My HFP story begins with a close call – I was set to be euthanized at a county shelter in Sacramento. It wasn't my fault, just a lack of space. But guess what? Fate had other plans for me, and I spent the holidays in a cozy foster home, waiting for my forever family to come and scoop me up! I’m friendly when meeting people and I had been rocking it in the shelter yard with other dogs! My fosters say I'm super sweet and lovable, despite being a bit older. But hey, age is just a number, right? I love laying by your side while you work, and I'm always up for a game of play. Walks? Oh, they're my absolute favorite! I'm a well-mannered pup, potty trained and great in my kennel when my foster leaves the house. A real winner, or so they say! Now, I used to have some bumps on my abdomen but they were nothing serious. They sound scary because their called a ridiculous name: hemangiomas. Weird, I know. But they are no biggy. Look em’ up. They are non-cancerous growths and they have successfully been removed at UC Davis! I take it all in stride. I've still got pep in my step and a heart full of love. More info about my health journey is coming soon, but for now, I'm just grateful for my change of fate. If you're looking for a sweet, seasoned companion who's ready to bring joy into your life, that's me! Indy’s adoption donation is SPONSORED - includes: Spay, Rabies, DHPP, Bordatella, Microchip Indy is being fostered in SACRAMENTO, CA. Estimated DOB: 8/31/2012 Interested in adopting? 1. Please complete our online form at heartsforpawsrescue.com/adoption-application 2. We will respond in 1-3 days for a call! 3. For this reason we may only be able to schedule meets for one dog at a time (or litter). The average timeline between app submission and a meet and greet is 3-5 days. To apply or learn more about Buddy, go to: https://www.heartsforpawsrescue.com/219873/buddy-fozzy Buddy (Formerly known as Fozzy) was adopted through HFP 3 years ago, but now in need of a new home. He is an easy going guy who would do wonderful in a quiet suburban neighborhood. He loves naps and spends much of the day sleeping on the couch. While Buddy did well meeting dogs 3 years ago while in our program, he has been reactive towards dogs since being adopted and should be an only dog in the home. He is very happy without dogs and will live a very happy life with humans but does not need to interact with dogs. Buddy is very sweet to all people. He would do well in a home with kids 10+ . Housetrained, no separation anxiety, moderate energy and well behaved! Adoption Donation Sponsored by HFP. You might be wondering what “sponsored” means. A dog is sponsored when their foster or a donor loves them so much that they cover the adoption donation for a future adopter. This in hopes that the pup finds his or her forever family ASAP!

Story
To apply or learn more, go to: https://www.heartsforpawsrescue.com/219873/2024/6/10/nellie Meet Nellie! Nellie is a darling old lady (about 8 years old) who enjoys sunbathing and (short) walks in the grass. She was recently pulled from Avenal Shelter and saved from euthanasia at the last minute thanks to a foster! Months and months of enduring the shelter life only to be put to sleep there — no dog deserves this. While she has tested well with dogs and people at the shelter, she has been at the shelter so long that she deserves time to decompress! The decompression period varies for each dog but one should expect at least about 3 weeks to allow a dog time to start feeling comfortable. At this time, we are recommending that Nellie go to a dog free home. More info to come! Adoption Donation includes: Spay, Rabies, DHPP, Bordatella, and microchip. Interested in adopting? 1. Story
To apply or learn more, go to: https://www.heartsforpawsrescue.com/219873/2023/9/5/clarke Meet Goose (formerly Clark), a 60 lb neutered pit mix, 1 year 9 months old who was adopted last year through HFP but is now in need of a new home. His adopter says, “Our board and train trainer described him as a one in a million pitbull” and “not an aggressive bone in his body." Reason for rehoming: He is too rough around our kids. We constantly keep him on a leash or in a kennel or crate because of this. I think he still views our 3 year old more as a playmate than a human. He wants to jump on and play with kids that come over. He’s also not good with cats and should be in a cat-free home. Check the words that best describe your dog.: FRIENDLY, ACTIVE, PLAYFUL, SMART, ROUGH Is your dog housebroken?: Yes Does the dog get alone with dogs? He is dog friendly! He seems to really love dogs. He reacts to other dogs on a leash during walks, but only because he wants to play. I think he would do well with another