Story
Little Maddie is estimated to be at most 8 years old, a terrier mutt of some kind. Honestly, her age is unknown but we believe she's at most 8/9 and as for her breed, your guess is as good as ours. What we do know is this. Maddie has exceeded everyone's expectations. Maddie loves all dogs as long as they are friendly toward her. Maddie is great with cats too she minds her business and will not bother them but if they cuddle with her she's happy. She is truly just amazing. Nothing is more precious than the love from a broken dog kept whole by her human love. Maddie needs that 1 chance to at a forever home. She needs a home with at least 1 balanced social well mannered playful dog. She loves people too, just takes her very little time to allow them into her heart but when she does. WOW! She's a superstar with dogs and cats and children. Maddie loves to eat, relax, snuggle, and cuddle, she will steal your pillows as they are her favorite! Maddie loves car rides and simple adventures. Maddie can be very playful and an even bigger snuggle bug. She loves the teenagers that walk her daily. Can this be Maddie's year? Can her happy forever find her, finally? Maddie is house and crate trained. All dogs are sspayedneuter, receive all sets of age-appropriate vaccines including lepto, corona, and rabies, are dewormed and fecal tested negative, microchipped including registration, and kept current on monthly heartworm and flea tick prevention upon adoption. Updated: 4/11/2023 www.animalhousesanctuary.org We believe training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues that arise, need to be addressed and/or rewarded. Understanding that continued training is a lifetime commitment, is very important. Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense. Meet & Greets are required before proceeding with an adoption. We DO NOT ship any of our pets.

Story
Meet Tonka Tank. Also known as Mr.T Who is or soon will be a year old. Tank is a sweet, easy, playful, well-rounded active fun lovely person, just a good happy boy. He can be timid and a bit unsure but if you are confident he will be too. Tank loves his walks as much as he loves his toys. He walks pretty nice on a leash and I dare to say, almost perfect. Daily walks, some toys, and plenty of affection are more than enough to keep him happy. Tank has excellent manners but remembers he is still just a puppy. He is crate and house-trained, and good with people and other dogs. I will cat-test him upon request. With a little guidance and effort, Tank will continue his way to becoming the best family dog. Tank is a very simple happy happy-go-lucky goofy excited boy. His bark is deep and it adds to his size and people feel discouraged. Though, he, truly is just a big dork who is just as insecure and unsure as those who are of him. Tank is smart but not in a challenging way. Tonka Tank is fully vetted, and up to date on all age-appropriate vaccines, neutered, dewormed, chipped, and comes with all paperwork for proof. A foster, or best his forever home wanted. Story
Jasmine LOVES all humans including children if all ages. Jasmine first came to us in 2015 as an 6-month-old puppy. I was volunteering at a shelter evaluating dogs for other rescues to pull. When Jasmine instantly caught my attention. She was sad and depressed and her eyes showed that she had given up. She wasn't even on my list to evaluate. I had decided right away I was taking Jasmine with me and literally had to peel her off the concrete floor. Jasmine has been adopted or had a trial adoptions 9 different times. Each time she was returned through no fault of her own. Once she was attacked by the other dog in the home, and other times she was victim to breed stereotyping and returned due to HOA demanding or pressure from the family to give up a “vicious dog”. Other times it was due to unforeseen medical issues arising in her family (not Jasmine’s health, but within the family that adopted her) and she was returned because they could no longer care for or focus on her properly. This time, after 4 years, she is returning to no fault of her own. It’s no surprise the past 2 years have been brutal for many and sadly Jasmine’s mom hit hard times and lost it all. Even while homeless bouncing from motel to motel and couch surfing with friends and family. Trying to keep her family intact. This affected Jasmine as she's a creature of habit. She has done everything she can to keep Jasmine, but the inconsistency of a home is taking its toll on not only Jasmine’s mom but Jasmine as well. It wasn’t an easy decision, but ultimately it was determined best for Jasmine that she return to AHS. Jasmine is heartbroken and needs time to decompress. She sadly also has a few health issues we need to get straightened out, including the fact she is heartworm positive. Jasmine is an amazing dog who loves children. She is a vocal girl who will tell you what she is thinking and has a sound for each of her thoughts. She is only 8 years old. Keeping her is not possible or fair as her emotional need is prominent. She is good with cats and dogs but lately, she's been struggling. She loves children and all humans immediately. You can feel the love from the moment you meet her. We won't give up on her. Please give her a chance. You won't be disappointed. Updated: 3/25/2023 www.animalhousesanctuary.org We believe training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues that arise, need to be addressed and/or rewarded. Understanding that continued training is a lifetime commitment, is very important. Story
