Story
A portion of Coco's adoption fee has been sponsored by her friends at The Murray Fund. The adoption fee sponsorship credit of $275.00 will be applied during the contract process Hi, my name is Coco! From the Foster: A typical day with Coco, I am home with Coco all day, with the exception of appointments, errands, etc. After nearly 2 years in our home, Coco has settled in and become a delightful companion dog. She gets along well with, and seems to take cues from, my black lab with a calm temperament. I have modified living arrangements such that the cats are kept separate from her- she seems to have high prey drive and due to limited vision perhaps cant really tell them apart from a squirrel. I had hoped after this long hearing and smelling them, and occasionally seeing them through the gate, she would have become accustomed to them, but alas she is just not a kitty dog. I keep Coco's medication pretty consistent, aiming for 12 hours apart. Coco and Lucy (my resident dog) both sleep on my bed all night. They don't get up until I do, and are great about going right outside and then in to eat and Coco has her oral meds, eye meds, and insulin. She is a champ taking her meds, doesn't resist at all. Throughout the day, Coco and Lucy go between my office and bedroom, taking long naps (they are 9 after all). Coco loves to race outside into the fenced yard with Lucy and search for real or imagined critters. The only thing that deters her is rain! A strange sound or presence will get her raising the alarm, but she settles down quickly and back to her sniffing and taking long luxurious naps in the sun. She may alarm due to her limited vision, but no significant limitations. Coco loves to be where I am, and would rather tag along in the car than be left behind, but thanks to occasional medication and my very mellow black lab, she is feeling more secure and safe as time goes on. She does fine out of the crate in the house, does not chew on unacceptable items, and can wait several hours to go outside. She has never had an accident indoors. Coco loves a long walk, especially a leisurely sniffari. Due to a lot of training, she is not nearly as concerned about other dogs out on walks as she used to be. I try not to get too close for comfort for her, and help her feel safe and confident. SHH can set an adopter up with ongoing training, too. She is pretty stressed, though, if she cant get out of perceived threat area, so instead of dog parks or busy recreation areas, we stick with the familiar neighborhood and a quiet regional nature park. Evenings are super-relaxed. Right after eating their dinner, both pups settle in for reading, watching a movie, or going to bed early. Coco loves to lay on the couch next to a warm body. She isn't a lap dog, not a hugger, but does love to snuggle. Through the course of my veterinary care at The Bond Between it was found that I have diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism, and mature cataracts. Luckily, my foster and the doctors at The Bond Between and BluePearl took great care of me, and I am now ready to find my forever home! I had surgery for my cataracts, and I can see much better now. Future adopters should know that due to my multiple endocrine diseases, I will need to continue to work with a primary veterinarian, as well as an internal medicine specialist (I am currently under the care of Dr. Mazepa at BluePearl.) To manage my diabetes, my adopter will need to administer insulin everyday, as well as monitor my glucose levels with the guidance of a veterinarian. I am also on medication for my hypothyroidism. It is recommended that discuss with my future vet clinic about recommended follows ups and labwork (CBC, chemistry, UA, Fructosamine and T4).

Story
A portion of my adoption fee has been sponsored by my friends at Tito's Handmade Vodka. The adoption fee sponsorship credit of $375.00 will be applied during the contract process. Hi, my name is Rocket! I'm an owner surrender from Minnesota. From the foster: It's now been six months since we started fostering Rocket, and here at home we call her Mary Lou! She is doing amazing at learning and growing! She's been working hard, and it shows. She was off of the adoptable dog list during this time but she's come a long way and is now ready to find her loving forever home. Anxiety is still something she deals with, and may always deal with to a degree, but medications (both Rx and over the counter) are really helping her out. Slow introductions with people continue to be necessary although she relaxes much more quickly than she did when she first arrived at our home. It'll take some more time, but we think this won't always be an issue for her. (and see note about TBB offering training to help with this included as part of her adoption!) She is an energetic puppy and loves to play hard with her toys and run around the yard, and then she crashes just as hard for a nap. Her rumbly snores are so cute! The couch is her favorite spot for naps, and she sleeps in bed with us at night. She likes to lay back-to-back or spoon with you. Mary Lou loves to be close by and will follow you all over the house. Regarding playing, she has now mastered 'shake' and is almost there with 'drop it' when we throw her tennis balls. She also knows 'sit' and 'stay', and - depending on her mood - she comes when called. Treats are a big motivator for her. Because she likes to be around her people so much, she doesn't like to be left alone for too long. She is not destructive at all and she doesn't have accidents, she just gets lonely. Fortunately for flexible work schedules, Mary Lou hasn't been home alone for more than about a 5 hour stretch. Even when we just pop out for a quick errand she is thrilled when we return home. Things we continue to work on: * Meeting people. As I mentioned above, this is improving! And once she feels safe, she loves the attention and having more friends to play with. * She still doesn't do great on walks. We're working on it, and this is something the trainer can help with as well. * Mary Lou has not been introduced to cats or other dogs yet. We have lots of bunnies, squirrels, and chipmunks in our yard, and she doesn't chase them. She seems to have a low hunting drive. A few times we've seen her just stop and look at the baby bunnies with her tail wagging. I think that with the right introduction she would probably be ok (and would likely love) living with a cat. Dog introductions will take more work. Mary Lou requires a fenced yard and someone who will take the time to finish helping her feel safe, and show her how great life can be. She is uncomfortable around loud noise and would prefer a quieter home. Mary Lou will thrive being part of a family that isn't gone for long periods of time. At this point, continuing with her anxiety protocol is also necessary. It's possible with training and growing out of puppyhood that it won't always be part of her life. Sweet and silly, Mary Lou is an absolutely amazing dog and is 1000% worth the effort. Literally every day we say that we wish we could keep her as part of our family. If you are looking for a cuddly friend who will love you with her whole heart and will make you laugh multiple times a day, Mary Lou is the girl for you. * Are you thinking about putting in an application for me but you're seeing that I may need some help with training? Not to worry! My adoption comes with training support because The Bond Between wants to help me and my forever family. They know that some dogs need some extra support after adoption and they are all about setting me up for success. You can ask to speak to a trainer if you'd like more information about it. The trainer will tell you that I am worth it! *

