Story
To help us make a great fit for you, and any of our dogs as well, please include information about yourself(Home, family, yard/fence, work hours, other pets...) and/or use our application at sparrowdogs.com. COURTESY POST---This handsome boy is NOT with our rescue, he is with his family right now and we are helping them to find a wonderful home for Cooper. You can look at his pictures and see that Cooper is a very much loved family member. He has had a wonderful life with his people, and his other dog pal. And he really is an awesome guy, full of life and exuberance. But, that occasional over the top personality is a little too much for a family that just welcomed a newborn. So, no judgement there, they are just trying to make the best decisions for their baby as well as Cooper. Cooper is a 5 year old Pitbull mix. The family had initially adopted him a few years ago from a rescue, he had been left tied to a tree at some point in his life and was also heartworm positive. He has been treated for the heartworms and he is a healthy, robust and fully vetted boy. Cooper has lived with his other dog buddy and does well. Occasionally they play a little too rough(of course!) when they get a bit excited. He also lives with a cat that he wants to play with, however, the cat is not that interested in playing with Cooper, lol. Cooper's family says that he can be a little bit of an energy overload at times, he gets so exited meeting new people and dogs, gets excited about being outside and will jump on people and even has a big waggy tail that can hurt a little bit on the receiving end, lol. He is on some calming meds at this point, but perhaps could wean off of them in a small child free and also an active home to burn off some of that energy. Cooper's family has been working with a trainer and he is doing well. HE knows, sit, lay, shake and is doing well with place training on a mat, as well as a slip lead for a calming control device. When Cooper is not enjoying all the excitement of his life he is also a very laid back guy. If you are relaxing, well, he is right there with you. Cooper is a professional snuggler and loves to be by your side, keeping your feet warm in bed, or cozied up for some Netflix! Cooper will most likely do better in a rural situation where he does not have as many distractions such as other dogs, people cars and such to get him overly excited. Cooper is an extra special guy that deserves all the best. His family is hoping to find an active, loving home, older kids would be best. He lives with another male dog now, but really does well with older female dogs. If you have an awesome home for an awesome dog, please email Kristine at joysparrows@gmail.com.

Story
Mookie is a beautiful 9-year-old Pit Mix, weighing just under 80lbs. She was in a foster home for a couple years before being transferred to our rescue. Mookie has been at WCHS for over 2.5 years waiting for a family to take her in.Mookie is sweet and playful with the people she knows and trusts. She needs slow introductions, but once she trusts you, she is madly in love! Mookie always keeps her kennel clean and enjoys playing with squeaky plush toys and snuggling in bed. She loves to go on walks with all her volunteer friends. She thinks she's a lap dog too, and it's hard to tell that sweet face no! Mookie's favorite outdoor activities include sunbathing and taking naps in the pool. Mookie has been diagnosed with arthritis and hypothyroidism. She is on meds for both and seems to be doing well! She is working on losing some weight to help with the arthritis, too. Mookie does prefer to be the only dog in the home. She isn't a fan of cats.Mookie is a wonderful dog who is deeply loved by shelter staff and volunteers. We hope her forever family will come soon!

Story
Queenie is a gorgeous, 4 year old, 70lb pit mix who is just a giant baby in disguise. She is full of energy and loves to play! She has no knowledge of personal space and just wants to be on top of you and in your face. She loves to greet you with her sweet face and wagging tail. She would make an excellent companion and cuddle buddy! Queenie has been at WCHS for over 2.5 years waiting for her forever family. The shelter staff adore Queenie. She is such a wonderful girl who has been overlooked for quite a while.Queenie can be a little timid at first, but once she meets you, she is a lovebug and a goofball! Her favorite toys are giant rope toys and hard chew bones. She loves to run in our fenced outdoor pens and enjoys a good walk with her favorite people. Queenie would do best in a home without other dogs or cats. She would do best with no young kids. For allergies, Queenie is on a fish-based sensitive skin and stomach diet. She also receives Apoquel daily. Please help us get Queenie out of the shelter!

Marlo

American Pit Bull Terrier St. Bernard

Female, 3 yrs 4 mos
Shorewood, IL
Size
(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
Details
Not good with cats, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Marlo is 3 years old and guessed to be a Saint Bernard/ Pit mix. This beautiful girl has been at WCHS for over 2 years. She's all muscle (weighing in around 80lbs) and goofy, loving eyes. While some might find her looks to be intimidating, this girl could not be sweeter. The shelter staff adore this girl and she gives just as much love in return. Not only is Marlo loving, she is very energetic and active. She loves walks and does great with her harness. She is a big fan of our fenced outdoor pens where she can run and play with toys. Speaking of toys, Marlo LOVES balls: tennis balls, basketball-sized balls, giant indestruct-a-balls. You name it, she's playing soccer with it. She does need some training with play time as she can get too excited when you go to grab the toy and will try to grab it at the same time as you. She will gently jump up onto you for love and to give kisses, too. Sometimes she'll even climb onto your lap to snuggle. Marlo needs an active and strong leader who can help her be her best! She is looking for a home without cats or young kids. She is dog-selective, but dog meets are welcome. She seems to do best with more submissive, easy-going dogs. Are you looking for an active dog with lots of love to give? Marlo would love to come home with you!
