Story
Posie is a beautiful, intelligent dog who’s been working hard on her training for several months and has made great strides with the help of a dedicated trainer. She is looking for a very specific kind of home—one where her boundaries are respected, her training is maintained, and her environment is predictable and safe.Posie is not a dog-park kind of girl. She can be resource aggressive with both dogs and humans, especially around food, toys, and even people she bonds with. She requires strict management and supervision around other animals and should never be left alone with other pets. For this reason, she will thrive best as the only dog in the home. While Posie has slowly learned to tolerate and even bond with her trainer’s dogs, that process took over a month and still requires careful attention to avoid conflicts. Her ideal adopter will be someone committed to continuing her structured training using tools like a remote collar and positive reinforcement, especially in public or off-leash environments. When her training is followed, she does beautifully on leash and can pass other people and animals calmly and confidently.Because Posie can be reactive with humans over resources as well, she needs an adult-only home with dog-savvy adopters who understand how to read canine behavior and are comfortable managing a dog with strong opinions and boundaries.Posie is not the dog for every home—but for the right person, she will be an incredibly loyal, loving, and rewarding companion. If you're experienced, patient, and ready to continue her training and give her the structure she needs, Posie will return your dedication with endless heart. We are committed to finding the perfect match for Posie to set her—and her future family—up for success. If you're interested, we’d love to talk and set up a time for you to meet her with guidance from her trainer. Story
Chunk is a 60 lbs, 5 year old bully mix that joined MHCR in September of 2024. He’s short in stature, big in personality, and commits to his humans for life. Chunk made a canine buddy while in foster care and they spent over a year together before she was recently adopted. Now he is alone. Chunk LOVED playing with her. Their acclimation was slow and steady overtime, though. That’s the way Chunk likes it. He isn’t a kiss on the first date kind of guy; more like the 100th. As such, he’s looking for a cat and canine free home with hermit-ish humans. Walks make him act a fool, car rides aren’t his jam; he wants homebody humans looking for a loyal, silly, companion. Oh! They must also have a crate for him, it’s his safe space. Chunk is a very sweet, loving, extroverted boy with people, and especially when snacks are involved. He’s very chill, low maintenance, and quiet when he settles into a place and understands there are no ongoing threats lurking about. He likes limited play time but mostly is low energy and likes multiple daily naps, snuggles, and sunbathing. He sleeps through the night and is crate and housetrained. He likes baths and is a gentleman in the tub. He lets his little human foster sisters dress him up. He has not been aggressive with people in any manner, even for veterinary visits and ‘scary’ 🙄 nail trims. He’s physically healthy and Iikes to keep his teeth clean with dental chews and sticks. His personality, quirks, and uniqueness know no bounds, and to know him is to know a little splash of comedy and resilience related to enjoying life after darkness. He’s a cute low rider clunker blockhead tank and class clown. Chunk is a constant reminder that saving one dog doesn’t change the world, but it does change the world for that dog. Chunk is in foster in Fort Collins, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/chunk You can apply for our wonderful dogs at https://www.milehighcanine.org/adopt/adoption-application/.

Story
Fanny is a 1 year old, female, pittie/border collie mix. She flew under the radar at the shelter and we were lucky to get her out in the nick of time! While we do not know her history, her fosters have given her glowing reviews! She is very friendly and attentive, walks decently on a leash, behaves well in a crate, and is friendly with dogs, kids, and even cats!! Fanny loves to play fetch—balls are life. She is the perfect mix of strong, playful, fit adventure buddy paired with sweet, sensitive, snuggler who lacks any understanding of personal space. Though Fanny has not had much training yet, she is clearly highly intelligent and is very eager to learn. Scoop up this adorable dog; you will see just how lucky you are to have her. Story
"Hi, I am April, I am a super sweet little girl with the coolest patch over my bright, blue eye! My photo makes me look bigger and more serious than I am…I still a floppy, soft puppy!! I have such an even keeled personality and am up for anything. Hanging out and playing with people? That’s my FAVORITE thing! I am extremely human focused. I love playing with the little kids in my home, then chilling next to them on the couch, chewing a bone in the evenings. My foster family have great laps to sleep on. I love cuddling! I enjoying playing with my siblings and the other adult dogs in the house. Sometimes my siblings and I team up for a great game of tug-o-war with one of the adult dogs in the home. It is so fun! I was born on October 19th and am now 12 weeks old. I am came to Colorado from a high-kill shelter in Houston, TX when I was 4 weeks old with my mama and siblings. I have been socialized with people ever since. Did I mention I am a super smart girl? I am already crate trained and working hard on house breaking. I already use the dog door. My mama is just 45lbs, so I will probably be around a 50lb medium sized dog. And as for my breed? Well, a DNA test of one of my siblings say I am a Staffordshire Terrier mix…mixed with 10 other breeds!! My blue eyes must come from the 6% hisky in me! I really want my forever home so I can start bonding with my new humans or any new dog or cat siblings that may be there too. Is that your home?" April is being fostered in Castle Rock, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs.* You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/april/. Story
Topper...seriously one of the sweetest, calmest, most submissive dogs I have ever met. He doesn't bark, he is not hyper, he loves to cuddle, he is submissive with other dogs and never shows any aggression even if a dog is trying to be dominant with him, and is living with cats and kittens. He was picked up by animal control with a large gash on his neck. The shelter fixed him up but then he ran out of time and was placed on the euthanasia list. I am so glad I got him out because he is the best. He is currently still in Oklahoma where he was rescued but he can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take him in or he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Note: No dogs are advertised as potty-trained because most dogs need at least some re-training in a new environment and after being in a shelter/rescue environment/strays. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue (copy and paste into a new browser window) Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Spokane, Tacoma, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Bellingham) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Montana (Missoula) - Illinois (Vandalia, Springfield, Chicago) - Indiana (Spiceland, Burn Harbor) - Michigan (St Joseph, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor) - Wisconsin (Madison, Wausau, Eau Claire, Appleton, Milwaukee) - Minnesota (Minneapolis/St Paul) - Iowa (Des Moines) - Ohio (Columbus and London) - Pennsylvania (Erie, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) - New Jersey (Bedminster) - Nevada (Las Vegas) - Arizona (Flagstaff) - Vermont (Brattleboro) Vetting: neutered, microchipped, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dhpp vaccine x 3, lepto vaccine x 2, dewormed several times, on monthly flea and tick prevention, on monthly heartworm protection, heartworm tested (negative).
