Story
Hi there, my name is Vanessa and I'm about 1 1/2 years old. I'm a really pretty young girl. If you have seen my pictures my coat is a reversed brindle. I had DNA test, and it summed up I am a Pittie but mixture of many other dog breeds. What does that mean? I'm your All-American Mutt but I'm a smart All-American Mutt. I weigh 55#s. It's been almost a year since I've been in my foster home, and I've seen so many of my foster friends come in and find their forever families. In some ways, I am happy for them. They get those magic words "forever home" and I wonder when it's going to be my turn. When I lay on the couch with my foster Mom, she tells me "Vanessa, there is a family out there for you - you just wait." I look at her adoringly and I believe her. I trust my foster Mom so much. She's taught me so much in my year with her. She taught me how to SIT, COME, WAIT, walk on leash and no jump. The last one is work in progress. I've met so many new people and new dogs that my circle of friends gets bigger and bigger. She calls it socialization and manners. She tells new people I have to learn manners where I don't bark or jump when I meet new people. I get so excited when I meet new people, but I do calm down. It takes me about 2 minutes to calm down. You scratch my butt I'll be your BF in no time. When all my foster friends were finding their forever homes my foster Mom said V (that's her nickname for me) we need to expand your social circle - let's go to doggie daycare. Can you believe a rescue dog like me went from being a stray, living in a ditch to being the life of the party at doggie daycare? Well, believe it because that's me! I love when I go to doggie daycare. The staff knows when I come - butt scratches! I get to play all day with about 10 new friends and when I come home, I snore all night. In my foster home there are small and other dogs my size and I'm good with all of them. There was once a little dog that was so crabby that I was actually scared of him. I stayed away but I eventually made friends with him. Even with his crabbiness he got a home, so I know with my cheerful demeanor there is a home for me. There's also cats here in my foster home. Some are the resident cats and some are foster cats. Pitties are known to not be the greatest with cats and I can attest to that. I am not mean to them at all, but I will chase them. The cats here are all dog savvy. In the one year I have lived in the same home with numerous cats and dogs I can say I can live with other cats. It's the Human that has to make it work. Know what my foster Mom's trick is? Baby gates and teaching me "Vanessa, off." At nighttime I sleep in my crate. If there are no cats in the home I won't need one. I don't get into anything. I'm past the chewing stage. I do like sleeping on the couch, but I also like my crate. I know the command "go kennel" and I give you a bark (btw my bark is loud) when I got to do my business. There is also a bell by the door that I hit with my nose to tell you I gotta go out. So, about my barking? I have to tell you a story. One day, there was a bad storm, the nice neighbors tree fell down. All the electrical wires came out and there was all these booming noises and popping sounds. (transformers). Nobody got hurt but ComEd was in our backyard in the middle of the night. I did not like that! I had to tell my foster Mom, and I barked & barked. I woke her up to alert her to the booming/popping noise and this strange person in her yard. I might not make a good watch dog (I'd give too many kisses), but I did a great job in alerting my people who I love so much. I hope one day I have a family of my own. I hope maybe they will have another dog I can play with and maybe teach me manners so I can master the NO JUMP. I would love to continue with my new family on my daily walks and I would be so lucky if my new home has a fenced yard, and I have a young boy/girl that can play ball or frisbee with me. I do that now. I chase it but I get distracted & don't bring it back. I'll learn one day because I'm so smart. I know there are so many Pitties like me needing homes, and we all are so special. We just need the chance for someone to read our profiles - so I thank you for reading my profile. I hope I get the chance to meet you so I can win you over and you can fall in love with me. Story
We rescued Petey in Sept. 2021 from a shelter located in Arkansas. Petey is approximately 5.5 years old. He is such a great boy who will make a family very happy. Petey is a lover and a cuddler. He will become your best friend and shadow. Petey currently does live with an older cat and they get along fine. We worked with a trainer in early 2022 who determined Petey is socially great with adults but not with kids. Petey tends to get very anxious and nervous when around children. We have also had an incident with Petey and a child which is the unfortunate reason we have come to this devastating decision to have to rehome Petey. We love Petey very much but with planning to have more children, it's too much of a risk to keep Petey. This is a very hard decision for us and we are determined to make sure we find the right home for Petey because he deserves it. Petey would be great in a home with just adults, no children. Petey is such a great boy who deserves a loving home.

