Story

Gordy is a sweet, loving companion in need of a home with someone/people who love him. He loves to play with other doggies, stuffed animals and hard chew toys. He is fully house trained, he does not chew on anything besides his toys and he is very low maintenance. He is 7 years old and currently 80 lbs but he’s on a diet with the goal of loosing another 10 lbs. He would do great in a home with laid back environment, preferably no cats as he is hyper-fixated on them. Gordy does great with other dogs, however preferably not a home with a high energy puppy since they tend to jump on him and though he tries, he is unable to keep up with them. He loves to go outside just as much as he loves to take long naps on his comfy bed and heated blanket! He is very kid friendly, he loves back and belly scratches, putting his head out of the window on car rides, beef and chicken jerky dog treats along with lots of love!! Story

Oscar was found wandering the streets of an Eastpoint neighborhood by one of his "mommies" who is known for helping dogs in need. She recruited a few ladies from her neighborhood, and me, to try to help him. We managed to coral him into a fenced in yard of a neighbor so he would be safe. We gave him some food and water, shelter, and ongoing vet care. We got him the biggest kennel we could find and set him up in his original mommy's backyard. Even built him a custom doghouse! Don't worry, his mommy brings him in her house on cold nights. We've been doing as much as we can for him the past year and a half but we both have full-time jobs, dogs of our own, and family members to take care of. All the rescue organizations we've contacted are full. He is such a love bug, crate trained, house trained, and not aggressive. He loves other dogs, but he does play rough, so he would need another dog that can match his energy and size, and an owner with experience in socializing dogs.

We adopted Simba Kannan from Dekalb County Animal shelter in January 2024. He has adjusted very well to being in a home and gets along with other dogs and children. He needs some minor additional training, but is overall well behaved. He comes with a crate, bowls, a 24 lbs bag of food (lasts about 3 weeks), and heartworm preventative. When Casper smiles at you, and he smiles at you a lot, it feels like everything is right with the world. He's got a huge grin, and his whole face radiates joy. We've got a big crush on him! This sweet, meaty boy loves feeling the sun on his face and carrying around a tennis ball in his mouth. Casper can chase balls for days. He loves our off-leash play area, where he can run laps and roll in the dirt and leaves (his favorite thing). Casper is playful but also enjoys chilling with you. He's attentive with his friends and will check in with you when you're out walking. He also knows his basic skills, like sit and stay and wait. He'll do pretty much anything for a treat. Casper is able to pass other dogs without any issues and we're evaluating him to get a feel for how he might be with another dog in the house. His best fit would be a home with grownups who will play with him and take him for walks. He'd love a yard, and exercising with you would be his favorite thing. Beo adores his human friends, and, in his world, everyone is Beo's friend. This guy wakes up every morning with a smile on his face, ready for the best day of his life. Beo loves, loves, loves people, and nothing would make him happier than to have his very own human being. Our animal care specialist Morgan, who spends a lot of time with Beo, writes: "Beo is the biggest ham. He has a high energy level and has no concept of personal space (wants all the attention and is willing to jump on you for it, but then gives you all the kisses to make up for it). He will light up the room with that big smile of his." Beo has been invited on several shelter outings during his time at PAWS, and he has done well with new people and been a friend to the other shelter dogs around him. The strain of shelter life seems to have frayed his nerves somewhat, causing him to fixate a bit more on other dogs while out walking our trails. That said, with the right introduction, something we can facilitate, we think Beo would do really well with another dog in the home, especially one who is playful and friendly. Beo's dream would be to have children in his life, and we think he would do well with older kids who will be okay with him gradually learning that jumping up on people isn't always the best way of saying a polite hello. The reindeer puppies are now accepting applications! These gorgeous babies – look at those eyes! – did not have the best start in life and were taken from a terrible situation by animal control. They came in sick, emaciated and skittish but we are happy to report they have blossomed with vetting and TLC. We do not know parentage but they are about two months old now and expected to be medium-sized adults. They are just getting started on potty training so are looking for a household where they can be let out frequently. They love other dogs and are very sweet, gentle puppies - we expect they would be just fine with children as long as they can handle them appropriately.
