Story
If you want the easiest dog on the planet, Gary is your man. Gary isn’t fresh out of fucks. Gary never had any fucks to give in the first place. Gary has never given one single fuck. Gary was born with a fuck inventory of precisely zero. He is so low maintenance and doesn’t take the little things for granted. Give him a comfy bed/blanket, regular meals, trees to poop on and maybe a few bones/toys to destroy and he is happy as a clam. Bonus points for a head scratch every now and then. He has a sneeze that makes him sound like a cartoon character. He never barks, unless you try to give him eye drops one too many times. He may or may not be able to hear, so you might have to physically drag a blanket he’s laying on for a couple feet before he wakes up. He walks in slow motion until he decides to turn the turbo jets on for a few feet before it’s back to moving at a glacial pace. He doesn’t require much exercise. A few trips around the block per day will suffice. Sometimes, he just wants to go out and do his business and then go right back inside, especially first thing in the morning when he is PUMPED to eat breakfast. Gary lives in busy Wicker Park and does just fine in that environment. Gary likes to poop ON trees. Not near them, on them. He is very independent and will often resort to his crate for a deep sleep, even if the rest of the family is in another room. He likes to say hi to other dogs, but gets a little too excited and has been known to attempt to hump them like the creepy old man that he is, so he’ll need to work on finding some chill. Gary could thrive in any home because he doesn’t give a shit about anything. That said, a home with older kids who understand that he can’t see or hear super well, which means he can startle easy at times, would be best. While he might take a minute to fully trust you/give a shit about you, there’s nothing better than when he sits by you and just stares at you with his crusty eyes while wagging his tail or when he chooses your foot to lay on when there are so many other perfectly comfortable options available. Speaking of which, he requires eye medication, but really doesn’t like when it’s applied and will let you know, so an adopter who is comfortable with that would be a plus. Story
Pocket pittie alert! Gadget is available for adoption! Gadget knows basic cues, and a couple extras (touch and paw). He’s not great at ‘drop it’ with a tennis ball, unless you have another one. He goes bonkers over toys, and is a pro at destroying them in seconds. He’s great on a leash, unless he sees a squirrel, then it’s every man (and dog) for themselves. Gadget loves people. He has no stranger danger whatsoever. He can get overstimulated and jump at faces, but in the nicest way possible. He just wants to give you a kiss, that might also break your nose. I imagine this is also what it’s like to kiss an MMA fighter. But Gadget is way cuter. Because he loves people so much, I bet you’re thinking you should take him everywhere with you? Don’t. Have you heard the lambs screaming, Clarice? Gadget will ruin your day while simultaneously charming everyone in the room. Because, his face. Gadget is crate trained, but can be trusted being left out in a bedroom/extra room. He would love to share a bed with you at night, he makes a perfect donut and doesn’t move an inch, but his snoring can wake the dead, or dead inside (my husband). Gadget is fully potty trained. He can hold it for a full work day (8+ hours) with no issues. He’s medium/high energy when he’s been cooped up. Two-ball fetch for 10-15 minutes once or twice a day is great for him, or a long walk. He’ll pass out, or self entertain, if he gets a chance to run out his energy. Name: Inspector Gadget Age: 3-4 years Gender: Male Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier – we did his DNA test, and he’s as pure as they come. Weight: 40lbs Crate Trained: Yes, but can be trusted left out in a room. Potty Trained: Yes. Fully. Absolutely no accidents and no marking. Dog Friendly: Would do best as an only dog. Cat Friendly: No Kid Friendly: Older Vaccinated: Yes Neutered: Yes Heartworm: Negative Microchipped: Yes Energy level: Medium Inspector Gadget is currently being fostered in Itasca, Illinois. No out of state applicants, please. If you’d like to meet him, the first step is to fill out an application: https://darkhorsedogs.org/adoption-application