Story
Hi my name is Loki! I am a 1 year old big boy at 60 lbs. but don't let my size fool you because I'm the biggest cuddle bug! I was dumped at a police station! Thank goodness a nice police officer took me home and got me into a foster home because I hear animal control can be a scary place for a pup like me. I have been staying with my girls at Ruffner's until I find my forever home. I thought I found my forever home once but that only lasted 3 weeks. Even though the girls at Ruffner's told them I have a lot of separation anxiety from being dumped and moving homes, they still put me in a crate for 8+ hours a day. It made my separation anxiety even worse and they returned me. Before I was adopted I was also doing great playing in groups of dogs but after I was returned I was nervous with dogs. My girls at Ruffner's aren't really sure what happened during those 3 weeks I was gone but it definitely wasn't good. I would do best in a home were someone can be home with me until I feel safe enough to be left on my own. I'm very smart and food motivated and I love going on walks! I love to chew on bones and play fetch. I need a fenced yard or at least someone who is a runner and can make sure I get lots of exercise. I really don't like cats. With proper introduction I would be okay with other dogs around my size. I'm up to date on all my vaccinations, microchipped, neutered and heartworm negative. If you are interested in me, contact Hannah or Jenn at ruffners1880@gmail.com. The adoption fee is $225 Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming

Story
Mama is my name but snuggling is my game. I'm not sure how I got into this situation, but I promise you that it wasn't because I didn't love my family. I am deceivingly very chill and friendly with people and other dogs. I cannot say the same for cats. I am housetrained when I am attended to be let out on time. Since I am an older gal, I don't have as much holding time as I once used to. As you can see, I have some lumps and bumps that come with the natural aging process and I have been cleared from having any cancerous lumps. I enjoy napping on the couch inside or out and I can even go for a short walk. I love treat time and I am very ladylike when I take my treats from your hand. My foster parents say that I am a super duper wonderful dog and I would make any new family feel the same. I am hoping to find a forever home that will love me for the rest of my days. I still have lots of spunk in this old body and I'm not done living just yet. Maybe we can help each other out, I can help keep you company and you can help keep me safe. I am ready to go and up to date on all my vaccines and have been spayed. Please say yes to this old gal. For more info and to meet this gorgeous gal, call Teri at 630-897-7454 The adoption fee is $150. Story
This boy was surrendered due to the wife not wanting him around a newborn. Bob did nothing wrong and is a well behaved boy. He does need time to get used to new people but warms up pretty quickly. He gets along with other dogs and likes to play. He loves tennis balls and loves to chase them... he can fit 2 in his mouth at a time. He does well on a leash and is house broken. He does like children but will need time to adjust to their energy. He can get a little protective over what he considers "his" but is not a mean protector.... more bark than bite. Some added people socialization would probably help him. He is a good boy who was given a raw deal by his supposed family so he;s now looking for a new chance. He is located in Tennessee but can be transported through Rescue Riders.

Story
This gal is such a sweetheart! If you are looking for a sweet, fun, happy dog, Ariel is your girl! Ariel is still young, we’re guessing just around 1, maybe just under. She is very smart and eager to please, and already showing off her skills with sit, and sitting and waiting for her food! She’s pretty food motivated, which makes her that much easier to train. She has the most adorable big ears that hear everything! She was brought to local animal control facility after being found tied to a pole in an alley, and was really stressed in the kennel environment. Find A Home Pet Rescue broke her out, and she is now settling nicely into a foster home while she waits for her forever people to find her. She loves to play, and really loves the company of other dogs. Ariel is fully vetted and ready to mingle! She’s been spayed, microchipped, tested for heart worm (negative), and updated on vaccines. Ariel is located in the Darien/Downers Grove area. If you’d like to give this beautiful girl her forever home please reach out to yurko.mar0903@gmail.com for a pre-adoption application.

Story
Hello! My name is Meatball, and I am about 3 years old. When I was found as a stray nobody knew my name nor where I came from. I was definitely someone's dog but sadly, they didn't take good care of me nor come looking for me. Treasured Animal Rescue saw my adorable picture of my underbite and gave me that Freedom Ride. I was sad in the shelter but when my Rescuers came for me, and I got that Freedom Ride from the shelter I knew my future was going to be so much brighter! The day I met my foster family I felt so safe. They welcomed me into their home and let me settle in. Of course, my first course of action was finding my spot on the couch. I guess that's how I got the title "couch potato". But one day I was outside with my foster Daddy and he had a ball. This ball was round and plump just like me and I felt like I was in heaven. I had so much fun playing with my ball. You would think every dog has their happy moments with playing with something so simple like a ball but deep down in my past I don't think I ever got to play. Maybe I was used for making puppies and playtime was not heard of. Maybe the puppies I made for my old owners over & over again was all I knew so when I received affection from my foster family I soaked it up like a sponge. All that affection I got from my foster family I paid them back by making them laugh. When I am happy my back end does some wiggling. Well, my back end is not little so there's lots of wiggling! That made my foster family laugh. My name fits me because I'm shaped like a meatball; round and plump. When I get happy my little back end just wiggles & wiggles. I get happy when my foster family comes home from work/school and we get to play ball. I love playing with my ball and the bigger the ball the better. After our play time we snuggle on the couch. I might catch another doggie nap and you can guess it, I snore. I'm housetrained but I have a little tinkle here or there when I get excited. I like to go for walks but my breeding I have to go on short walks