Story
Brutus, a protective and loyal companion, never stood a chance in the traditional shelter environment. Surrounded by unfamiliar faces and uncertain about his future, he was overwhelmed and scared. Unfortunately, the traditional shelter system was not equipped to address his specific needs, leaving him set up for failure. Recognizing this, we made the compassionate decision to take him in and give him a chance at a better life. We owe a heartfelt thank you to Amy, the person who stepped up for Brutus and fought for his life. Amy's unwavering dedication and pleas on his behalf have not gone unnoticed. It is through her efforts that we have hope that someone out there will also step up for Brutus and provide him with the love and care he deserves. Despite his challenging past, Brutus has been neutered, microchipped, and is ready to find his forever home. He has shown positive interactions with both neutered male and female dogs during his time with us. While he did display some food aggression towards a smaller male, it is an area that can be worked on with proper training and guidance. One thing is for certain, Brutus adores people and will make an incredible companion for someone looking for an only dog. Additionally, he has proven to be well-behaved when it comes to potty training and has never made any messes in his enclosed, heated trailer. At 60 lbs, he is a quiet sleeper and can comfortably sleep in a crate. Although he may still need some work on jumping, his teeth are clean, and he is estimated to be around 2 years old. While he tends to prefer the company of female dogs, introductions should be done slowly and carefully to ensure a smooth transition. Despite our best efforts, we are still searching for a kind hearted person to take in this deserving pup, as he was retrieved from a Colorado to prevent him from being euthanized. ##1960027##

If Not Tay, Who? PLEASE SHARE TO ADOPT Apply here: https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=1960416&name=Tay   This sweet girl has been part of our family for some time now, primarily due to a few behavioral challenges we've been addressing together, as well as her somewhat unassuming nature. While she may not stand out at first glance, there’s a gentle charm about her that is waiting to be discovered.   Her personality is still developing, and she is eager for the guidance of a more experienced dog to help her navigate the world. This little one thrives on structure and companionship, and having a mentor would greatly benefit her as she learns the ropes of doggy life. She has a heart full of potential and is ready to blossom with the right support.   Tay is a bundle of joy, always excited to greet her humans and snuggle up for some quality time. She enjoys playing fetch and gets along well with other dogs, making her a delightful companion. We are currently working on her confidence, including skills like going through doorways and managing her reactions at fences. Tay is crate trained, house trained, and walks well on a leash, making her a great addition to an active household that includes children. If you think you could be the perfect match for Tay, please visit our website for more information, as we are waiving her adoption fee for approved homes. ##1960416##

Story
Penny gets along great with kids and other dogs. She warms up to people quickly and she is very smart. Penny loves going on walks seeing all the people. She also likes to play in the pool in our play yard. Penny`s personality is to always play. If you would like to meet Penny, call the LPCHS front desk or walk-in today to schedule an appointment! Penny`s review from one of our wonderful volunteers:`Penny was very enthusiastic to get out of the kennel. She greeted the other dogs with some barks and tail wags. She really wanted to play, but the other dogs didn`t feel comfortable enough to play with her until the halfway point of our walk. At that point, all of the dogs were more relaxed, so they easily played with one another. She listened to commands when her name was called. She was very excited to be out in nature, and she was tired enough by the end of our walk that she fell asleep in the back of my car on the ride back to the shelter. She pulled a bit, especially at first when she was full of energy, but overall, she was a very well-behaved pup.`

Story
This is Gretchen and her volunteer buddy wanted to share about their adventure: `Gretchen, always super active, was very excited to get out this morning. She greeted the other pups with an engaging and friendly bark in the parking lot. She did not hesitate one second to hop in the back seat of my SUV. She seemed ready for an adventure. Once at our final destination, she pretty much led the pack and pulled for a while. It wasn`t until we reached the end of the trail that she decided to mingle with the other 3 dogs. She was very friendly, wagging her tail, giving kisses. She was totally relaxed after that break and welcomed a couple of cookies. Every pup got to drink before we all got back in the car. Gretchen was really calm once we got going and she laid down on the way back, confident and a bit tired. Totally well mannered. It was a totally successful experience.`

Story
Billy is currently in foster, but is still available! Words from his foster home: Billy is a lover boy. He loves to climb into my lap and snuggle. He’s super sweet and very gentle. I have taken him for a few walks and he loves the trails. He would be a great hiker/biker/runner/ranch/farm dog. I have two other dogs and he respectfully follows them-he is not an aggressive alpha male, he is a curious follower. He likes to spend his free time laying outside in the yard. He is still a bit uncertain around my very tall husband but he loves children. I have a low fence but he remains in bounds. He is house trained. He gets along really well with other dogs-I haven’t seen him around cats. He’s still growing so the world is still new to him. He has two beautiful different colored eyes and a speckled snout. He needs a bit more leash training but is learning sit/stay/touch quite quickly. Take this dog home and have a snuggle companion for the cold winter, as well as a partner for your outdoor activity of choice.Call LPCHS to schedule a meeting with Billy today!
