I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereThis Dog is Available By Appointment Only Awww, Patti Smith makes our hearts melt. This cutie was frightened when she was found wandering in Oakland but seemed to want to be near people even if she was not so sure about them. With some patience and care, Patti Smith has come out of her shell in her foster home! She is a joy to be around. Her foster family reports that Patti enjoys long naps on the most comfortable surface she can find, has great leash manners (although sometimes there's a squirrel that she just can't resist), and is fully house trained. She has been left alone for up to five hours at a time and peacefully napped the whole time. She also enjoys car rides as long as there's a place for her to curl up and nap. You'll notice a theme here - sleeping is high on Patti's list of favorite activities! One of the cutest things she does is when she's given a new bone - she grunts and struts around the house to show it off before settling down to enjoy it. And when she's feeling herself, she'll roll around on the grass for fun. She is a sweet and mellow companion once she makes friends with people. Patti Smith has shown some nervousness around people she does not know trying to pet her, and will be best in a quiet home. She's about 90 pounds and would blossom even more in a warm, loving furever home (with comfy places to nap)! I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereMeet Sonja, the ultimate couch companion and snuggler. Though she loves lounging around the house, she also makes a great plus-one for all of your social outings. Sonja is a lively girl and is quick to tippy-tap her toes when she's excited, especially about her favorite foods like cream cheese, peanut butter or tuna. She is a great dance partner, and when it comes to dinner time or treating, she will impress you with her lady-like "sit" command. She can't resist soaking up the sun, and may even try to trick you into letting her out for a sunbathing session. Sonja is a very social and friendly dog who loves being surrounded by humans. She is well trained, housetrained, and is perfectly comfortable in a crate. She knows basic commands such as "sit," "down," and "stay." and is a polite and well-behaved house guest. She prefers to sleep on a bed with her humans, but is also content in a crate. She has met a wide variety of people of all ages and has done well with everyone. She would do best in a home with a well-fenced, sunny yard as she can get a little worked up around other animals. Ideal for Sonja to be an only pet in the home. She is well-behaved on a leash and enjoys shorter hikes, but tuckers out around 2 miles. Sonja is about 7 years old and 55 pounds. She is in a foster home, and you can reach out at sonja@jeffvier.com or see more of her (and message her) @sonjadog_oas on Instagram! I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereGet ready to indulge in the most delectable delight of them all – Cheesecake! This sweet pup is the life of the party, and once she's off leash in the yard, she's off like a sprinter at the starting line, ready to have a blast. She craves attention and pets, making her the star of any gathering. But she also comes when called, with so much enthusiasm! Cheesecake's sweetness doesn't stop there. She's the belly rub connoisseur, rolling over for a little dose of love and affection. She takes treats with grace and is an expert at "sit" and "down." Cheesecake does have a little secret – she's sensitive about her head, so a gentle approach is key. And she has a unique little head tilt, likely a memento from a past adventure or injury, possibly. We don't know her past but we know nothing can keep this sweetheart down – she's as happy as can be, ready for all the fun life has to offer. And when it comes to building her confidence, positive reinforcement obedience training is the name of the game.  Cheesecake is all about toys and, of course, soaking up that precious human attention. She's the ultimate 4 year old party animal! As for her canine companions, Cheesecake met a few at the shelter, but she's mostly looking for some one-on-one attention with her forever family. She was mostly uncomfortable meeting other dogs at the shelter and that's OK! We know the shelter can be stressful. So for now, we recommend that she be the only dog in the home. If you're ready to bring a slice of sweetness into your life and share it with Cheesecake, you're in for a treat like no other. I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereMeet Agatha, the epitome of an easy-going sweetheart! This lovely girl is as friendly as they come and absolutely adores attention and affection from her human companions. With a charming personality and a gentle disposition, Agatha is a joy to be around. One of Agatha's favorite pastimes is posing for photos, effortlessly showcasing her adorable features and winning smile. She's also a pro at following commands, coming when called and sitting on cue, proving just how intelligent and eager to please she truly is. At six years young, Agatha is beyond the puppy antics phase, embodying the perfect blend of maturity and playfulness. Weighing in at a petite 44 lbs, she's the ideal size for cuddles and companionship. While Agatha enjoys the company of other dogs, we recommend placement with appropriately matched canine pals who share her independent and easy-going nature. Alternatively, she would thrive as a solo dog with occasional playdates with similarly matched furry friends. Story
Through no fault of her own, Samantha has been in our shelter for more than a year after being found as a stray. She is incredibly resilient, living in a kennel month after month, and we are honored to care for her. But she needs a home. Take a close look at this deserving little pittie. Perhaps you'll see what we do: the best smiling face, the happiest attitude, the bubbliest personality. Can you imagine waking up to this pure doggie joy every day? She's a smiler who seems to revel in life, a dog who sees the glass as half full. The word wigglebutt was invented for Samantha. She's been in a shelter for so long, she has been quite nervous in a couple of her foster homes, barking at noises and people she doesn't know. But she settles down with patience. Samantha's reactivity toward other animals has improved, but she should be your only pet until she receives further training to leave cats and small dogs alone. * 2 years, 4 months old * small for her breed * easy to walk * lots of fun * loves people * Good with kids * should be only fur child Apply on our website, and call (510) 337-8565 to make an appointment. If she is not in a foster home, you may meet Samantha any afternoon except Monday at 1590 Fortmann Way in Alameda, California. Her adoption fee has already been paid for by an admirer, so you owe nothing!