Hi, everyone! My name is Chilli! From her foster: Chilli is a sweet dog with a big heart. She's curious and loves to see what everyone in the house is doing and loves to explore outside. Chilli's about 65 pounds but she thinks she's a Chihuahua (must be the ears?) so she doesn't always understand personal space. She loves to cuddle and thinks being used as a pillow and getting big hugs is awesome. She loves to hang out on the couch with her friends. Chilli is usually pretty chill and likes to just hang out with her people. When there's something to explore though - like the whole wide world outside - she gets very excited and wants to go! She's very strong and is still learning to use her leash manners even when she's excited. Chilli is completely house-trained and has never had a potty accident in the house! She is kennel trained knows that's her space for bedtime and during the day when people are gone. Chilli loves food and treats so she's responded well to training with treats. She's smart and eager to learn. Sometimes she's a little too smart and has figured out how to escape our yard so she goes outside on a leash or tie-out. She would love to run zoomies around a yard with a tall fence. Chilli loves to play and when she sees other dogs she gets SO excited to see them that she loses her sense of manners. Seeing new dogs at the park or on a walk can be a bit overwhelming for her. Once she knows another dog she does well with them - even when they're rude to her. Chilli is very curious about cats and thinks it's super fun to chase them when they run. She doesn't want to hurt them and when they're calm she mostly ignores them. When she's in a sleepy mood she'll cuddle up next to them for a nap. Chilli is quiet and only barks rarely - usually when she's frustrated about wanting something she can't have.

Story
Hi! My name is Sterling and I am from Minnesota. Sterling started with a foster for Minneapolis Animal Control in February of this year before being transferred to a foster with The Bond Between in March. Sterling was adopted in July but returned in early October due to a resident dog not getting along with him. We picked Sterling up the day he was returned to TBB and we absolutely LOVE this guy!! He's 5.5 years old and about 45 lbs. Not only is he the sweetest, goofiest dog ever, he is the easiest dog we have ever had as part of our family. He's just an all-around good boy! His tail doesn't just wag side to side when he's happy; it wags in a circle like a windmill. His body is stocky and strong, and his head is a little large for his body. This paired with his gorgeous coloring and adorable face makes him the coolest dog ever! In adopting Sterling, an adopter will have to be okay with always coming in second to his ball :) This guy LOVES his toys, especially a large ball. It's almost like a pacifier he keeps in his mouth all day. He is perfectly content lying out in the sun, chomping on a massive ball for hours at a time. He can also be found nudging a ball with his nose and "chasing it a couple steps ahead. I am not kidding when I say he entertains himself for hours. This guy loves chomping on toys so much that his first day at our house he found a small tennis ball and started chomping on it. By the time we realized what he was chewing on and that it was probably a choking hazard for him, he had it so far back in his mouth that he just swallowed it. This led to surgery his first night with us. He was incredibly easy-going and trusting of everyone at the vet clinic. Sadly, this wasn't Sterling's first time having a foreign body surgery. A week before he was adopted, he swallowed a large rock that also led to surgery. But this guy isn't walking around looking for small things to eat. He just likes to chomp on toys! So as long as there are large toys around for him, he is perfectly content with playing with those and not things he shouldn't. Possibly one of the reasons this guy loves a toy so much is because they have gotten him through restrictive times following multiple surgeries. Not only has he had two foreign body surgeries this year, he has also had surgery on both of his knees; one earlier this year and the most recent in mid-September. The recovery time for both of these have been pretty extensive and he's been very restricted on movement. This is probably why he's such a pro on lying still and keeping himself busy all day! Despite his restrictions on playing for the time being while his knee continues to heal, you can tell he just wants to run and play - something he will happily do by himself or with his humans. Despite his former adoptive dog sibling not being his biggest fan, Sterling has been great with every dog we've met. When our resident Boston Terriers give him attitude when they all go after the same toy, he immediately backs off. He's a total sweetheart! And while he loves playing with his toys, he will also take a break from them to cuddle up to you or let you give him hugs and kisses. He is good with kids of all ages and our understanding is he is also good with cats. He is potty trained and crate trained. Most nights he goes into a kennel to lay down but we encourage him to sleep in a cozy dog or human bed which he seems to love even more! We're not really sure how he does on walks since he hasn't been able to go on them yet following his knee surgery. We did try walking him across the street to the mailbox but he seemed scared and wanted to go back in the house. It may have just been something about the location because he has had no issue walking in a leash in and out of vets or adoption events. Sterling does great in a car and seems to really enjoy his car rides. He loves to eat (cue windmill tail) and is a good listener. His only real downfall is he is sloppy with his pup cups from the coffee shops so have some wipes handy if you decide to stop to get him one!

