Story
Nala is a sweet dog, with who I’ve built such an immense bond with the last two years. She is a sweet girl who loves walking, sun bathing, and playing. She loves her belly rubs, treats, and is such a great house dog. Unfortunately, Nala comes from a place of neglect. When we adopted her, we knew we had lots of work to do, so we did lots of one-on-one training with her with a personal trainer. She has come a long way, she graduated from Obedience 101 Class from Paw by Paw. In early July, we had an accident, where she got provoked by a person and she bit them. Unfortunately, because my husband and I don’t have our place, we are looking for someone who’s going to love her and give her the attention that she needs. It breaks our hearts having to rehome her, and I never thought I’d have to do this. We hope to find her the right home, she’s our sweet girl.

Story
Sadie was found abandoned in a cage with no note, and no microchip. She currently resides at my place of work, a dog boarding facility and vet clinic. During my free time I managed to teach her some basic commands, but those commands don't do justice to her potential. I have been able bring her to a home-setting where she thrives. Like any young dog, she will whine in the crate, but after sometime will happily settle. Due to no fault of her own, Sadie does not do well with other dogs, and would be best suited as the only dog in the house. We haven't dried her with cats, but given her prey drive I advise against it. Being deprived from a home environment, Sadie has started to show signs of anxiety, and per her vet has been started on Fluoxetine. Sadie is the perfect example of a good dog in a bad situation, and she will need a patient and experienced owner who has the time to help her work through her past.

Story
AUTUMN Female, spayed 3-1/2 years old Pit bull terrier 60 lbs. Microchipped, up-to-date on core vaccines and takes monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention Follow Autumn on Instagram at #lovepaws_autumn Autumn was incredibly emaciated when she first arrived at the shelter, just skin and bones. As soon as we saw how bad her condition was, we knew we had to get her out of the shelter and into a loving foster home where she'd get 3 square meals a day and soft dog beds to recover in. She's pretty low energy and mostly sleeps the day away. Autumn is super sweet, incredibly chill and snuggly. She's not into playing with toys (maybe this is the first time she's had them and she's not sure what to do?), but loves a walk. She wants to be with her people all the time, but is also happy to be in her crate when home alone. Her favorite pastime is couch snuggles with her humans. Interested in adopting? Of course you are! I'm full of beans and love to play. I'm also content to chill in my crate with a chew toy and my blanket. I 'm cuddly, playful and promise to bring a storm of joy into your life. SPRINKLE Female, spayed 1 year old Pit bull terrier 42 lbs. Microchipped, up-to-date on core vaccines and takes monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention Hello, folks! I'm Sprinkle, the sweetest, most playful dog you'll ever meet. Belly rubs and stick-chewing are my favorite pastimes. I ended up at the shelter due to a hilarious misunderstanding. I thought my neighbor's lawn gnome was a real person and kept bringing it sticks to play fetch. After countless gnome rescues, the neighbors thought it best I find a new playmate and took me to the shelter where my days were seriously numbered until Lovepaws rescued me at the last minute. I've got a heart full of love and a belly ready for rubs. Adopt me and I'll sprinkle joy and laughter into your days (and I promise to leave your lawn gnomes alone)! Interested in adopting? OPHELIA Female, spayed 3 years old Pit bull terrier 62 lbs. Microchipped, up-to-date on core vaccines and takes monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention Follow Ophelia on Instagram at #lovepaws_ophelia Whoever ends up with this certified good girl should buy some lotto tickets, because you're a lucky one! Ophelia was rescued from the PG County urgent list after being found as a stray and it's crazy to think no one ever came to the shelter to claim her. Ophelia is SUCH a sweetheart with a gentle soul. She is potty trained (she even listens to the command "go potty") and crate trained. In her foster home, she sleeps in her crate and doesn't make a peep until we let her out in the morning - as soon as we open the crate door, she greets us with kisses and the cutest booty wiggles! In the day time, she spends several hours in her crate and is happy to rest and relax there. She has a helicopter tail! You better make sure you don't set your wine glass on the coffee table because it might just go flying. She is a SUPER fast eater and will definitely benefit from a complicated slow feeder bowl, snuffle mat or puzzles for her meals. Ophelia is super sweet and playful. She love's plush squeaky toys the most so far and also loves tearing into the stuffed chicken. She loves to play with her canine foster brother and sister. She can play a little rough, which works for her foster siblings, but may not work for every home. She would do best with other dogs who can give her corrections. Ophelia would also be happy as the only dog in your home where she can steal all the attention! She does this very silly thing when playing fetch where when she runs back to you, she doesn't stop and she just barrels straight into you then PLOPS hard to the ground. Once you grab the ball, she hops right back up and is ready to go! Ophelia also has velvety soft fur that is almost all silver except for her belly and her paws - it looks like she's wearing cute little socks and mittens! Ophelia is ready for a forever home where she can receive the love and loyalty that she so freely gives! Could you be the one?! Interested in adopting? Of course you are! Ace is looking for home where he can be a best friend to whomever. He is experienced with other dogs, cats, and even lizards. He’s definitely a big goof ball. If you have children kids will love him. Those who have a space where he can run around or a nice yard would work great for him too. I have found myself giving more time to my job than Ace. And I know he deserves better. I’m not charging anything I just want him to go to a good home he has a lot of love to give .