Story
Summer days will never end with this carefree pup by your side. 3-year-old Summer likes long walks, splashing in the water, and rolling in the grass. She also likes nibbling on toys, sniffing new smells, and keeping close tabs on her beloved tennis ball. She ignores other dogs in passing but does not like them in close quarters. * Loving personality * Very playful * Adults-only forever home * No other pets in home Here's what Summer's foster mom had to say: * Very sweet! Leans in for scratches. * LOVES balls. She’s great at running during a game of fetch, but hasn’t learned to give the ball back. She’d prefer to chew on it! * Like many salon-phobic pets, she's not crazy about having her paws touched. You'll get a polite little warning snap. Come meet Summer at 1590 Fortmann Way in Alameda any day but Monday and Tuesday from noon to 4PM.

Story
Do you suffer from social anxiety? Maybe you can relate to Cusco, a dog so painfully shy he would rather run than meet new people! "It's pure panic," says our trainer Leah, about his reaction to prospective adopters. "Fleeing on leash, lunging and yanking trying to get away." And yet Cusco is just the best pup, once over that initial hurdle, a warm and loving dog wanting to play, snuggle, and make eyes at you. He loves playing with his trusted dog friends. Here's what his foster mom had to say about Cusco: "We got to have Cusco stay with us for a week, and he’s such a sweet boy! During the day, he liked to play with our other dog, and they ripped up a few toys together. In the evenings, he loved to cuddle on the couch and with our other dog if she would join us. At night, he slept in his crate, and we didn’t hear a peep! He warmed up to me really quickly but was still a little frightened of my husband. Our dog gets jealous, and he was very easygoing with her. Any loud sounds in the house would send him running, but he didn’t have any issues on our walks. He’s going to be such a great family member when he finds his people. He will take a little bit to feel comfortable, but it’s worth the effort!" Cusco's Cheat Sheet: * Skittish around strangers, loud noises * Wriggly, friendly and happy-go-lucky with familiar people * Adults-only home ideal but mature teens ok * Has separation anxiety; needs crate training. * Likes other friendly dogs he's allowed to get to know * No cats FAAS's free canine behavior training classes can help Cusco reach his full potential. Free classes come with his adoption. Once he finds his groove with you, we're certain Cusco will overcome his fears. Bring your big friendly dog with you to meet him at our 1590 Fortmann Way location any afternoon but Mondays or Tuesdays and get started on an incredibly rewarding adventure!

Story
Cali is on the small side for a pit bull and super sweet. She has a doggy smile and tail wag for everyone she meets. Her beautiful brindled coat is so soft it feels like cashmere. After tough times Cali deserves all the good things! * 4 years old * 47 lbs. * Knows sit and down * Loves people * Easy to harness and walk * Very gentle taking treats * No other dogs * Kids probably okay Past traumas - Cali has healed bite scars on her face - might be why she reacts so poorly to other dogs. We don't recommend a home with other pets. But people? Cali loves humans to the moon and back and deserves all that love right back. Do you have a place in your life for this sweetheart? Story
Zuma is a sweet, wiggly boy who loves going for walks and getting his chest scratched. He likes crawling into laps and is very fond of treats.Zuma doesn`t yet know any verbal commands but is an eager student getting close to mastering `sit`.If you`ve been looking for a pup that will take to training like a fish to water, Zuma could be the perfect pupper for your family.
