Story
Say hello to April! April is a 1.5 year-old Staffordshire Terrier mix and 59 lbs of pure energy and affection.April might take a bit of time to gain confidence around new people, but once she does she will be your best friend forever! She understands that her calling in life is to act as her human’s shadow and will go the extra mile in order to not miss out on any action happening at home. This might even include her licking your hair while you catch up on your latest Netflix binge!April is house trained. It is likely that April used to spend most of her time outdoors, so she may need a bit of guidance as to where the appropriate place to go potty is. She has caught on quickly in her foster home, no accidents! April is also crate trained. She does well in her crate at night and while home alone. While April prefers to see her humans throughout the day, she does well when left home alone and has not been known to vocalize or be destructive. She requires a medium level of activity and is content with a daily walk and plenty of stuffed toys to play with! April is a curious girl who would love to have a fenced yard to sniff around in but it is not required.April has enjoyed meeting and playing with dogs in her foster home and does very well. She prefers to have a confident dog around to help teach her how to be the best pup! Ideally, April would find a forever home that has a built-in canine companion but it is not required. When it comes to cats, April has yet to meet one! She has shown signs of a prey drive so a meet-and-greet would be necessary if there is a cat in the household. When April is feeling playful, her energy can be very high! Her play style is all in good fun but this may overwhelm young children as she can get a bit mouthy. She would do best in a household with children 13 years and older.April is ready to meet her forever home! With patience and consistent structure she will blossom into the perfect companion that anyone could ask for. If you’re interested in learning more about April and think she might be a good fit, fill out an application using the link below to learn more! Whoever becomes her family will be lucky they did.https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Story
Hi! My name is Dahlia, but my foster parents call me Dolly, Dolly Dingo, or Dolly Doobers.I’m a 2-5 yo Pit Bull and I'm really really cute. I'm a bit timid when I first meet people, but warm up quickly with a gentle, controlled approach. I love to give kisses, and may or may not slobber your face, arm, leg, ear, or whatever given part of you I can reach at the time.I can't tell you what my life was like before rescue, but I'm pretty sure I've had a lot of puppies. I was picked up by Animal Control while running free, and stayed there for a little over a month until I got out. I think I've had some really basic training, because I know how to sit at food time, but beyond that I need work on a leash and some improvement on my basic manners.I'm not tall, but my foster dad says I'm "A real thickums McGee" and I'm not really aware of how solid or heavy I am, so your personal space is at a definite risk with me around, I just want to be by people! I have to be in a home with no other dogs, as I get scared and defensive when they get close.I do well in a crate for the most part, although I may whine when I feel like I'm left alone in one. Because I'm a beefcake, I would also probably do best in a home without younger children due to my size but would likely love them. Overall though, I'm a very very sweet lover girl who just wants to be your favorite companion and best buddy to whoever adopts me.If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling:https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Just as his name says, this boy is ready for the adventure of a lifetime! Indiana Bones is a 1.5-year-old, 40 lbs Pibble full of pure love and joy. He is so affectionate and wants nothing more than to cuddle up with his favorite person and hang out!Indiana is potty trained and crate trained! He enjoys spending time with other dogs and would prefer if he has a friendly buddy around to help him stay confident. If he meets a dog that matches his energy, they are friends for life! As far as cats go, he’s learning how to pick up on their body language. He’s largely uninterested in his foster family’s cats but is working on boundaries with them! Indiana has yet to spend time with children. This guy would love a home where someone is there to see him throughout the day. He responds well to consistency and routine. Indiana’s forever family should be one that’s dedicated to providing him with daily activity and stimulation and, although a fenced yard isn’t necessary, it’s a great tool to help him burn off energy and work on training! With continued love and affection, Indiana Bones will be sure to thrive! Story
Meet Apollo, a lively, affectionate 18-month-old Lab-Pit mix with a love for adventure, a passion for fetch, and a penchant for hugs! Weighing in at 55 pounds, Apollo sports a sleek black coat with hints of brown and a white “eagle” marking on his chest. He’s an energetic and playful companion who needs an active household that can keep up with his high energy and zest for life.Apollo is house-trained and crate-trained, easily making it through the night without any issues. He’s done very well spending nighttime outside of the crate and usually opts for a comfy spot on the couch. He’s social with other dogs and loves to play, though his playstyle can be a bit intense for some. With the right doggie friend and some guidance, he could be a great sibling to a similarly energetic dog. While he’s met cats through a fence, his high-energy nature may make him a little too interested in cats indoors, so a gradual introduction or a cat-free home might be best. Apollo is good with older kids (13+), but he needs clear boundaries and a confident handler to help him understand his strength.Apollo’s daily routine includes long walks and plenty of fetch time. His favorite game is chasing down a tennis ball, though he may sometimes playfully dart away with it before returning. Apollo is learning new commands daily, including “sit,” “no,” and “stay,” though he occasionally lets out a funny “sigh” when he doesn’t get his way. His foster notes that he gives the best hugs and has a hilarious habit of expressing his “opinion” with little sounds when he loses a tug-of-war for direction on a walk. This pup would thrive in a home with a securely fenced yard where he can safely explore to his heart’s content. Though not prone to separation anxiety, Apollo prefers to have someone around; he’s only alone for a few hours a week and would do best in a home where he can get plenty of companionship and attention. For a family that loves the outdoors and is ready to share in Apollo’s boundless enthusiasm, he’ll be a loyal, loving, and endlessly entertaining addition! Ready to meet your new best friend? Apollo can’t wait to show you his signature hug!https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Story