Story
We are sadly looking to re-home Ruthie, our beautiful, cuddly lapdog whose loud, ridiculous tail wags always bring a smile. We are heartbroken, but it’s become clear that she shouldn’t be in a home with a toddler or another dog. Ruthie is incredibly sweet and absolutely LOVES attention from adults- she is just too unpredictable to be around small children and unfortunately struggles with resource guarding around our older dog. She may do much better with older kiddos who are good with boundaries and have the energy to keep her busy. Ruthie is a big girl (70 pounds) but doesn’t know it and loves getting into our laps for pets. She is a huge fan of playing fetch outside but doesn’t really care for walks (very low maintenance lady!). Please reach out if you or anyone you know might be able to provide a more Ruthie-friendly home. We adore this girl and know she can thrive away from the stresses of having a little brother and a big sister to compete with.

Story
Name: Orianna Sex: Female Estimated Age: About 2-3 years old Best Guess for Breed: Bull Terrier Mix Weight: About 55 lbs Lives With: Dogs, people, cats and kids - she’s great with everyone! Housebroken? Orianna is housebroken and crate trained. Story: Orianna was rescued from a shelter in North Carolina and we are so happy to have her in a foster home in the DC area now. Orianna is a super sweetie that loves all people and gets along great with other dogs and puppies. She knows just how to get comfortable up on the couch with her humans, and will love to join you on walks and trots around the neighborhood. Orianna is just looking for someone to be her new best furend and we know that she will repay them with endless amounts of love and tail wags. Even though Orianna is an adult dog, she will need an adopter who is committed to setting her up for success by enrolling in obedience training and exercising her both mentally and physically. She will also need love, patience, and socialization in order to thrive! What my foster says: Ori has been in foster for a little over two months and in that time she has evolved into an incredibly silly, sweet, chill, and cuddly little girl. She would be an amazing dog for just about anyone but the more people...the better!!! She is great in the home, on leash, in the crate, in the car, in new places, when friends come over...she just wants to be with people and be loved. She is a medium-energy dog so she would be perfect for someone who works from home and just wants a buddy to quietly nap nearby. She'll go on runs with you if you want but it will take her 15 minutes to run a mile. But she'll do it if it means spending time with you! She has been easy to bathe, to clip her nails, to dress her up in various outfits, to do some obedience training with (she LOVES food)...she is a go-with-the-flow kinda gal.  She has met and done well with screaming, rolling, and pulling-on-tail kids since all she really wants is to be petted and adored - doesn't matter by who! She is an incredibly sweet and friendly girl who deserves to be so spoiled to make up for whatever she went through early on in her life (which impacts her 0%). She has the silliest personality and makes us laugh all the time. She is very truly a really wonderful and easy dog. Anyone would be so lucky to have her! The fee to adopt Orianna is $450. That covers the cost of all her vaccines, the collar she’s wearing, her transport to DC and her care in her foster home. She’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, and already spayed. Orianna has been seen by a shelter vet and is being treated for Heartworm. Heartworm is a very treatable illness that is common in many shelter dogs coming from the South. For more information on heartworm, visit our blog. If you think that Orianna might be your perfect match, apply today!December 19, 2024, 1:22 pm
