Story
Pawtricia has been with our rescue for a number of years now, and she truly shouldn’t be here at our shelter. She’s got sweetness, sass, and charisma - yet she is currently a little too high-strung appearing for most people upon first impression. High-strung dogs are constantly alert, attentive, energetic and intelligent - however their most defining characteristics is that they don’t know how to relax. Learning how to relax simply never happened for so many dogs who grew up strays, got shuffled around, abandoned, or who are stuck living in a shelter. Similar to trauma responses in humans; dogs surviving in distressing environments over time will create shortcuts in their brain that will release adrenaline causing their body to go into fight or flight mode over and over again. The path to teach dogs how to relax - a skill more crucial than both potty training, leash walking, or recall - is individual to each dog. It takes patience and requires empathy and the ability to tune in- but it’s incredibly rewarding. Talk to us if you are interested in guiding Pawtricia into a sense of lasting safety by creating a space where she might be able to take in and enjoy the love she is given, loosen up, and become her true curious and silly self. It takes time, it isn't linear, and it’s not always harmonic, but because Rebel Dogs doesn't euthanize dogs due to trauma responses we have the knowledge and experience to help you be the difference for a dog who’s never received an application. Together we can be the difference for dogs like Pawtricia- don’t hesitate to reach out and learn more about our foster program to help us get deserving dogs out of the shelter and into a home environment! Adoption is $275, which includes spay/neuter at our vet, vaccines, dewormer, microchip, and clean bill of health. Although we work to potty train all of our dogs, we cannot guarantee full house training before adoption. Regression is a normal part of transitioning to a new home. Meet Sabertooth: The Dream Boi That You Wished Upon Star For! Sabertooth is not just a dog; he's a journey of transformation and joy wrapped in fur! Having been with Rebel Dogs Detroit since his days as a feral puppy, he's blossomed from a shy, fearful soul into a confident and sociable boy who now thrives! He loves life with his current foster- and gets along beautifully with his foster doggy siblings- but unfortunately because of medical issues in the home- he cannot stay there! Sabertooth can be shy still when making new friends, both human and canine, but does well with a gentle and proper introduction. What Makes Sabertooth Special? Sabertooth is an absolute delight when it comes to playtime. He hasn’t met a toy he didn’t adore, and his antics with his doggie siblings are sure to keep you entertained. An enthusiast of all things fun, Sabertooth requires a kiddie pool in his new backyard—mandatory for those joyful splashes during the summer days. And let’s not forget his love for car rides; it’s a close second to his pool adventures! Indoors, Sabertooth’s sweet and quiet demeanor shines through. He’s the perfect companion for anyone who loves to unwind with cozy, relaxing evenings, movie marathons, or reality show binges. Introducing Rafiki: A Gentle Soul Seeking a Tranquil Sanctuary Meet Rafiki, a truly special boy who brings love and resilience in equal measure. Surrendered to us after being found as a stray, Rafiki's journey has been one of courage and triumph over challenges. Despite a rough start with untreated seizures, his spirit remains unbroken, and he’s now looking for a calm, loving environment to call home. Rafiki’s Needs: Rafiki's seizures are now 98% under control, thanks to dedicated care and medical attention. However, he thrives in a peaceful setting as too much activity can increase his seizure activity. A home without other pets or with just one other calm dog would be ideal for him, ensuring he remains relaxed and happy. What Makes Rafiki Special? Aside from his brave heart, Rafiki is house trained, crate trained, and wonderfully nondestructive—though he has a soft spot for a good stuffie! His favorite pastimes are snuggling on the couch and playing with his collection of squeaky toys and benebones. He even takes his beloved stuffies with him when he goes out to potty, showing just how much they mean to him. The Ideal Home for Rafiki: Rafiki's perfect match would be someone who appreciates the joys and the challenges of caring for a special needs dog. He needs a serene home where he can relax deeply and bond with his caregiver. A fenced backyard is essential for him to safely enjoy the outdoors. Why Choose Rafiki? Choosing to love Rafiki means embracing his uniqueness and providing him with the stability and care he needs to manage his health. In return, Rafiki offers unwavering companionship, endless cuddles, and a reminder of the impact of compassion and resilience. If you’re looking for a quiet companion and aren’t afraid of a little special in your life, Rafiki might just be the dog for you. His calm demeanor and loving nature make him a wonderful addition to a peaceful household. Ready to provide a sanctuary for Rafiki? His journey could lead to your doorstep, transforming both his life and yours. APPLY to FOSTER or ADOPT: rebeldogsdetroit.com/applytoadopt rebeldogsdetroit.com/becomeafoster

