Story
Meet Bruce, the charming tan dog with a heart of gold! With his striking good looks and warm, gentle demeanor, Bruce has a way of capturing the hearts of everyone he meets. This sweet pup loves nothing more than to lean into you, offering his comforting presence and endless affection. Whether he's snuggling on the couch or basking in the sun, Bruce brings joy and warmth to every moment. His playful spirit is matched only by his kindness, making him a beloved companion and a true friend. Get ready for lots of tail wags and heart-melting moments with this handsome boy by your side! When I arrived at Anderson Animal Shelter from their partner shelter in Oklahoma, I tested positive for Heartworm. The staff believes that the best place for heartworm-positive dogs like me to be while going through treatments and recovering is with a loving and forever family like yours. If you choose to adopt me, the clinic staff will be with you every step of the way, answering questions and offering support. The process from detection to the final treatment is generally three months and involves some simple at-home steps to keep me safe while I recover. The last step in the process is a follow-up test six months after my treatment begins. The Heartworm treatment process is highly successful and the staff anticipates that I will fully recover! Yeah! You should know that heartworms can only be transmitted from animal to animal by mosquitoes. Stop in and meet my cute self in person during our adoption hours. For more information, email info@ahconnects.org or call us at 847-697-2880 x: 0, and the staff will be happy to help you. Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (6 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Story
Hi, I'm Billie. Thanks for taking a look at me! I know my cute face is irresistible, but remember that I will take up lots of your time and attention while I grow into an awesome adult dog. Socialization, training (including house training), and exercise are just a few of the things I will look to you for. Chewing, teething, and learning what is Okay and not Okay to put in my mouth are all part of the puppy experience. And, be prepared for the time and money for frequent trips to the vet during the first few months so I can get up to date on my boosters and vaccines. But most of all, be prepared for all of the LOVE, puppy kisses, and joy I will bring into your life. If you are up for the challenge and the fun, stop in and meet my cute self in person during our adoption hours. Meet Nemo! Nemo is a sweet and energetic boy ready to find his forever home! With a heart full of love and a playful spirit, he thrives in a family environment and gets along wonderfully with kiddos and other dogs. However, due to his spunk and lack of knowing his own strength, he may be too much for homes with cats and would need a super slow introduction for future cat siblings to have the best success! This charming pup is already potty trained, making him a great addition to any household. Nemo has a passion for stuffed toys and absolutely loves his chicken treats! After a day of play, he enjoys snuggling up on his cozy dog bed, soaking up all the love and attention he can get. If you're looking for a loyal companion who brings joy and energy to your life, Nemo is the perfect match. Come meet him and see just how sweet and loving he truly is! Story
Meet our sweet girl Dallas, Dallas was found dumped on the side of her road with her littermates. Her mom was dumped with her but sadly had been hit by a car and did not make it so the litter was left to fend for themselves. Luckily a good Samaritan found them, but they ended up in a shelter. No place for these puppies so rescue was found for them. At first, she was so scared of people, but she loves kisses and pets from her foster family. She will sit for a treat and is down for lots of belly rubs. She's doing great with house training. She knows and responds to 'crate-up'. She is pad trained and will go to the door to go outside. She loves to play with toys and dog chews.... she is intelligent, loyal, eager to please, loves her people, and easy to train. She'll make quick friends with anyone who’ll give her a belly rub. So, if you’re looking for a furry companion who will love you unconditionally and keep you on your toes, Dallas might be the one for you. Dallas would do great in a home with another dog to help her feel secure and someone she can play with. Older children would be okay, but we would prefer a home with no young children as everyone in the home needs to understand boundaries with puppies. We hope you'll give her a chance. Applications are being accepted. #toadvocate #toeducate #tosave

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. **If you are interested in being considered for this dog, please be sure to complete an application directly on our website - not through a 3rd party service.* Meet 2-year-old Banjo Blue,  an approximately 90 lb, American Pitbull Terrier.   Banjo Blue was brought into rescue when he was still a young pup in 2022. He was found very thin and needing help to thrive. One of our rescue partners took him in and nursed him back to health. He is a gentle giant that seeks love and affection. Banjo Blue does well with other dogs and loves kids, although he still thinks their lap is bigger than him. Banjo Blue is housebroken, crate trained, does well on a leash, and knows basic commands. He is very treat motivated and willing to learn. He also loves to spend evenings on the couch, watching tv!   Banjo would love a yard to play in, go for walks, car rides, and camping. Due to his larger size and exercise needs apartments/ condos are not best for this boy.  Banjo would be a great dog for a first-time owner or a family that's open to teach him new things and show him a life of love and adventure. Banjo Blue’s adoption fee is $350.00 (Includes microchip and age appropriate vaccines) *HWMAR presents the information in these bios based on our foster observations and any information presented to us regarding prior living conditions, breed specifications. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. **If you are interested in being considered for this dog, please be sure to complete an application directly on our website - not through a 3rd party service.