Story
1/14 Update: 🐶Halo's Journey - from timidly terrified to cautiously comfortable🐕Halo is a 1 year old, 50 pound pup who came to MOAS over 8 weeks ago as a shutdown and scared little girl who needed help. Help came in the form of one of our wonderful foster homes! Slowly, day by day, Halo is learning that humans can be kind and that life can be an adventure. Now three weeks into foster care, she’s moved from pure fear to cautiously comfortable, and that growth is no small thing.🥹She is ever so gentle and careful, clearly wanting affection even when her bravery wavers. She’s crate trained, has had zero accidents in the house, and absolutely loves going on walks once her harness is on. She desperately wants to trust...wants to please. She's a good girl!Halo's foster mom describes her as a work in progress, but a beautiful one.🥹 Halo has found her voice (a funny little yelp!) to ask to come inside. She relies heavily on her canine companions for confidence and is slowly learning that people aren’t so scary after all. The other dogs have helped tremendously, showing her the ropes and giving her courage when she doesn’t yet have it on her own. She would thrive best in a forever home with canine companions.Halo still needs patience and understanding. Sometimes her fear takes over, and creative problem-solving is part of the routine, but every step forward is a victory. Her foster believes it may take a few months of consistency and security for Halo to truly settle in, however, we and her foster mom believe she is well worth every bit of the time and love.🥰For the right person, Halo will be an incredibly special companion. Watching her learn to trust is nothing short of amazing, and her story is still being written. 💫To meet Halo, complete an application online and we'll set up a meet and greet with her foster parent --> https://www.moaspets.com/adoptable-dogs12/30 Update:✨ Meet Halo ✨Halo is a very timid soul. She's 1 year old, around 50 pounds, and currently in temporary foster care. Halo's foster mom says she reminds her of a deer. Always watching. Always ready to flee. Unsure if the world is safe yet.Halo is learning what it means to be a dog in a home. She’s watching the other dogs and slowly figuring out routines, comfort, and trust. She is crate trained and has started laying on the couch with her foster family. In those quiet moments, she feels semi-secure… and that’s a big step for her. 💛She is extremely submissive with other dogs and would do well with calm, confident canine companions who can continue to show her the ropes. She allows her foster mom (and other family members) to pet her and even pick her up without any sign of aggression. Halo is gentle through and through.🥹That said, Halo is not a “plug and play” dog. She is not ready for public outings, busy environments, or traffic. Leash training is slow and careful, and her world right now needs to stay small and predictable. She is still learning that humans and homes can be safe. But here’s the beautiful part:She’s improving. 💙She no longer spends nearly all her time hiding in the corner. Those small wins mean everything. Her foster mom is committed to her and isn’t giving up, because every little step forward is worth celebrating. (Have we mentioned how much we LOVE our foster families!?!)Halo is going to need a very special adopter. Someone patient. Quiet. Kind. Someone who understands that trust can’t be rushed and that progress may come in inches, not miles. In return, you’ll be helping a truly gentle soul learn what it means to belong. If Halo’s story speaks to you, please reach out. Her journey is just beginning, and with the right human, her world can continue to grow. 🐾💫Halo is about 1 year old and weighs around 50 pounds. She's a little explorer in the play yard but regularly walks up to say "hey!" She and her cagemate were learning to play with the ball while out with a volunteer today. Halo was one of TWELVE dogs that arrived at MOAS in a single day. We are bursting at the seams with so many wonderful animals. Please call the shelter at (706) 795-2868 to schedule a meet and greet.Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter is a non-profit shelter serving over 720 square miles. Story
Penny is 1 year old, 55 pounds. Joined us at MOAS on 11/19Who wouldn’t want this thick chocolate brown pibble that you can squeeze endlessly? Penny is a LOVER. She loves hugs and affection. She also loves rolling around on her back. While she may come on strong at first, that energy wears off over time and I truly think she’ll be a couch snuggler extraordinaire once she’s in a home. She’s been wonderful with the dogs she’s been tested with, and was very submissively playful with a dominant male. She got to meet a young kid today and was extremely gentle, even when taking treats out of his hand. The only thing that’s a “no no” for her is a home with cats because she does like to chase! Please call the shelter at (706) 795-2868 to schedule a meet and greet.Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter is a non-profit shelter serving over 720 square miles.