Bruce is a bundle of joy with an endless supply of energy and kisses! At 70 pounds, this Pit Bull/retriever mix still believes he’s a lap dog, blissfully unaware of his size. Whether he's cuddling on the couch with his head in your lap or playing with his squeaky toys, Bruce is a happy-go-lucky pup ready to bring joy to his forever family.Bruce has adjusted well to his new foster home and loves soaking up the affection he receives. He is house-trained (only one accident since arriving) and crate-trained, where he is usually settling down after a whine or two. While he does bark when he hears noises in his apartment building, he settles easily, making him a good fit for shared walls. His change in environment may be causing him to get an upset stomach more easily now, so he's currently on a special diet for a sensitive stomach while we figure that out.Bruce loves to make new friends—that means more playtime for him! He’s been friendly with people and the dogs he’s met so far. When he's met other dogs, they all have been 30+ pounds, so his compatibility with smaller dogs is still unknown. He hasn’t been around children or cats yet, so a slow introduction would be recommended to prevent him from unintentionally knocking someone over when he's excited. He is very energetic, so he likes all the play and walks he can get! Bruce is a fun-loving pup that adores squeaky toys, tennis balls, and anything else he can play with. While lots of playtime is helpful, he will also need regular exercise and a fenced yard to manage his high-energy personality. With his affectionate nature and fun-loving spirit, Bruce would thrive with a family that can keep up with his zest for life. If you're looking for a playful, cuddly, and sweet companion, Bruce is the perfect addition to your home!If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Story
Cantaloupe is a 1-2 year old Pit Bull mix who is as sweet as her name! Currently 32 pounds, she has a charming habit of headbutting people for snuggles and pets, along with a happy “om nom nom” grumble when eating. She loves playing tug and giving kisses, so she's ready to give lots of love to her new home. She is house-trained and is adjusting well to indoor living. She is also crate-trained, happily following treats into her crate and settling in after brief grumbles. This clever dog already knows basic commands like “sit” and has learned door manners within her first night at her foster home. She is a fast learner but still needs guidance while she's young, like learning to stay off countertops and improving her manners around strangers. Cantaloupe has lived with cats and is curious yet very respectful of their boundaries, making her suitable for homes with feline companions. She has lived with a 13-year-old child, and enjoys playing tug with them as well. She hasn’t had close interactions with other dogs yet, so she would likely need slow introductions. This young dog is full of personality. She enjoys short walks or running around a fenced yard. She also likes tossing around some stuffies by herself, then she'd love to play tug with you! When she chases the braid toy, she's happy to go again and again: up and over your knees, under, through, over, under, repeat. She doesn’t require a fence but should be kept on a leash to prevent her from chasing bunnies. Cantaloupe has some challenges to work on, particularly her fear of strangers and new places. Despite her initial nervousness, she quickly bonded with her foster mom. With lots of love and slow introductions, she is sure to improve her social skills and is learning more every day.Cantaloupe’s ideal family will be patient, willing to continue her socialization, and ready to provide her with the love and structure she needs to thrive. She is a wonderful dog with so much potential, waiting for her forever home.If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. She is best friends with everyone-dog and human- she meets immediately. Caramel plays hard, loves hard, and then crashes hard for snuggles. She is fostered with other dogs and loves to play with them, though she’s a bit much for the really little dogs with her play style. Caramel is a social butterfly, the kind of pooch you can take to the cabin, breweries, kids sporting events, etc and she’ll make friends easily with everyone there. She is a puppy so housetraining is a work in progress but she is doing well. She is cratetrained and used to being crated for the workday. She does need a home without shared walls since she does bark in the kennel. Caramel is smart and learns super fast so teaching her manners and what she needs to learn to be the best dog she can be is extra fun! She would be the star of an obedience class. Story
