Story
5 YEARS OLD 75 POUNDS   5 Years old 75 lb ‌ He needs to be the only dog in your life as he is not fond of sharing his attention with any other animal. He wants his very own human all to himself. We do not recommend a home with kids. Dash came from a back yard breeder that surrendered him once he wasn’t bringing in the money for him anymore. It was very sad to see Dash in the shelter the first few days, as you could tell he was not handled by his previous owner except to be brought out to breed then be put back up. He would flinch anytime you would go to pet him or love on him, and he was even unsure of taking treats from anyone. He was shut down and confused. ‌ After a few weeks in the shelter he finally started to understand what attention felt like and what yummy treats we had, so he started coming around. He goes out on walks every day and loves to go to the play yard to explore.November 4, 2024, 1:50 pm

Story
I have been fostering Luna for the past few months. My friend moved out of state and could not bring her. I have known Luna since she was a puppy she is a really sweet girl. Ideally she should be in a home where she is able to run around outside daily. She loves to cuddle , chew on bones , and rip the fluff out of her toys. I have 4 other dogs she gets along well with. She would do best in a home with another dog ! She also is good with my cat. She would do better in a home with kids who are a little older if you do have kids. Younger kids make her really nervous. For any further questions feel free to reach out 603-273-2772

Story
Appeared in early September and is a very sweet girl. Loves to roam but loves to snuggle, too. Likes to bark. Not good at fetch! Very tolerant of small, goofy dogs. Shy with men. She loves to go on long walks through the woods, bounding joyfully after squirrels and deer she never seems to catch. We have the goofiest little Boston Terrier that loves to sniff and lick her while bouncing around, she is so patient with him! She loves sleeping on the couch and will steal your spot or maybe try to climb in your lap. Will come with leash, harness, collar, bed, and some food.

Story
Meet Woodrow We love Woodrow. This handsome boy is a gentle giant. He was surrendered to us after his original owner walked away, leaving him locked in an apartment. The apartment worker who found him tried keeping him, but the manager wouldn’t let him. As a result, “Woody” has been safe with us for nearly five years, but living at our shelter is no way to live. Woody is so loved by our staff and volunteers, but our greatest wish is to see him land softly with a person or family of his own. Woody is now 7.5 years old. He’s a gem that deserves so much more in life. Woody loves people. He lives for attention. When he sees his favorite people, his whole body wiggles and he can hardly contain his excitement. In addition to people, Woody lives for water – sprinklers, pools, lakes, hoses, buckets – you name it if it has water Woody loves it! Our favorite summertime fun is to watch Woody jump in the baby pools and splash around. Woody is still an active pup, but he’s calming down and maturing. Woodrow is housetrained. He walks well on a leash and loves going for walks. He also loves car rides. Woodrow is exceptionally smart and learns quickly. He is well behaved in his kennel and out. Woodrow is just a big sweetheart towards people. Woodrow doesn’t seem to like dogs or cats and will do best as an only pet. Having gone without love, food, toys and other resources early on, Woody is known to guard his resources when other dogs are nearby. Woody gets occasional sleepovers with a favorite volunteer. He loves these times away and transitions easily into the home environment. Woody may be a bigger boy, but he lives small and he’s quiet. He needs a fenced yard to play and sun himself. He will make for a fantastic companion for a less active person or family. He’d be a great travel buddy and constant companion. He relishes quiet time, soft blankets a kind hand and snuggle time. He’s well-mannered, friendly, affectionate, calm, quiet, and dignified. Even after five years, he’s still a big, silly and goofy hippo, but lately we’ve seen signs of depression in our once happy hippo. A little less sparkle, a little less excitement and a little less interest in things. Woody needs someone to show him that his life matters and who understands dog behavior and can build up Woody’s confidence again. We pray that his furever person comes for him and gives him his happy back. If interested in giving Woody a soft landing, please submit a dog application online at www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org Please call our shelter at 706-865-4135 or email us at smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net to let us know to be on the lookout. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.

Story
Teechee is named after the Cateechee Golf Course where she was found as a stray. The staff of the golf course made sure she was fed and tried to find her owners. When no one came forward, we knew we had to get her to safety. Teechee loves other dogs and will climb a fence to get to a playmate in the next yard. She is gentle and shows love to anyone who is kind to her. While she is quite strong, she is learning to walk calmly on a leash. One of our caring volunteers took Teechee to training classes at our local PetSmart. She is now an obedience school graduate! If you are looking for a loyal, loving companion, Teechee is your girl. ##1865896##

Story
Luce is a 60-pound, year-old black beauty. Luce is a strong girl. She does well with dogs she knows and prefers her friends to be submissive to her. She was born in July 2020 so isn't a puppy but still has some puppy energy. She loves sniffing and exploring her foster family's back yard. Luce enjoys nightly cuddles on the couch with her foster parents and seeks attention from her humans: large and small. She is a total love bug and pretty too. Luce is crate trained, spayed & microchipped and up to date on all vaccinations. Like any young pup she may need some training but truly is the sweetest girl!  Luce would love to have a family of her own - could it be yours?