Meet A! AKA Avery. A has been with us far too long. when her original rescue gave up on her due to basic behavior and energy. We decided to give her a chance and she has not disappointed. Avery is believed to be a 4-year-old boxer mastiff beagle blend. Only upon arriving with us was Avery able to experience what a good home is… and although she lacked experience she has been amazing since day 1. Avery is proud, well-mannered, and quite the lady. Structured, disciplined, and routine along with basic obedience training have transformed this beautiful girl into nothing short of amazing. Avery is still a bit shy at first with new people, timid some, but easily warms up. Avery has the potential to be dog friendly as she is here, but this will REQUIRE time and work until adjusted to her new people and home. However, she does just well all on her own. Sadly She can be sensitive and selective with energy. This is why we say she is best as an only pet, to begin with, and slowly introduce her to a friend, eventually in the future if desired. However, do understand that this may not be feasible and at best she can be happy as an only pet. Avery never learned how to properly interact with other dogs but since with us, she is learning every day. Avery loves the outdoors. Enjoys playing with toys, and makes the perfect Netflix cuddle pup. Avery is simple and easy to please and keep happy. Avery is awesome with the kids she has met and loves their joyful happy energy. Avery dreams of happiness forever to find her and we are hoping it’s sooner than later. She has been homeless her whole life. Avery would make a great apartment or condo living pup with plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, is easy to keep her happy. Basic activity and daily exercise have done wonders for Avery. She is active, but not hyper. She’s playful and learning to play on her own with her toys without destroying them. She is crate trained and housebroken. I feel Avery would do just fine with older children who are dog friendly and well-mannered. Have I mentioned Avery makes the best Bing-watching TV buddy?! She snuggles and cuddles and has no complaints about doing so as we binge-watch our favorite series. Avery knows all her basic commands: sit, stay, leave it, wait, come, go to place/bed, and won’t touch her food unless given the okay (release). She is muzzle trained and we are done great with leash training her off-leash recall is immaculate. Avery needs a committed owner who will continue to build her confidence continues to shape her into the dog she is meant to be. Molded to perfection which she's there already. She is easy! She needs a fully secure 5ft fenced yard and an active hands-on pet parent with endless nurturing and love. Avery enjoys family outdoor activities. She loves swimming, running, power walks, and chill walks too. She has no set mode, she enjoys it ALL! She will follow your lead. She loves car rides and fast food drive-thru☺️ For pup cups. She needs an active outdoor-loving family that will include her in all the fun family adventures, that’s a must! Avery is a goof and at times a dork. She is inquisitive and always happy. Full of joy and seeking to nurture forever love. Avery has become a toy hog too. She completely avoids everyone and fully concentrated on playing with her toys. Avery loves to snuggle as her people enjoy watching tv or just reading a book. Avery needs a person in charge who she can trust and love and feel safe and confident and who will not fail her and only set her up for success. Who can lead her daily and keep her intertwined? Sadly Avery has been homeless her whole life. She has been bounced from rescue to rescue because no one wants a smart active bouncy mutt, who has easily outsmarted most. How is this Avery’s fault? From her medical foster when Avery received ACL double patella surgery (update as of 7/30/2020) Avery did well while crated for the most part. She spent 8 hours alone in a house while crated 8 hr per day. She is capable of breaking out of the crate-recommend reinforcing with locks. She will willingly go back into the crate with verbal commands. Avery will not react aggressively if approached while eating. Avery did well with more active playing in a clean and open garage during the winter months as I am disabled. Avery will remain off the furniture if commanded. Avery