Dog Name:  Raven Age: 3ish Gender: Female Breed: Low riding pittie Weight: 60 pounds Crate trained: Yes Potty trained: 90% Dog friendly: Yes, with slow intro Cat friendly: No Kid friendly: Older kids (she’s a rough and tumble gal) Vaccinated: Yes Spayed/Neutered: Yes Heartworm: Negative  Microchipped: Yes Energy level: Medium-high Hello, meet Raven. She has all the love and potential to be your forever houseguest. Worried about the rising cost of inflation? Raven will lower your water bill by eliminating the need for showers as she will bathe you in kisses. Raven also eliminates the need for your heat to be on as she herself is a heated, weighted, snuggling blanket. We have can now send our dog to college by the amount of money we’ve saved in utilities by fostering Raven.   All jokes aside…   Once Raven discovered love, she decided she couldn’t get enough of it. If you want a low riding- pitbull who snuggles you with her whole body and melts into you when you touch her, this is your gal.   When she gets the zoomies you better move your coffee tables out of the way! She’s a playful girl who lacks spacial awareness.   Raven has won over my grumpy, senior pitbull. With time, she learned exactly how he wanted to play and she fell into a submissive role. He even taught her how to make little gremlin noises when she plays.   Raven is very silly when it comes to food. She is selective on her treats (first dog I’ve met that doesn’t like hot dogs) but she will scrunch her face and shake her head to say “no thank you”. When she finds a treat she likes, she will do pretty much anything you want for it. She so far has mastered “sit”, “down” and “stay” and is working on “place”. Her recall is pretty good too!   Raven is a gem in her crate. She’ll go in with a treat and stay in there quietly until you let her out. She sleeps in her crate throughout the whole night and is happy to sleep in as late as (you) want to.   Raven would thrive in a house that has the love for life and energy that she has. She needs a good walk or run each day, someone to tug or throw a ball to her, and give her lots of love. She has shown to be good with another large dog (with a slower intro) and is perfectly content with the city life.  She is not a barker. She is proving to be a good work from home buddy and can self-entertain or nap. Raven would be an amazing addition to anyone lucky enough to adopt her and love her forever! If you’re interested in meeting Raven, please fill out an application at the link below. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DHDN/Dog

This is blowing our deranged little minds, because Leo is a good boy that’s both dog and people friendly! And look at his little speckled cow ears! What the fuck! Leo is a playful guy but also loves to snuggle. He’s a friend to all humans and lives with another large bully breed in his foster home. He would benefit from a family that will provide him with structure and training. If given the opportunity to make all of his own decisions, he’s going to make bad ones. Same, Leo, same. We’re all on the same page here: bad decisions are fun as hell. Story
Introducing WILLOW, a wonderful 6 1/2 year old, 70 pound Pit Bull Terrier mix who is calm and quiet, and doesn't like a lot of commotion. She is a gentle, sweet girl who will make a great addition to most adult households. Willow's favorite time of day is when she gets to go for a long walk on the nature trail with her foster dad; she really enjoys spending that time outside, smelling the air, and watching the wildlife. In addition, Willow enjoys simply being with her person whether he's on the floor meditating or hanging out watching TV with Willow laying next to him and snuggling. Willow has good house manners and does not require crating when her foster dad leaves the house. Willow would enjoy a fenced-in yard too; she previously lived with a German Shepherd for most of her life so we think she would be OK living with another similar sized dog who is calm and easy-going. Willow is initially timid meeting new people, but once she gets to know you, she is very loyal and loving. She is approved for households with adults and children over 12 years of age. This dog has been examined by licensed veterinarians, provided inoculations, been wormed, tested for diseases, spayed, and microchipped. IF INTERESTED IN ADOPTING, please request an application by sending an email to us at acaringplace@comcast.net Unfortunately, our online application is not working properly so please do not use. We'll send a pdf to you via email for your completion. A Caring Place - All Breed Dog Rescue adopts throughout the Greater Chicagoland Area. All dogs and puppies live in foster homes, providing you as the adopter, with information on the animal's behaviors, needs, and requirements. We are always in search of fosters care providers. If you are one of those special people willing to open your heart and home to an animal in need and would like to receive information on how you can foster an animal, please contact us.     November 3, 2024, 3:29 pm