Story
My name is Doug. From his foster: Doug is super sweet, happy, loving and playful - everyone that has met him, loves him (even the tellers at the bank when he jumped on their counter - long story)! He's always excited to meet new people (is learning not to jump), eager to learn, treat motivated and very gentle when taking food from your hand. When you need him to be calm, he settles right in and loves to snuggle on the couch but likes his bed too / he sleeps in the best but weirdest positions. He very much enjoys car rides (but not the car wash!) and always loves being in our presence. We do not kennel him. He loves to meet us with a toy when we come home and "talks" to us with the squeakers. He is a VERY good dog and will be a loyal companion. We feel Doug would do best with someone that knows dogs and will be a confident, patient owner who can lead, teach, and provide fun challenges to keep his brain busy (he loves hide and seek with his treats and toys). Doug is intelligent and loves learning and praise. He lived between the city and a farm so likes to chase rabbits and squirrels; he becomes quite distracted in the yard and while walking, etc., we are working on that with a slip lead and harness. We heard he can jump fences although he has not jumped ours, but he hops like a deer so we believe it! Because of this, we never let him out in the yard without watching him - he would definitely need a fenced yard or electric perimeter (not preferred because he's kind of sensitive). He seems tough but is a little skittish around bon fires and hoses/sprinklers. Doug does not "ask" to go outside - his previous owner slept *a lot* and he stayed right with her so he is very used to holding his bladder. He's been with us since July and has never had an accident in the house. Although we know he lived temporarily with large breed dogs and did well, we have not witnessed him with other dogs so cannot answer the questions below honestly - the same goes for children although he hasn't shown aggression towards anyone in our home or yard. I believe in my heart, that he would love another dog to play/live with.

Story
Hi! I'm Zenith. I'm from Missouri. Zenith has a huge head, and an even bigger heart! He is a joy to be around, and is a big snuggler. He is medium-low energy. He enjoys his short walks, but is mostly a couch potato. He is not much into toys, but loves to chew on bones and bully sticks! He is happiest sleeping in the bed with you, but he is crate trained. He is a mature guy, he hasn't needed to be crated when left alone. He doesn't destroy or get into things while we're away, he prefers to take a nap. He loves all people and kids. Although he doesn't know his own size sometimes and can step on little toes and accidentally wag his happy tail right into kids legs. He is a smart boy and knows some commands such as sit, shake, lay down. He is completely potty trained and will bark, or wait by the door to let you know he has to go. He has shown some leash reactivity to other dogs, but we are working on it. His previous foster says he lived with other dogs and did great with them. I believe with slow introductions to new canine friends, he would do great. He needs a home without small dogs or cats, though! Zenith has a few medical needs that will need to be managed throughout his life. He has shown some skin allergies, which we are currently working to manage to keep him comfortable. This treatment will need to be continued in his new home. He currently takes a daily allergy pill and that helps alot. Also, some medicated shampoo baths to keep any itchiness at bay. He has an adorable snort! Like most dogs with squished faces, he has a harder time with excessive heat and long, strenuous exercise. Short walks and cooler weather are best for him.