Name: Cora Breeds: Pit Bull Mix Age: Adult Sex: Female Size: Large Cora is a sweet pittie girl who found herself all alone in this cold weather. She is the typical young pittie who needs lots of exercise to be happy. Luckily she absolutely loves to play and gets along famously with our other foster, Batman. She is quite the puller on leash, but is learning that not pulling makes for a better walk. She sticks around off leash and absolutely loves romping around in our fenced yard. She is a bit bull headed (show me a pittie who isn't!), but is learning "leave it" and is very treat motivated. She crates well and is doing excellent on house training (a few accidents post shelter are expected). However, while she is not aggressive, she also will not back down when challenged so needs either slow introductions or a non alpha dog in the family. Dog-savvy cats are also preferred as she does show interest in them, but really wants to play. Cats are surprisingly resistant to playing with a big slobbery dog, however. If you have a friendly dog who loves wrestling, then Cora will fit right in! She would also love a situation where she was the only dog and received all the love and attention. Cora is about 45 lbs and 2 years old Requirements: No special requirements Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. Story
Name: Tic-Tac-Taco Breeds: Pit Bull Mix Age: Puppy Sex: Male Size: Large when fully grown Tic-Tac-Taco is a 3 month old chubby bully pup. He was found at an evicted property, presumably left behind, and was thrilled beyond belief to see the officers that came to get him. They were his new best friends. Everyone is in fact! Tic-Tac-Taco loves people, loves other dogs, tries to play with the cats and learned quickly that was a big no thank you on their part, and just loves life. He is working on his housetraining, crates well for the workday and overnight, and is learning all the important puppy things. He is expected to be a large dog as an adult. He is a typical puppy so a forever home should prepare for all the puppy fun, socialization, training, and everything takes to make a puppy into the best dog they can be. We highly recommend training classes to set everyone up for success. Requirements: No special requirements Adoption Fee: $600 + tax. Story
This 4-year-old Bully mix is full of love and personality! Weighing 52 pounds, Pebbles is a snuggly "pittypotamus" who adores her people, earning her title as a champion cuddler and napper.Pebbles’ past life as a breeding dog has shaped her need for patience and understanding. While she was initially cautious of her new foster home, once she settled, she really knew how to make herself comfortable. She is fully house-trained and crate-trained, happily settling into her crate with the help of a treat. Her favorite activities include sleeping, chewing on toys, and, of course, cuddling. She’s a snoring aficionado with a quirky ability to "sing" with her humans. Her ideal home is one that respects her boundaries, values her quirks, and provides her with the love and security she deserves.Despite her love for walks, Pebbles takes a leisurely approach to exercise and enjoys short strolls at her own pace. While she’s generally calm overall, Pebbles has some leash reactivity when encountering dogs outside the home and benefits from careful introductions. Pebbles is still learning to trust new friends, so careful introductions have been key. She has been socialized with resident dogs and has shown promise, though she cannot live with cats. Pebbles thrives with dog-savvy humans and older kids, as she does resource guard high-value treats and chews. Her foster reports she’s been great with their 8-year-old child, but caution and supervision are necessary in homes with younger kids. She’s currently undergoing muzzle training for vet visits and grooming to ensure everyone’s safety. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who’s equal parts lazy and loving, Pebbles is ready to make your home her own.If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Story
Update 11.8.24  Meet Zeke, the Charismatic Country Boy! Are you ready to fall head over paws in love with a dog who will capture your heart with his affectionate nature, playful antics, and rugged charm? Look no further than Zeke, the lovable Boxer/Mastiff cross who's been stealing hearts in his foster home for the past month. This gentle giant loves people, and people love him right back! Zeke is a social butterfly who thrives on human interaction, whether it's cuddling up on the couch for movie nights or greeting new friends with a wagging tail. His friendly demeanor makes him a perfect companion for families, singles, and seniors alike. Zeke is a natural-born cuddlebug who adores snuggling up with his humans, but he's also happy to be an only dog, enjoying all the attention and affection to himself. He's lived harmoniously with another dog in his foster home, but we recommend a slow introduction to ensure a peaceful coexistence (don't worry, our rescue team will guide you through the process!). This country boy loves the great outdoors, where he can explore open fields, sniff out hidden critters, and enjoy long walks (3-4 miles a day, no problem!). His leash manners are a work in progress, but with treats and positive reinforcement, he's learning to walk nicely by your side. A word of caution: Zeke can be reactive to unknown dogs, so patience, consistency, and reward-based training will help him become a pro. Zeke is a clever boy who's crate-trained and prefers to sleep in his cozy crate at night. He's vocal about his needs, so you'll always know when he's ready for food, playtime, or a potty break. This foodie loves treats, especially bones stuffed with peanut butter, bananas, and frozen carrots. To prevent gobbling, he uses a slow feeder or puzzle feeder, which keeps him engaged and satisfied. One of Zeke's quirks is his sensitivity to foot touching or unexpected contact. However, when he initiates affection, he's happy to be petted and adored. He's also a strong boy who benefits from an Easy Walk harness, which helps him walk nicely without pulling. Zeke is currently working on his fitness goals, and with smaller meals and more exercise, he's on the path to a healthier, happier him. If you're ready to provide a loving home, plenty of exercise, and a gentle touch, Zeke will reward you with a lifetime of loyalty, laughter, and snuggles. Are you ready to bring Zeke into your life? Contact Minnesota Boxer Rescue to learn more about this charming companion and how you can make him a part of your family!  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 2, 2025, 7:24 pm