especially on hot days. I actually prefer to be on a couch inside with air conditioning. Who doesn't? I'm more of a couch potato watching TV. My foster family leaves a TV on for me when they go to work. Bluey is my favorite show. I like going for car rides and being with people. I haven't been around small kids or cats. I've seen other dogs and get excited. Now that I've settled in with my foster family, I learned Humans can be nice and loving. I think in my past home I didn't have that loving environment. I love hanging out on the couch with my Humans and sometimes don't like to share. I'm the only dog in my foster home and I love all the attention. My foster family thinks I would do best being the only dog in my new home or a good Doggie Leader that can help me not be selfish in the attention department if there is another dog in the home. I'm now ready for my forever family. I know there is going to be a day when I have to leave my foster family, and everyone will be sad but that's why foster family's do what they do. They make the commitment to doggies like me to trust Humans and establish a bond. If we could have a crystal ball for my future I would like to have a family just like my foster family. A couch I can hang out on. Maybe I can be the only dog, so all the attention is on me. I haven't been around small kids and let's just say no kids. I don't think the excitement is for me. The only excitement I like is when my foster Daddy watches football and he's rooting for the Chicago Bears. I like to have a quiet, calm home so I can get used to my new home. And if things get too stressful for me maybe I have a special place I can go chill. In my foster home my family set up a doggie crate. At first, I wasn't too sure of it but I have a doggie bed that I get really comfy and start sleeping right away! You can probably hear my snoring already. They say rescue dogs are broken. We are not. Sadly, a Human does things to us or neglects us, but dogs live in the moment. My life took a big change when I saw my Rescuer looking through the shelter bars and said "she will be our Treasured Gem". They looked into my eyes and felt my soul. They guessed at my appearance of how I was treated and made a promise to make it better. My Rescuers and foster family kept that promise and its now time for my forever family to continue. It might not be easy for me adjusting in your home, but I promise you this: I will make you laugh with my snorting, snores and cute underbite. I hope when you come meet me, I can make you laugh and then of course you are going to fall in love with me. It all starts with you filling out an adoption application so we can start our friendship. Love, Meatball Meatballis located in our foster home in Romeoville. Story
“Alright, listen, I didn’t want to have to do this, but you leave me no choice. Here comes the smolder.” My name is Rider, as in Flynn Rider. No one can resist my smolder, so I plan to use that to find my new home. I am a 2 year old Boxer mix. Like Flynn Rider I am an orphan that had to do what I needed to survive. I am a bit rough around the edges, but with a bit of love I am working on that. I have had a bit of a rough start. I came into Rover Rescue with a knee injury. While waiting for surgery I ended up injuring my other knee. I have now under gone 2 surgeries to fix my knees. I am still recovering and have exercises I will need to do, plus activity restrictions for the next several months. Once I am all healed I should be good to go. And boy am I ready to go. I am going to need someone who is dog savvy. I can be very pig headed. I need someone who is going to remind what is right and wrong. But the good news is that I come with training classes to help. I have made great improvements during my time with Rover Rescue. It is recommended that I go to an adult only home. I am a medium energy dog. I do love to get out and go for walks. I do tend to pull on the leash, especially if I see something. Foster mom uses a gentle leader on me that works well. I can’t wait until I am healed and can explore more. I also love car rides so would make the perfect adventure buddy. I love running around the back yard when I don’t have these stupid leash restrictions. After I have been able to get out some of my energy I am happy snuggling and watching tv. I love to be on the couch, but right now foster mom says I have to lay on the floor because I can’t jump. Foster mom also recommends me earning my right to be invited up on the couch in my new home. I also love to play with my toys while my people are watching tv. Fetch and tug are my favorites! I get along with the two smaller dogs in the house, but can get crabby with other dogs when at adoption events. If there are other dogs in the house I will need slow introductions and would do best with a submissive friend. It would be best if I am in a house without cats or other small animals. I am crate trained and will go in for treats. I am not a fan of being left alone though so may sing you a song when you leave. I do quiet down eventually and do fine while foster mom is away. Right now I have to sleep downstairs and get very sad when the rest of my family is upstairs. Sometimes I sing my song at night or early in the morning. I would probably not be a good apartment dog. While Flynn Rider’s goal was to live on an island alone surrounded by enormous piles of money, mine is to find a person or people of my own. I am looking for someone to give me a chance that understands my quirks. Even though I need work foster mom thinks I will be an amazing friend when all is said and done. Let’s go chase some lanterns! If you would like to meet him, please call Annie at 815-685-0746. His adoption fee is $225. Story
Abel is a tall 2 year old boxer mix, with long soft ears. He has gotten along well with both of our other foster dogs and with a friend’s dog who we dog-sat over Thanksgiving weekend. However, he has started to bark at other dogs that we encounter on our daily walks. Other than that, he has pretty good leash manners, often walking with slack in the leash. He does stop to watch the squirrels and sometimes tries to climb up after them. Abel loves and wants to meet every human that he encounters. He cuddles on the couch with us, lays his head in our lap, and has us pet him all over. Sometimes he rolls over and raises both of his front paws sky-high to request a belly rub. Abel is crate trained and goes into his crate on command practically every night. Abel is housebroken, but has had about three urinary accidents while we’ve been learning his tells to go outside. He is altered and up to date on shots. If you would like to meet Abel, please call Teri at 630-897-7454. The adoption fee is $225.
