Brave is a lovable one-year-old pitbull mix with a gentle yet cautious personality. He's still learning to navigate the world, so he can be a bit nervous and shy when meeting new people. Brave needs a slow and patient introduction to feel safe and comfortable around new faces, but once he gets to know you, his true personality shines through.Despite his initial apprehension, Brave is a sweet and affectionate dog who thrives on love and companionship. His gentle eyes and wagging tail will greet you once he warms up, and he's always ready to share his happiness. One of Brave's favorite activities is playing with his collection of stuffed toys. He loves carrying them around, snuggling with them, and tossing them in the air for a little solo playtime. He bonds deeply with those who take the time to earn his trust, and once he does, you'll have a faithful companion who is always by your side. With his mix of sweetness, playfulness, and sensitivity, Brave is the perfect pup for someone willing to offer him the patience and love he needs to blossom into the happy, confident dog he's meant to be.

Story
Through no fault of her own, Samantha has been in our shelter for more than a year after being found as a stray. She is nothing if not resilient, living in a kennel week after week, month after month, and we are honored to care for her. But she needs a home. Take a close look at this deserving little pittie. Perhaps you'll see what we do: the best smiling face, the happiest attitude, the bubbliest personality. Can you imagine waking up to this pure doggie joy every day? She's a smiler who seems to revel in life, a dog who sees the glass as half full. The word wigglebutt was invented for Samantha. She's been in a shelter for so long, she has been quite nervous in a couple of her foster homes, barking at noises and people she doesn't know. But she settles down with patience. Samantha's reactivity toward other animals has improved, but she should be your only pet until she receives further training to leave cats and small dogs alone. * 2 years, 4 months old * small for her breed * easy to walk * lots of fun * loves people * Good with kids * should be only fur child Apply on our website, and call (510) 337-8565 to make an appointment. If she is not in a foster home, you may meet Samantha any afternoon except Monday at 1590 Fortmann Way in Alameda, California. Her adoption fee has already been paid for by an admirer, so you owe nothing!

Story
Who hasn't dreamed of an endless summer? Of days filled with walks on the beach, drowsing on a blanket in the park... If you can relate, you and Summer are on the same wavelength! She can make all your days bright and sunny like your favorite season if you become her forever family. Summer likes nibbling toys and rolling in the grass. She's very affectionate, pretty easy to walk and does okay around other dogs in public. However, she probably wants to be your only furbaby at home. (More info to come as we do more "dog testing"!) Here's what Summer's foster mom had to say: * Very sweet! Leans in for scratches. * LOVES balls. She’s great at running during a game of fetch, but hasn’t learned to give the ball back. She’d prefer to chew on it! * Like so many salon-fearful pets, she's not crazy about having her paws touched. You'll get a polite little warning snap. Come meet Summer at 1590 Fortmann Way in Alameda any day but Monday from noon to 4PM, and always have blue skies with this silly girl by your side.

He plays hard but it's not aggressive, just exuberance. Did you know that all FAAS canine adoptions come with $200 in free behavior training? Fantastic Hudson is waiting to meet you at our main shelter at 1590 Fortmann Way in Alameda, California!

Story
When Cusco sees another dog, a baby carriage, or a piece of crumpled paper blowing down the street, he stops in his tracks and goes, "Whoa!" No, it's not his impression of Keanu Reeves - but his mind seems truly blown by almost everything he sees. Before being found as a stray, Cusco must have led a sheltered life. He might technically be grown, but he's still an innocent! Collars and leashes and the world at large? All new stuff to this skittish but adorable fur boy. Fortunately, Cusco quickly recovers from every "shocking" discovery he makes and is soon back to his bouncy, inquisitive puppy self. He would really love to go home with a loving family where a little patience will probably go a long way toward helping him become a confident adult. * 11 months old * 43 lbs * Energetic * Shy but very sweet * Happy to meet new people and dogs after a brief warm-up introduction * Older kids okay When he's excited to see you, Cusco hops and play bows. Too cute! Though he's in awe of many things, he has grown to love going on walks and taking in all the sights and sounds. This handsome "teenager" has lots of wriggly love, affection, and pure joie de vivre to give a forever family. Meet wonderful Cusco at our 1590 Fortmann Way location any afternoon but Monday. FAAS offers free canine behavior training classes with every dog adoption.