dog in a home to play with, especially a bigger dog or pit bull that also enjoys rough play! Does your dog have handling sensitivities? How is your dog meeting strangers?: He is fine with adults but barks and growls at new children when they are over. Are there children in the home?: Yes What are their ages?: 11, 9 and 3 Where does the dog sleep?: Crate Is the dog allowed on your furniture?: No Is the dog crate trained?: Yes Where do you keep your dog? In a kennel in our living room or his crate, or at doggy daycare Describe any training the dog has: He was at a board and train for one month. We've been reading dog training books and have taken him to the beginner dog training class at Petsmart. He knows sit, down, pronto (come here right now), responds to his name, is working on "leave it", and loose leash training- he can do it all okay at home but outside, on a walk, or when there are a lot of distractions he has a hard time complying. Does the dog have any known health problems?: No Does the dog like riding in the car?: Yes What is the dog's favorite things?: He really likes tennis balls but destroys them very quickly. He loves bones or hard chew toys. He loves any and all treats. We've been working on playing tug with a rope and teaching him fetch but he doesn't quite get it yet. He loves belly rubs, walks, and loves to go for runs! He really is a good boy and would be a great dog for a runner or for someone without kids (teens confident with dogs would probably be fine!) Our board and train trainer described him as a "not an aggressive bone in his body." Please describe a typical day for your dog: Up between 6 and 7 and goes outside to potty, then hangs out in his kennel during the day. On MWF my husband takes him on walks or has him hang out outside with him during the morning as much as possible. On Tues/Thurs Goose has been going to doggy day care. He'll spend some time in the backyard and in the kennel. He's usually in his crate for bed around 8 or 9. Please provide a summary of the “ideal” home for your dog: The ideal home for Goose would be an adult household (teens that are confident with dogs would probably be ok) with active adults who enjoy going on walks or runs. I think Goose would do well with a best friend dog that he could play with during the day, ideally another dog roughly his size or bigger that also likes to play rough. $100 adoption donation: Neutered, vetted, vaccinated Interested in adopting? 1. Story
**This is a courtesy post. Pikachu is NOT a YCSPCA dog and all adoption inquiries will be sent to his caretaker.** Pikachu, I choose you! Pikachu is a 6-year-old handsome hunk of love looking for his fur-ever home. He is your typical house hippo who loves to chill and go for leisurely strolls around the neighborhood. He is obsessed with tug of war and cuddling on the couch with his foster mom. Pikachu is fully grown and weighs about 70lbs, however, he could probably lose a little bit of weight. Pikachu was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Southern California after he was placed on the euthanasia list. He found himself at the shelter after his previous owner was arrested and no one was able to take over his care. He previously lived with a small dog, who was adopted from the shelter. Pikachu is a quiet and gentle soul who is looking for a family that enjoys pittie cuddles and slobbery kisses. He is the perfect mix of independent and social and enjoys attention, but also is happy to keep to himself when you are busy. He is confident and curious and enjoys venturing out into the world to check out all the smells. Like the character, Pikachu, he’ll basically do nothing until you want him to do something and then he is so game!  Pikachu has done well living with another large dog and has been very respectful of her setting boundaries with him. He could do well living with another chill dog, or as an only dog. Pikachu has never been around cats, so his foster mom isn't sure how he would do living with them. Pikachu seems like he could do well living with respectful kids 10 years and older. Pikachu is house and mostly crate-trained. He is a very food-motivated boy and has been doing great learning his basic manners. He has done well being left alone in his crate for short periods and overnight. Pikachu is a sweet and loving boy and could be a great first dog for someone looking for an easygoing companion. If he sounds like he might be the boy for you, email us at dogs@yolospca.org! Pikachu is neutered, up-to-date with his vaccinations, and up-to-date with his monthly preventatives. **This is a courtesy post. Pikachu is NOT a YCSPCA dog and all adoption inquiries will be sent to his caretaker.** November 7, 2024, 12:17 pm
