Story
You may recognize this good girl. Diamond is back with us at MHS now and she is hoping to find a family who is a perfect fit for her. Yes, she was returned to us, but that is not necessarily all bad! We now know new information that will help us set her up for success in her next home! Diamond is the perfect companion. She is loyal, loving, affectionate, and is very tuned-in when she is with you. She's an easy-going, lazy, couch potato and is content with a life of leisure! Don't get us wrong, Diamond loves daily walkies, but for the most part she is quite chill. Diamond's ideal home would be one with a quiet environment. We are basically calling all introverts! Lots of visitors and running around and commotion is not her pace and we totally understand that! So, if you are someone who has a low-key lifestyle and likes to snuggle close to their dog, you may want to come and meet Diamond. She asks for a slow introduction to new people but once she feels safe with you, she is all in. The way that she trusts our staff and volunteers is incredible. She just needs time to learn that new people are just new friends. After she is over that hump, she likes to sit right next to you and ask for belly rubs once she knows you. She's done best interacting with equally playful and friendly male dogs. Diamond is so people-oriented that she'd also be content to have it be just her. She does ask for no kitty friends. Since a quiet home setting would be best for Diamond, we think teenagers and older is a great option! Diamond is about six and a half years old and is spayed. We hope you see all the love Diamond has to offer. Please come meet her!

Story
This handsome hunk is Hank. He is the epitome of a good boy, and has the best manners! He knows how to sit, lay down, stay, come, and is learning how to shake paws! He loves snuggling and has no idea that he is a bigger boy to be a lap dog! He will lay politely right next to you, if asked! Otherwise, he'll be as close as allowed because he is such a love bug. Hank has done well on field trips. He likes to get to know new friends politely before being the snuggle bug we all know he is. In the home, he loves his downtime and thrives when it is more on the quiet side. If you are someone who does not have a hustly-bustly kind of home setting, that is perfect for Hank, too! As far as other furry friends go, Hank does well when he sees dogs out in public! He has adorable play bows and interacts nicely. In the home, though, he asked us to relay that he would prefer it to be just him as the only furbaby. He is the most sweet and loyal boy to his family. He'd love it if everyone in the home was at least teen-aged and up. Hank is a little older than three-and-a-half years old and he is neutered. He is about 65-pounds and is a short, stocky lil' dude!

Story
"Adoptable Flower's typical day is eating breakfast before I go to work, going out for a short walk/potty-break, then I assume she sleeps in my bed while I am gone! When I get home from work, she is waiting for me at the front door wiggling her little body all over the place. She usually has her squeaky pig in her mouth. We go out for a walk around the yard, then it's time for dinner. She goes out a couple more times before bedtime. I think she would absolutely love to be adopted by a family with a fenced-in yard so she can run around whenever she wants and however fast she wants...unless she is adopted by someone who likes to go for walks and maybe run a little bit, lol. She really is a sweet girl. She likes to be with people. Wants to sit on your lap, but also will just chill on the floor with her toys, too. She definitely likes toys. She is great with my grandkids (about four years and older). She waits for you to tell her it's okay to eat, plus she eats any pills without spitting them out." -Flower's foster mom. Flower welcomes visitors with open paws and has absolutely wonderful manners. She is long overdue and is very deserving of a family to call her own. She asks to be the only furbaby and is waiting patiently to be chosen. She is about five years old and is spayed.

Story
Time with Pookie is the best way we can think of to spend our time. She has done amazing meeting respectful kiddos! She's also gone on several field trips, and she gets the same review every time: "She LOVES to snuggle!" If you are someone who finds snuggling with your dog relaxing and therapeutic, please come meet Pookie. Or if your kiddos need a loyal best friend, come meet Pookie! She will hop upon your lap if invited but is also quite respectful. She loves to chase tennis balls and play fetch. She'll always choose interacting with people over playing. She's done quite well with submissive, friendly shelter dogs! Pookie would ask for a home without kitty friends. She is about two-and-a-half years old and is spayed and is the ultimate sweetheart.

Story
Spud is currently in a foster home! To adopt her, please call us at 219-872-4499. This itty bitty potato-ish pittie is Spud. Spud is a good girl and we all love Spud. She's a lil' shorty and is only about 48-pounds. Perfectly sized for cozy cuddles! When she gets excited, her little paws do the cutest tippy-taps and she melts our hearts. The way to Spud's heart is not through food...this girl is all about the booty scratches and patience. She has a timid and reserved personality. We think that the shelter environment isn't helping her stress, so please be willing to spend time with Spud so she can get to know you. Once she is out of her kennel for a bit, she relaxes and shows off her silly side, which has been so fun to get to know. A quiet and calm home is where we think she'd be happiest. For example, Spud's zoomies are hilarious. We could watch her zoom all day. She also likes tennis balls! When she has been up in the office with us, she will walk around soliciting affection and pets. Since she is still a bit unsure, we are working in dog and cat introductions slowly to set her up for success. We think she may be most comfortable having the home to herself as the only furbaby. We've not observed her behavior around children but think she would feel most comfortable if children were about 10ish and older. Spud is about three years old and is spayed.

Story
This big ol' boy is Benji! He is about four years old and is neutered. Benji's smile makes us smile. And let's talk about his manners, too! We've not met a dog who takes treats more gently than Benji does. He also knows how to sit, lay down, shake with both paws, stay, and come. Benji knows that many people don't want a large dog jumping on him, so he added that to his list of amazing characteristics! Benji loves to play with toys and he gets the cutest zoomies when he really gets into them! Once he knows you, Benji likes to snuggle close. He believes he is a lap dog and we don't have the heart to tell him that he isn't! In his previous home, Benji lived with dog friends as well as kiddos (about 9ish and older) and he did well! We're still monitoring his dog-to-dog interactions at MHS. He'd prefer no kitty friends. Just give Benji boy a few minutes to get to know you when you stop by. He is a total ham and is showing to be a professional goofball.
