Story
This friend has just arrived because their owner could no longer keep them. While owners can provide some history on their pets, our medical and behavioral teams will still evaluate them. Dogs that have lived in homes previously typically have some training established, but we cannot guarantee that those behaviors will remain consistent in a new home environment. They are pending interactions with other animals at the shelter until they have been cleared by our vet. Our staff will spend some time getting to know them and we will update their bio with more information as we learn. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
ABOUT SUNFLOWER Sunflower is a 2-year-old sweetheart! Before making her way to HAP, Sunflower was originally a Texas girl. Despite being bounced around a bit, this girl isn't phased at all! Sunflower LOVES meeting new people and has done well walking with her doggy friends at the shelter! This sweet girl is quick to roll over in order for someone to have full access to pay the tummy tax! One of Sunflower's favorite things is to 'go shopping' in one of the many toy baskets in our facility and she will help herself by throwing herself almost completely into the basket and will take her time searching through until she finds the one her heart desires! Once she's made her selection, she likes to cuddle up with the toy before bringing it in with her into her kennel where she has a huge toy pile of all of her favorite possessions that she's always snuggling with! While she's only been with us less than a month, she has already had many adventures through our Doggy Day Out program. Here's what some volunteers had to say about her: "Sunflower is the sweetest baby! We walked 5.3 miles at Bellevue Park. Met a couple horses on the trail which I think fascinated her! Had a good time sniffing all around, saw squirrels, people, other dogs and she was fine. She didn't pull on the leash and she was always checking in with me during our walk. She loves pets and has a constant tail wag. I needed to help her into the car because she is a shorty but she had no trouble getting out. She is just the perfect doggo! - Autumn "I took Sunflower out today! She's such a sweet girl (and very photogenic)! She loved sniffing, watching squirrels, and meeting people. Walked very well on a leash for almost 4 miles! Of course we ended the day with a pup cup. I hope she finds her family soon! - Sydney If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. Story
ABOUT TROUBLE Does your vacuum need replacing? We've got just the guy! Trouble is a 3-year-old big, bully mix who loves life! Trouble came to HAP when his owners could no longer have a dog. Contrary to his name, he is a sweet and snuggly guy. We quickly learned this guy is curious, playful, and such a lover boy at heart. Trouble has grown quite the reputation at the shelter, as he is quick to make sure no treats are left behind anywhere. He is super food-motivated, knows basic commands, appears house-trained, and walks well with a harness. Trouble is still working on some basic big dog manners, as he is convinced he's no bigger than a chihuahua. He would make the perfect coach potato and loves entertaining himself with bones. Trouble has also enjoyed participating in our Doggy Day Out program. Here's what his friends have to say about their day with him: "I took this handsome beefcake, Trouble, out yesterday! He enjoyed being in the car, jumped right in, snout out the window. He was a bit overzealous when taking treats but responded well to redirection, it’s very clear he’s not aggressive, just learning manners. My partner joined us for a walk and Trouble was very friendly towards him, as well as someone who stopped us while walking to ask to pet him. We even ran into a neighborhood stray dog running around and trouble had zero reaction and was happy to be redirected back down the street. On the way back i got him a cheeseburger which he seemed pretty thrilled about. He’s so friendly, cuddly and seems to get along with everyone, i hope he catches somebody’s eye soon!" - Lex "Today I did a DDO with this big boy, Trouble! Contrary to his name, he was an absolute angel. He loved being out of the shelter and meeting people. Our first stop was Petsmart, where he insisted on going up and down every isle. Then we went to Home Depot where Trouble got a lot of treats, rubs, and attention from staff and customers alike! He adored all the attention! Our next stop was Costco where we shared a hot dog and topped it off with a pup cup from Starbucks! Trouble loves to see what is going on and help you drive because he had his little paw on my shoulder the entire time!" - Kaitlin If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Story
Graham is a very sweet and playful dog! He is one of our longest residents as he has been here since September of 2022! We took him on from another rescue, so he has not known much of the comforts of a home. He enjoys walks outside, playing with toys, and sleeping in crazy positions. He loves attention from anyone and everyone. He just wants to be loved. In his ideal home he would be the only pet as he loves all the attention to himself. He would do well with kids 10+ as he doesn’t know that he is a little to large to be a lap do. He would do best in a home with an active owner. His adoption fee is covered by an amazing sponsr. Please fill out an application to meet Graham!

Story
Coco is a little over a year old. She is full of energy. Loves to run, and play. She needs someone who will keep her exercised and busy. She loves pets and snuggles. She is very playful with cats and small children so an introduction period may be necessary. She is fixed, house broken and crate trained but we have not had any professional training. We can provide vet records. I would request a vet reference for any potential adopters.

Story
Looking for a new King in your castle? I'm looking for a new home to call my own! I came to the shelter when my owner wasn't able to care for me, and I'm not so sure I like the shelter when I have seen what the life of being a spoiled pup can be like! I am still a young guy - just around 9 months old and already a hefty 60 pounds, so I may get a smidge bigger as I grow! I was doing well with house training, and could likely thrive in an active home who will let me run, play and explore to my heart's content! If you think we could be a royally great match, come meet me and let's see if we can take on life together!   Have Room in Your Home? Welcoming in a pet saves your new pet's life and creates space for another pet to get a chance! Not sure if King would be the best fit for you? Send in a generic app! Story
ABOUT HANKY PANKY Meet our most lovable, snuggly guy! Hanky Panky is a 1-year-old terrier mix who loves hanging with people and other dogs. Hanky came to HAP from a high-intake shelter in Alabama when they no longer had space for him. His first few days in our care, he was a little nervous and scared. However, we quickly learned his personality is larger than life and he loves people! Hanky is a submissive, social pup and has enjoyed spending time with our volunteers, participating in our Doggy Day Out program. Check out what our volunteers had to say about him: "Had a great doggy-day-in with Hanky Panky! He liked to play, tried some of the agility equipment, and loved to tan in the sun while getting pets. He is a very good boy who is excited to have someone near him or petting him. After getting all of his energy out, he enjoyed lying on the blanket and watching cars go by. He is a gentle, calm boy that would be a great addition to a family." - Megan "He was playful and was playing with my hand and the leash and kept rolling over. I picked him up and put him in the car, he loved being in the car and was looking out the window. We went to Bellevue Park. He was fine getting out of the car! Once we started walking he loved smelling everything. He really enjoyed being on a walk and was very good on the leash. He didn’t pull at all and kept checking in with me. We mainly walked in the trails in the woods. There were dogs and people he saw at a distance and he was fine. After Bellevue we went to Caufiell estate and took another walk. I did have to pick him up to put in the car but he had no trouble getting out. Stopped at the ice cream shop for a pup cup which he loved! He fell asleep on the ride back to the shelter. Hanky Panky was such a good boy and great walking partner! I hope homebody adopts this sweetheart!" - Autumn If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire!