can become upset if you are in a different part of the house where she cannot see you until she is unjust and settles in. During the early days, she would bark and drool to anxiety. This has not happened in years. That easily stopped shortly after adjustment. Avery does not want to run in the house she will need to work on this with future owners. She enjoys her small space and comfort from her humans. Avery poops 2 times a day. Once in the morning after eating and once in the evening after eating. She can go up to three times a day. Avery was friendly towards house guests but can be overly excited. She responds negatively (hard barking) towards people walking down the sidewalk while she sits on the front porch asking to greet but is easily redirected. She did not act aggressively while walking in places. She did well In nicely spaced public spaces like open public parks and college campuses and trails. Avery does not like small animals. She sees them outside squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, cats, etc. Avery does not like large stuffed animals. They scare her. Avery becomes agitated in cars when at a standstill but happy when on the go. This has improved tremendously. Avery does not react to fireworks, sirens, or other loud noises in urban areas and big city noises. Avery did well getting bathed outdoors and indoors. Nail trimming was surprisingly easy (she is amazing). Avery is house and crate trained, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, and corona, as well as rabies shot, dewormed, fecal tested negative, microchipped, neutered, and on monthly heartworm flea/tick prevention. Updated: 4/11/2023 www.animalhousesanctuary.org We believe training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues that arise, need to be addressed and/or rewarded. Story
Meet Looney Tunes! He is DEAF. 3 yr old boxer cattle dog boxer lab mix He is sweet happy full of piss and vinegar HAPPY GO LUCKY and ready to seize the day. LT is always all wags and wiggles and smiles for miles ready to love every person and animal he meets. Looney Tunes will always be seen happy and in a welcoming mood 27/7. He will invite everyone to play anyone willing to give him the attention and time and join him in his playful adventures. He is a cat, and dogs of all sizes are friendly. People are COOL TOO! Looney is active and sometimes we need to intervene to calm him down. He is just so happy go lucky, active outgoing, and DEAF..... that’s right Looney Tunes is deaf but it has no negative effect on him. He is goofy and always ready for an adventure. Looney Tune is a food-motivated house and crate trained, signal trained as well as vibration collar trained. For a deaf dog who doesn’t know he’s different, he is crazy smart and always happy. Looney Tunes would love an active family with an active lifestyle, a nice fenced-in yard, and other dogs to play with. Looney Tunes is a distemper survivor and has scarred lungs. This causes him to wheeze a bit much when active. Nothing much that can be done, he does need breathing treatments if he catches a cold which has not happened in years. Yes, it sounds scary but doesn't let this scare you away. He is house and crate trained, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, rabies, de-wormed, fecal tested negative, micro-chipped, neutered, and on monthly heart-worm flea/tick prevention. Story
Meet sweet Peaches! She is sweet as peaches! Peaches is believed to be 6 to 8 years old and a Greyhound/Boxer pit bull mix. She is amazing. She loves every human she meets, big and small. She is an amazing athlete. Peaches enjoys agility, the outdoors, and runs. But when home, she's the biggest coach potato. She's the best of both worlds. Peaches is very athletic - she can leap a 10-foot wall if she wanted to but she doesn't so long as she has her people who love her. Peaches has been around kids as young as newborns and many special needs kids of all ages and she loves them all. She is a no-go with cats or any small critter but ok with bird flock, and good with dogs too. or she can be an only fur pup as long as there is someone with her for her most of the time. Peaches' biggest fear is rumbles in the sky so when it's thundering we do not allow her outdoors unsupervised just in case she panics. Sweet Peaches is house and crate trained, not destructive, loves toys and is very food motivated. She loves adventures, big and small. She loves food. Peaches does not need to be crated but does so ok. She enjoys hikes, swimming, boating, really anything indoors or outdoors as long as she gets to be with her people. Agility is her all-time favorite but again must be done with her people. Truly being with and pleasing her humans is her favorite thing in the world. Peaches is house and crate trained, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, rabies, de wormed, fecal tested negative, micro-chipped, neutered, and on monthly heart-worm flea/tick prevention.
