Story
Johny (aka Journey) has had quite the "journey" making his way to WAR's care. WAR first came in contact with Journey when he escaped from a car and refused to come back to his owner. WAR responded to a plea on social media and was able to trap him. After trapping him, we found that he had a severe case of foxtails embedded in the webbing of his feet. WAR agreed to have him treated by a vet and he had surgery to remove the foxtails from his paws. After surgery, WAR microchipped him and returned him to his owner, who was staying with a relative at the time. The owner was advised that Journey had just undergone surgery on his paws and needed to be kept indoors and his paws treated daily during his recovery. WAR followed up later and learned that the owner and his relative had turned Journey back outside and he was not receiving the post operative care he needed. Carol went back to the residence to offer her services and learned that the owner had left the residence on foot with Journey and no one knew where they were. It was learned that the owner was homeless and had only been at the residence temporarily.  After a great deal of time, WAR received a call from a shelter in Oregon. They had picked up Journey and had been unable to reach the registered owner. WAR was listed as a secondary contact, so they reached out to us. We quickly sent a plea out to social media to get help transporting Journey from the shelter in Oregon back to WAR. With the help of our amazing community of supporters, we were successful in bringing him back to us.  Fast forward to May/June of 2024..Journey was very happy to be back with us. He was very sweet, loving and playful, but was in need of some obedience training to work on his basic commands, recall and leash training. We put another plea out on social media for a local trainer who would be willing to volunteer their time to work with Journey and were quickly contacted by Tina Garcia from Goin to the Dogs who graciously volunteered her time. The results were outstanding!  Journey is now ready to be adopted into his forever home. He is spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated. Story
Olive is an adorable, youthful and playful Pitbull waiting to find her forever home. While we have no information about this pretty girls background, we know that she has been an indoor dog, she is 1 to 1 ½ years old and weighs 39 pounds. Olive is accustomed to indoor living, so she'll thrive in a household with a cozy and stable environment. Her ability to use a doggy door is a great sign that she's learned to hold her bladder and bowels until she can get outside. This will make training a breeze for her new owners. She is learning her name and responds to “no” pretty well. She will benefit from positive training and learns quickly. Positive reinforcement will be key in building her confidence and strengthening your bond. She has met and is friends with her 3 foster sisters, but hasn’t been exposed to any other dogs or cats. However, it's essential to socialize her with other dogs, as she hasn't been exposed to them yet. She has not been exposed to children. She has separation anxiety, this is a common issue in many dogs, and with the right training and support, Olive can learn to overcome it. Providing a consistent routine, leaving a familiar object with her scent, and gradually increasing alone time will help her adjust. This will help her become a well-behaved and well-adjusted member of your family. Olive will be scheduled to be spayed is current on vaccinations and will be micro-chipped. She will be a loving and loyal companion. Here is a list of things that should help us answer you in a more timely manner. 1. When you apply please always use the same email address. If we need to look something up later and you used a different email we are often not able to find it. 2. Adopt a Pet and Petfinders ask you to send us an enquiry. This always delays our response. (Why) a. Our biographies are always very detailed. Therefore sending an enquiry asking us to repeat what it says in the biography causes a lot more work and delays our response. b. We are a small non-profit and do not always have the help to answer as many enquiries as we get. c. Again our Biographies are very detailed and if you just click the link near the bottom of their bio you can fill out an application which we will respond to. 3. For the AFC website (scroll down to the bio at the bottom it says (apply to adopt today- click that link) www.animalfriendsconnect.org 4. For Petfinders ( scroll down to the biography then click the adoption link) http://animalfriendsconnect.org/adoption-application-dogs/ 5. For Adopt a Pet (scroll way down past “Ask about me”) you will see the biography and underneath that will be the adoption questionnaire link. **Currently in foster** Big Momma is a gentle giant! She's a big couch potato, but she still has plenty of energy. She gets along with most dogs, and we would be more than happy to introduce her to your dog before adoption. She may do well with small children, but we don't know how she feels about cats.