Story
Machu Picchu arrived as a stray with a young dog that was probably her brother, whom we named Cusco. More outgoing than his sister, Cusco has already been adopted. Shy-but-sweet Machu is waiting for her happily-ever-after. She will make a great companion for the right family! * 9 months old * 39.4 lbs. * Slowly warms up to new people and other animals * Sensitive and cautious * Smart * No kids * Easy to walk * Awesome Spock ears Machu warns off rowdy dogs by showing teeth but has not been aggressive toward people and does not guard her food or toys. We think that once in the bosom of a loving family, she will probably mature into a confident pup. Come take lovely Machu for a stroll any afternoon but Monday at 1590 Fortmann Way in Alameda, California. Adopt this lovely young lady and watch her blossom!

Cali is on the small side for a pit bull and super sweet. She has a doggy smile and tail wag for everyone she meets. Her beautiful brindled coat is so soft it feels like cashmere. After tough times Cali deserves all the good things! * 4 years old * 47 lbs. * Knows sit and down * Loves people * Easy to harness and walk * Very gentle taking treats * No other dogs * Kids probably okay Past traumas - Cali has healed bite scars on her face - might be why she reacts so poorly to other dogs. We don't recommend a home with other pets. But people? Cali loves humans to the moon and back and deserves all that love right back. Do you have a place in your life for this sweetheart? Story
This chunky meat sandwich is as wide as she is long, and the sweetest girl you'll ever encounter. Between her permanent tongue blep, and a nubbin that never stops moving, Muffuletta is working hard for her title of Cutiest Patootie at Muttville. Here's some notes from her foster: Muffaletta is a fun dog to foster! She's smaller in height but stocky and strong. She's loves belly rubs and will roll onto her back letting you know you're doing a good job. When she gently puts her paw on your leg or arm, because she wants another head rub, the heart melts! During the day she snores by my side while I work on my laptop. She does not show signs of anxiety. Walks are short and on the slower side, 15-20 minutes. She's comfortable walking around the neighborhood (Lower Haight) which can be noisy. While I get to know her behavior, we pass dogs on the sidewalk keeping a distance, and she does not show interest. She's VERY food focused. Great for training. She "sits like a queen, ready for her treat. If she thinks you have food, she will give you a sniff down. I'm discouraging her from "rough play. Not sure if that is the kind of playtime she had in her former life. Muffaletta is learning we prefer gentle play over getting excited, jumping and mouthing - she's a very strong gal. A Kong with treats keeps her very entertained and she loves Nylabone dog toys. Muffaletta is an energetic, messy eater. I realized unless a food bowl is really secure, she'll push and follow it across the floor. For now, I'm using an Ikea bowl and holding it while she eats. Observing her mouth, it's not easy for her to eat and be "dainty. Muffaletta is a love bug and I look forward to connecting her with the furever home she deserves. She can do stairs but needs a home where she doesn't need to climb a lot of them.

Story
Energetic, loving, and goofy 9-year-old Ella is super sweet but needs a family with an experienced dog owner. A little under 2ft tall and 40 lbs, she's sleek and muscular. Ella is fully house-trained and very patient with the three cats she lives with. She's never lived with kids but is generally chill with the children in the neighborhood.
She loves her toys, playing fetch, tug of war games, following you around the house, and of course, napping. Ella wants to be involved in whatever you're doing and is alert to someone coming to the door. She is highly food motivated, Ella picks up new tricks quickly but can be stubborn and easily distracted, so she needs lots of consistent positive reinforcement to maintain behavioral changes. She has many opinions and she will let you know about them.
Ella also plays well with other dogs, although sometimes she has issues with dogs larger than she is, but is good at de-escalating potential conflicts. Ella really loves company so if her new people are gone for a full work day she will need a canine companion. She's leash trained and always excited to jump in the car to visit the park. Ella is a great dog looking for a home where she is loved and cherished. Would you be the one for her?" Ella is now being fostered in Oakland, CA and her adoption fee is $275.00 Arrangements to meet our dogs occur after an application has been received. Please contact us at dogzonerescue@yahoo.com for more information about this great gal or for an application to adopt.