Story
Meet Janet! She is one of the five puppies in the 80's Pop Stars Litter! She is a 4.5 month old pit/shepherd mix and is looking for her forever home! Janet is playful, energetic, and full of life. She absolutely loves all dogs, especially those who will run around and play with her. She is a chatty girl and will even tell you (by barking) that she is ready to play. Janet is also a sweet, affectionate girl who does enjoy some quiet downtime to cuddle, nap, or play quietly by herself. She is a smart girl and has learned so much in her foster home! Janet is crate trained and 95% potty trained. She does great on a leash and is working on basic commands - she already knows "sit", Janet is a young, smart, and high energy dog who will do best in an active home with a family who is committed to her training. She loves dogs and needs to have an adult dog to keep her busy, but also to teach her how to be a dog. We believe she will do great with kids, especially those who are a bit older. Janet has not grown up with cats and did chase the one cat she met on one occasion. Applicants MUST have an adult dog in the home! Your adult dog will accompany you during the meet and greet, and will help select the best match based on who gravitates toward you and your dog. Adoptions are based on connection and chemistry, rather than physical appearance or gender. Adoption is $325 and includes spay/neuter at our vet when age appropriate, vaccines to date of adoption, dewormer, microchip, and clean bill of health. Story
This boy was surrendered due to the wife not wanting him around a newborn. Bob did nothing wrong and is a well behaved boy. He does need time to get used to new people but warms up pretty quickly. He gets along with other dogs and likes to play. He loves tennis balls and loves to chase them... he can fit 2 in his mouth at a time. He does well on a leash and is house broken. He does like children but will need time to adjust to their energy. He can get a little protective over what he considers "his" but is not a mean protector.... more bark than bite. Some added people socialization would probably help him. He is a good boy who was given a raw deal by his supposed family so he;s now looking for a new chance. He is located in Tennessee but can be transported through Rescue Riders.

Story
This poor girl was just abandoned and left at the fosters house. The owner said she would be back for her but never came back or heard from again. Sally loves people but as far as kids go, she is better with older kids than younger kids. She is still working on being housetrained but is doing really well with it. She is good with other dogs but would recommend that they feed separately as she is very protective of her food dish. She is up to date on all shots, fixed and ready for a nice forever home with someone to love her so she can return that love. She really just needs a forever home - are you the family for Sally? If you're willing to love and care for her she will do the same for you. She would be a great family member for the right person. She is being fostered in TN but the transport to your area is included in her fee. We use Rescue Riders Pet Transport, the most animal-friendly transport on the road.

Story
Citrus was living alone in an abandoned house with no doors or windows. We trapped her, and she got very upset. Citrus was growling for many many days, and did not allow any handling. She finally came around to trust us, and is now a loving sweetheart. Citrus wants an understanding foster-to-adopt home, who wants to baby her. She is estimated to be 2-4 years old, and a mix between English Bulldog and Boxer. Citrus has a classic cautious and disapproving yet personable English Bulldog personality, and the silly play style of a Boxer. We are looking for a household without children for Citrus. Leashed walks are fine, she does not require a fenced in yard. Citrus has dog friends at the shelter - but incorporating her into a home dynamic with other dogs will take weeks. If you are up for it, we can discuss. We cover all needed vet care. The adoption fee is $275. Please apply through our website: rebeldogsdetroit.com/applytoadopt
