Story
Capone, affectionately known as “Cappy,” is a 4-year-old, beautiful brindle boy with a story that tugs at the heartstrings. For over 1,175 days, he has waited in shelter and foster care, longing for a family to call his own. He spent 18 months at Winnebago County Animal Control and has now been with Second City Canine Rescue for 638 days—one of the longest foster stays in SCCR history.Cappy was once adopted, but through no fault of his own, he was returned due to the adopters’ unforeseen circumstances. Despite this setback, he remained a shining light at the shelter, where he helped staff evaluate other animals, showcasing his gentle spirit and intelligence. In his foster home, Cappy has proven just how special he is. He’s mastered commands like “sit,” “fetch,” “touch,” “down,” and “paw,” and he delights in giving kisses to everyone he meets. He has a soft spot for children, and he is one of the best cuddlers around. While he isn’t overly energetic and doesn’t require daily walks, he dreams of a home with a fenced yard where he can play fetch to his heart`s content.Cappy is incredibly treat-motivated, making him an eager learner for any additional training you wish to pursue. He’s fully house-trained and doesn’t need to be crated when his family is away—he just wants to be loved and included.Cappy deserves a family who will cherish him, spoil him, and provide him the love he has so desperately waited for. Every day that passes without a forever home feels like an eternity for this sweet boy. If you’re ready to open your heart and home, Cappy is ready to give you unconditional love in return. Will you be the family he’s been waiting so long for?Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Coal is a 4-year-old Pit Bull with the energy of burning charcoal, always fired up for play and adventure. He`s an avid frisbee enthusiast and carries his favorite red disc with him everywhere he goes. He loves going on long walks and playing fetch at the park, or getting a drink at the water fountain. When he`s not chasing frisbees or going for walks, Coal loves to relax in the sun. He`ll often be found sunbathing in the yard, soaking up the rays. While Coal loves to play and run, he also knows how to relax. He`s a gentle giant who loves to snuggle on the couch. He makes for a great heater when these fall days start to get chilly! He`s been great with other dogs, including the resident senior male pit mix and a young female basset hound. He`s especially fond of playing tug-of-war and chase with his foster sister. This handsome boy is eager to please and has mastered a variety of commands and tricks, including sit, down, heel, off, paw, place, settle, and speak, especially when there`s peanut butter involved. He`s also crate trained and enjoys his nightly wind-downs in his cozy crate.Coal is a people-pleaser, but his enthusiasm can sometimes get the best of him. We think he`d do best with older kids who can handle his playful energy. He`s looking for an active family who can provide him with plenty of exercise and love.Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Meet Chowder! And when you come, make sure to bring your clam-era to snap pics of this photogenic young guy! Chowder is house-trained, and still a pup so you’ll get to enjoy his amazing chewing powers with toys, paper, bones and even plastic! He also enjoys playing outside with his young pup friend. When inside, he is content to sleep in his crate, he does great in the car and walks have been going well too.Being young and a bit goofy, Chowder is still learning his manners and getting used to structure. It may seem a bit shocking, but he may bark at certain things like the vacuum, blender, hair dryer, doorbell, the sun or even you if you do not have his favorite food or snack ready when he is hungry! He knows a few commands and if the snack in your hand is tasty, he is smart and motivated to learn more.Having another pup to play with would be good for Chowder, but a family with small kids may not be ideal. Overall Chowder is a fun and amazing young guy with the potential to be a great companion. He is friendly, loves to be the center of attention and will relish the belly rubs and ear scratches you shower on him…if it includes a treat!Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Howdy! Adorable Andi here. I am a sweet little girl about 7 months old. As many young pups do I love both playtime and snuggles. Playing fetch with my favorite ball, finding sticks to chew or emptying the toy basket when in the house are all fun activities. When it`s time to rest I prefer to be as close to the human as possible though am fine in a crate if you think it`s necessary. When it comes to food, I have yet to meet a kind I don`t like. Practicing things like sit, down, touch is fun since treats are involved. I am working on walking nicely on a leash. I can get a little excited and noisy when I see doggies out on a walk. I would love a canine friend to play with though can be a little picky about my playmates. If you have a playful dog who is bigger than me we might be perfect together. If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate companion, I might just be the perfect match! I hope to meet you soon.Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Introducing Noir, a stunning 1-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix with a coat as black as a moonless night and deep, soulful brown eyes that echo the timeless glamour of classic black-and-white films. Named after the mysterious elegance of film noir, Noir carries herself with the poise and grace of a silver screen legend, captivating everyone she meets with her quiet charm and loyal heart. Noir is the picture of a perfect leading lady—house-trained and polite, she waits patiently by the door for her cue to step outside. She`s a quiet communicator, so her human co-star will need to be attentive to her subtle signals. While the confines of a crate don’t suit this sophisticated starlet, she shines in every other role, whether strolling gracefully on a leash (without so much as a pull) or charming her way into the hearts of children and fellow canine companions. Her thoughts on cats remain an unsolved mystery—perhaps her next chapter will reveal the answer. Noir’s love for toys is delightfully uncomplicated—whether it’s a squeaky toy, a ball, or a plush friend, she adores them all. But her greatest joy is simply being by your side. Like a true film noir heroine, she’ll stick close, offering warmth and unwavering loyalty through every twist and turn. If you’re ready to welcome a little old-Hollywood magic into your life, Noir is ready to steal the show—and your heart. Are you her perfect co-star? Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Chato found himself at Chicago Animal Control, abandoned by the family he had been loyal to his entire life. He was in very bad shape and appeared to be very old due to the neglect he suffered. His skin was terribly infected and hope of ever finding love and happiness had been extinguished from his eyes. We could not let this cute Pocket Pittie die without knowing the kindness of a human touch or that every day does not need to be filled with fear and mistreatment. Once pulled from Animal Control, Chato knew instantly that he was safe and life would be better….and it sure was!! Chato’s medical needs were immediately addressed, his skin issues were resolved, and his spirit slowly returned. Today, Chato is a silly little pup, recovered from his past, and looking to continue to live the happy healthy life he so deserves…..with a family of his own. Chato is just 4-5 years old, and weighs about 35lbs…..tiny for a Pitbull! He is very playful and spirited, and loves being with people. He enjoys cuddling and definitely being petted too! He takes treats gently, and sits nicely for them. He is housebroken and is eager to please! Chato is sure to make a wonderful addition to any family worthy of him!! Chato walks nicely on a leash; he does not react when he sees other dogs out and about. However, Chato does need to be an only dog; he’s not fond of sharing his home with other four-legged creatures…dogs or cats!! An ideal home for Chato is with a family with significant Pitbull experience, but having no other dogs currently ; Chato absolutely deserves to receive all the attention for himself. He’d love a fenced yard and deserves a family willing to spend time with him and include him in all family activities. Chato may enjoy the company of older children but younger children may be too much for him. Chato is fully vetted, up-to-date on all vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, and heartworm negative/on year-round heartworm prevention. A solid, verifiable vet history for all past pets is required for all adopters of BAARK Dogs. If you are interested in adding Chato to your family, please email BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or call 847-852-0895 for an adoption application.

Story
Our sweet Sasha girl was rescued from life on a heavy chain hooked to a trash can that was her ONLY shelter. She was abused and almost bred to death. When Tails took her and her babies in she was barely hanging on, she was a skeleton and was so weak she could barely lift her head. After several medications, fluids and a miracle she made a full turn around and she has thanked us daily for rescuing her. Love just radiates from her eyes and she is SO gentle with people. She is very well mannered, leash and crate trained. She potty’s outside if shes on a schedule. Sasha would thrive in a calm home with children over the age of 12 as loud rambunctious kids may trigger her. If you’re interested in adopting OR fostering Sasha please find us on FB or our website at tailsoftheforgottenpaws.org and fill out an application!

Story
Bear is a very handsome, young boy looking for a forever home of his own. We believe he is a Boxer mix, sporting a very attractive dark brindle coat. We estimate Bear’s date of birth at February 10, 2021. At the time of this posting he is just under two years old. He is about 60 lbs. Bear loves people and he also loves eating almost anything. He is not so much a chewer, as a dog who likes to eat rocks, sticks, toys. As such, his new family will need to be vigilant to ensure Bear does not get himself into trouble, ingesting non-food items! Bear is active and energetic, typical of a big, young dog, and sometimes can get carried away with his play. He loves running in the secure, fenced yard of his foster home. He keeps himself entertained (but, watch out for him eating rocks, sticks, etc!!); he would not do well in a dog park or day care. We suggest he be an only dog. Given his size and energy level, Bear would not be an ideal canine companion for younger children. We expect children over the age of 12 would be ok. And of course, an all-adult home would be perfect for Bear! An ideal home for Bear is one in which he can thrive as an only dog, with a family experienced with larger dogs who sometimes can get out of hand. The family will also need to be vigilant when it comes to Bear’s tendency to seek out interesting things to eat. As is the case with all young, larger dogs, Bear would greatly benefit from obedience training which can also be a bonding experience with his new family. No doubt, Bear has the potential to evolve into the perfect pup, but is looking for that family willing to commit to him and provide him the forever home he deserves. Bear is fully vetted, up to date on all vaccinations, neutered & microchipped and on year-round heartworm prevention. To learn how you can add this handsome young boy to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895.