* Meet Zelena! This approximately 11 month old, 36 lb,  pit terrier mix is a bundle of love in a small adorable package. Our new addition is crate trained, housebroken  and working hard with her foster family on learning house rules and which house items are not toys. We do not think she ever lived in a home before, but she is learning very quickly!  She listens really well to commands and walks well on the leash. She is friendly with everyone and wants to do nothing but show you how much love she has to give. She has been great  with kids, and has shown to be very gentle with them.   She visits with the neighbor dogs through the fence in her foster home (Big old labs and another mix just like her).  She is doing well with manners when her people are eating and will listen and go lay down while you eat..it will just take a couple reminders first. New rooms and corners are scary the first time but she does conquer them when you get down to her level and call her over. Zelena is ready for her forever family now!   Zelena’s adoption fee is $400 and includes her completed wellness visit, microchip and age appropriate vaccinations.   *HWMAR presents the information in these bios based on our foster observations and any information presented to us regarding prior living conditions, breed specifications. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. **If you are interested in being considered for this dog, please be sure to complete an application directly on our website - not through a 3rd party service.*    Fragile Package – Handle with Care.  Venus came to HWMAR in October. She was extremely nervous, scared and unsure about all the new surroundings she encountered. However, she was overwhelmed with excitement when she was reunited with former mate Chunk. (Who we believe to be Venus’s mom and who is fostered in the same home) They are extremely bonded and have so many similarities in looks and personality. It has taken Venus weeks to come out of her shell and bond with her foster parents and their pack of four adult dogs. Her foster parents, who have been fostering for more than 10 years, sought out help from the rescue’s trainer on how to better acclimate Venus into the family and pack. After two months of setting boundaries, teaching her commands, taking her on pack walks and giving her time to decompress, Venus is now showing them her true sweet personality. She enjoys playing with Chunk, chasing her foster siblings in the yard, playing with toys and snuggling on the couch on her foster Dad’s lap. Since Venus was not socialized well where she came from, she is very intimidated by new people. She will sometimes growl, bark and back away. She is looking for a couple or single owner who has a quieter household that will invest in her training. Venus is extremely smart and needs to be mentally and physically challenged. She will not give instant love or attention. She needs time to adapt and trust slowly. And we promise in time, she will in return give the gift of unconditional love. She is a huge wiggle butt and gets super excited when it’s time for her walks or a car ride. At this time, we don’t recommend her going to a family with children as that energy can be too much for her. If you are looking for a bonded pair, then consider Venus and Chunk as the ultimate super-sized gift! We are looking for that special person to give her a chance like her foster parents have at being the best dog she can be.   Venus Breed – Pitbull Mix Age – 2.5 Weight – 50 lbs Crate Trained – Yes Housebroken – Yes Good with other dogs – with slow introduction Good with cats – Unknown Fence Required – No Apt. or Townhome - Yes   Venus’s adoption fee is $350 and includes her completed wellness visit, microchip and age appropriate vaccinations.     *HWMAR presents the information in these bios based on our foster observations and any information presented to us regarding prior living conditions, breed specifications. Story
Hello, citizens! I'm Batman, your new favorite furry superhero ready to join your family and save the day with love, cuddles, and endless playtime! Let me tell you a bit about myself - I'm a Year-old boxer mix with a heart of gold and a belly that's just begging for rubs. I absolutely adore cuddling on the couch with my favorite humans, and I'm not shy about showing my affection with lots of kisses. Plus, I'm a connoisseur of comfortable blankets - there's nothing better than snuggling up with a cozy blanket after a long day of crime-fighting (or playing fetch)! When it comes to entertainment, I'm a big fan of chewing on dog bones and watching TV - especially if there are other animals on the screen. Speaking of animals, I'm very friendly with people and playful with other animals, including dogs and cats. Most pets I've met have felt indifferent toward me, but I think it's just because of my high energy and excitement about meeting new friends. I'd be great with any cat or dog that wants to play and be friendly with me! Now, let's talk about a couple of things I'm still getting used to - car rides and leash walking. I used to be nervous about car rides, but now that I travel in my crate, I'm starting to calm down. And as for leash walking, well, let's just say I'm a bit of a puller, but I'm getting better with practice - especially with the help of a harness. I've learned some basic cues like "sit," and I'm crate-trained for bedtime and naps. Sometimes I'll cry to be let out if I need to go to the bathroom, but I'm mostly house-trained with only a few accidents.. I enjoy all kinds of treats, especially apples, peanut butter, and anything squeaky! Plus, I'm cool with all kinds of touch - you can pick me up like a baby. So, what do you say? Are you ready to welcome me into your home and be my partner in crime (fighting boredom and loneliness, that is)? For more information, email info@ahconnects.org or call us at 847-697-2880 x: 0, and the staff will be happy to help you. Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (7 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Their adoption also includes a free-vet exam at one of our participating veterinarians. Ask fosters@ahconnects.org about fostering Batman, while he waits for his forever home!
