

Walton is a big lovebug that's just waiting for his soulmate! He can be a bit shy in new places, but with a bit of patience, he just wants to be your best friend. His finder had him around older kids and dogs and he did okay, but may need some more time to warm up to other dogs. Give this big guy a chance! His foster says " Walton is a great dog who just wants love! He doesn't know many tricks but he is a smart dog who listens very well and has never tried to get into anything he isn't suppose to. He is super chill and loves his naps. He loves being involved in whatever your doing and can be a cuddle bug. He does very well walking on a leash and rarely will pull. Overall, Walton is a pretty low maintenance friendly dog." Volunteers say "Walton is an absolute sweetheart. He was incredibly calm in the car and does great on walks. He loved to do whatever I was doing but he is a big cuddler and forsure thinks he's a lap dog. He was happy to hang out with whoever and was excited to meet all the new people at Starbucks. He would be great in many homes with many lifestyles because he equally likes to chill on the couch or go on walks. He likes to be very close to his person at all times so he would make a great best friend." "He was excellent on the leash, didn't pull me at all and was very easy to redirect if he started to stray one way or another :) He was on edge and stopped in his tracks when he saw 1) a permit driver and his instructor in a red vehicle 2) an unknown man who got out of his car in the CMHS parking lot. He did come over to me once I knelt down and called him, but he was much harder to redirect at those moments. I'm not sure if he's wary of men or vehicles, but something to possibly explore further? He was a bit too nervous to accept treats when we took a break during the walk, and all he really wanted to do was give some gentle kisses and get his big head kissed. Such a wonderful, sweet dog and so easy to fall in love with!!! Whoever adopts him will be incredibly lucky." "We went to my house and played fetch for a little bit, tried to teach him a few tricks, then watched tv for about an hour. He was very calm and seemed to be tired, but was very sweet. I think he would be perfect for a family with kids or just a couple that is looking for a calm dog. I think someone that could give him a lot of attention would be nice as well since he loves to cuddle!" "Walton was such a good dog. He was very excited and jumpy initially but once he calmed down a bit his leash skills were PHENOMENAL. He walked right by my side the whole time no tugging at all and took treats very gently. He's such a sweet boy and any person would be so lucky to have him."

Story
Godfrey is an energetic guy! He's looking for a home where he'll have an outlet for all that playful energy. He seems to really like toys, especially ones he can squish in his mouth. If you're up for adventure, he's your guy! His foster says "Don't let Godfrey's stoic look fool you, he's a big sweetie! He is calm, gentle, and very loving. He is great on the leash and loves a casual walk with some good sniffs along the way. People really interest him and he wants to greet everyone he sees! Other dogs, cats, and squirrels interest him but he had no aggressive reaction to any when out on walks. Godfrey is perfectly content with snoozing away on the couch but can be roused with the sound of a bag of treats. He's very food motivated and loves to show off his trick of catching treats in the air. He can sit too! Godfrey has had mixed interactions with dogs. He could be paired with a dog his size after slow and proper introductions, but would do fine as the only dog in the house. He is a bit too large for small dogs and other small animals. He is better suited for older children (10+) because he doesn't quite know how big he is. He gets very excited to meet new people and is learning how to meet people gently because he just wants to give all the love he has. Once the initial excitement wears off, he is relaxed and ready to chill. He is a good mix of playful and couch potato. He is crate trained, but has been trusted to be left free in the house with no issues." Volunteers say "Godfrey did such a nice job out and about around my apartment today. Very calm and gentle boy. Very excited around new people but clams down easily. He's not vocal so if someone was looking for a quiet and fun dog he would be perfect for them."