Story
This cutie is Dixie, a 6 year old, 50 pound Pit Bull mix who is short in stature, and as sweet as pie with a little bit of spunk thrown in. Dixie loves giving kisses, really enjoys going for walks, playing with toys, and exploring and relaxing in the fenced in yard. Dixie warms up quickly to women and older children. When excited, she’ll get the zoomies and make the cutest noises. Dixie has been playful with most of the dogs in her foster home; she would be OK as the “one and only” dog in the home. She has good house manners and does not need to be crated when left alone.  Dixie came to our rescue after a neglectful owner kept her in the basement as a “breeding machine” for years. Despite that horrible existence, it did not affect her from being one of the sweetest little dogs. She will make a great addition to most households and is approved for households with children over the age of 10.  This dog has been examined by a licensed veterinarian, provided inoculations, been tested for disease, had a blood panel run (healthy), been dewormed, spayed, and microchipped. Story
TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME! This handsome boy is Ralph, a 73 pound, 4 year old Pit Bull Terrier/Labrador Retriever/Boxer/Staffordshire Terrier mix (DNA results). Ralph is absolutely stunning and is a very loyal dog. He listens well, knows quite a few commands, and is completely housebroken. Ralph was recently an attendee at a local baseball game and did great with everyone he met, remaining calm and relaxed. He is such a great dog! Ralph loves to romp around outside, take treks through the woods exploring, and playing with his foster fur mates. He absolutely loves people and kids and is content to lay with them as the kids read a book to him. Ralph is the king of his castle so he'd be best as the only dog in the home, but he LOVES to have play dates with other doggie friends. Ralph would make a wonderful companion for someone who likes to run and or hike, and is home more often than not. He is just an all-around great dog. Ralph has been examined by our veterinarians, provided inoculations, been tested for diseases and worms, been neutered, and microchipped. Smokey is a friendly active playful dog. He has so much energy and enjoys running. Unfortunately I have 2 other dogs whom he loves to play with but unfortunately he started having minor behavioral issues. He wants a and needs a lot of attention I have small baby of 8 months and can't have him around her because he does not acknowledge and knows when he needs to control his hyper activeness. He has never bit anyone but he continues to jump my neighbors 4ft fence. I just need someone to give him the attention he needs. I don't want to take him to shelter he still has no much life in him and looking for someone to give him his forever home

Name: Chickaletta Age: 2/3 years Gender: Female Breed: Bulldog mix Weight: 53lbs Crate trained: Yes Potty trained: Yes Dog friendly: No Cat friendly: No Kid friendly: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Spayed/Neutered: Yes Heartworm: Negative Microchipped: Yes Energy level: Low Location: Palatine, IL. Most suitable lifestyle: Suburbs with a fenced yard. Chickaletta is an incredibly sweet dog that may just be too sweet. She’s a great dog but is very needy. Her cuddling style is more like crawling into your skin and trying to wear you like a coat. She lacks confidence and is constantly looking for reassurance and approval. We have her listed as needing a fenced yard, because she is reactive on leash and she does not enjoy the company of other dogs. She wants to be your one and only. She’s totally potty trained and great in the crate. She doesn’t actually need a crate though as she is not destructive when left out. She’s great with kids and isn’t mouthy or in appropriate at all. She’s just very needy. She would do great as a single dog with someone who is retired or lives alone and wants a constant companion. She’s low energy and doesn’t need a bunch of exercise. A backyard where she can go potty and come back is perfect for her. If you're interested in meeting Chickaletta, please fill out an application at the link below. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DHDN/Dog

Dog Name: Angus Age: 2 Weight: 40lbs Gender: Male Breed: Bulldog Mix Crate Trained: Not a fan Potty Trained: In progress Dog Friendly: Yes Cat Friendly: Unknown Kid Friendly: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Neutered: Yes Microchipped: Yes Energy level: Moderate to High   When we saw Angus at CACC, he was one of the quiet pups in the middle of all the barking and chaos. He looked at us with sweet, puppy dog eyes and asked us to take him home so he could feel better. He came to us with kennel cough and recovered in less than a week. He is the most gentle boy, always ready to carefully jump up to give you kisses and get some head scratches. He loves playing with his brothers but is also perfectly fine on his own. He is always ready to cuddle and give lots of kisses.   Angus needs regular walks to prevent accidents in the house. He does not leash-pull, and he walks well with other pups. We are fascinated by him, as he seems to be some kind of mutant with a shrunken head. He has the brown and striped body of a hyena, the head of a bulldog puppy, and the legs of a Great Dane. Therefore, his head is too small and legs are too long for his body, his paws are too small for his legs, and his eyes are too big for his head, but we love him.   Angus will make any home a happy one. All he wants to do is be close to his owners and give them love. He will be great with other dogs or kids. When he moves on, I will miss his gentle jumps and snuggles.
