Story
Kay is a lovely girl who has been coming out of her shell and is turning into a social pup. She bonds quickly to humans and likes to stay very close. She doesn’t seem to have any issues with other dogs, and passes them calmly, as long as they don't get too close to her preferred human friend. She is friendly and loving, and will make a great addition to just about any home. Kay is currently in a foster home. If you're interested in her, please email KSwanson@cityofberkeley.info First, we'll set up a virtual meeting with their current foster family via phone, Zoom, or Facetime, to provide you with more detailed information. Then, if you feel that Kay might be a good adoption fit, shelter staff will gladly coordinate an up-close and personal meet and greet with your potential family member. Thank you for your support!

Story
Shampers is a tender-hearted, shy girl who needs just a little time and patience to feel safe with new people. She's naturally curious, though, and with a slow, gentle approach, she’ll start checking you out in no time. Once she realizes you’re a friend, she’ll quietly start following along, often tagging behind her person on walks, as if she's trying to stay in the background while still enjoying your company. Loud noises can make Shampers anxious, but in our playroom, she’s beginning to find her confidence. When it comes to other dogs, Shampers really comes alive. Her playful side emerges when she feels safe, and she thrives in the presence of calm, confident dogs who help her feel secure and bring out her playful, carefree side. She looks to them for reassurance, and their companionship shows her that people and the world around her aren't as intimidating as they might seem. She might be hesitant to ask for attention at first, but once you start petting her, she won’t want you to stop! She’s a young dog, full of potential, and just waiting for the right person to show her that the world isn’t so scary after all. Shampers is currently in a foster home. If you're interested in her, please email KSwanson@cityofberkeley.info First, we'll set up a virtual meeting with their current foster family via phone, Zoom, or Facetime, to provide you with more detailed information. Then, if you feel that Shampers might be a good adoption fit, shelter staff will gladly coordinate an up-close and personal meet and greet with your potential family member. Story
Rumba is a volunteer favorite for many reasons. While her cropped ears make her look a little tough, she’s really just a big ol' softie underneath. Rumba loves human affection and will greet you by jumping up and licking your face before asking for some treats and belly rubs. She's a big sweetie and will try to sit on your lap for pets, and then will happily go sit in her bed and chill on her own. Rumba is an enthusiastic walker and may pull on leash because she likes to walk at a brisk pace, but with some training and treats, we're confident that she'll learn loose-leash walking in no time. Rumba would also make a fun running buddy, as she is great at matching pace and loves to go, but she's generally just happy to be outside and walking. Rumba also appears to be interested and friendly with other dogs and is housetrained. Rumba is a lover-girl at heart, so don't miss out on this sweetheart!

Story
This is Cole, a nice young pup who's looking for a new start. He is a little shy of strangers at first, and may give you a spooky little bark. But if you show him some affection and some treats, he'll be your best friend pretty quickly. He loves lap time in the playroom, even though he's getting a little big for that! Cole is learning to walk on leash and is quickly getting the hang of it. He does not react to other dogs outside. Cole can be pretty high energy sometimes, like any respectable puppy. But he also settles nicely. We think he'll do well in just about any household, once he gets the lay of the land.

Rufus is a young lad with a lot of enthusiasm for life! He is friendly with people, though sometimes he gets a tad nervous on the first meeting. After that, he’s happy to get outside and walk with you. He’s a polite leash walker and does not react to other dogs, but he still has plenty of puppy energy. He also likes to keep moving. Rufus likes to chase balls but isn’t really sure what to do with them once he catches up to them. He loves human affection and will seek it out from anyone, once he’s out walking around. Rufus is a very good-natured guy who is sure to please just about any family. He’d love to continue his training in his forever home as soon as possible.

Beans is currently being schooled by a group of dogs at the Rescue Barn. Check out our Instagram page to see her in action. @badrap_advocacy

Story
Giles is a lover, not a fighter. He loves all humans including kids. He doesn't instigate fights with other dogs and is unbothered by reactive dogs during walks. Giles is very quiet and doesn't bark, but he will push boundaries to get what he wants, which is more love! Although he has entered his old man era and kind of just does a bit of what he wants, his dramatic stomping and huffing tantrums will test your limits. Giles does have basic obedience training and is also trained to not be on furniture without a command or invitation. Giles was found as a stray in Sacramento, California about 10 years ago and he's had a good life. He’s been a hard worker and a loyal companion. Giles deserves a good retirement home now, one with activities, kibble and canned food, lots of cuddles, and, I hope, regular visits from his first daddy. GILES IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION THROUGH ROCKET DOG RESCUE ! Please visit rocketdogrescue.org to learn more, schedule a meeting or adopt !

Babymouse is the sweetest girl on the planet. She’s only 8 weeks and loves to play and needs a lot of love and attention. Unfortunately, due to our busy schedule we cannot keep up and give her all the support she needs. She’s a very intelligent girl- knows sit, down, spin, and inside meaning inside her crate. She rarely has any accidents and uses her pee mat 90% of the time. She’s wonderful and would make a great addition to any family that can make space for her.

The Ever-so-Sweet Yasu !! -- We’re all a little obsessed about this baby-faced girl. Demure, unassuming, just under a year. She needed just a little self-esteem building when she came to us. Yay for good fun – the dog play parties here did the trick and she's ready for the real world. Now she’s a romping teen, she's very much in love with people, patient in her kennel, thrilled to see her dog friends. Basic obedience all dialed in. And DANG, is she pretty! Spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccines – All the good stuff. Drop us a line and tell us about your Wish List if that lovely face speaks to you.

I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereThis Dog is Available By Appointment Only Awww, Patti Smith makes our hearts melt. This cutie was frightened when she was found wandering in Oakland but seemed to want to be near people even if she was not so sure about them. With some patience and care, Patti Smith has come out of her shell in her foster home! She is a joy to be around. Her foster family reports that Patti enjoys long naps on the most comfortable surface she can find, has great leash manners (although sometimes there's a squirrel that she just can't resist), and is fully house trained. She has been left alone for up to five hours at a time and peacefully napped the whole time. She also enjoys car rides as long as there's a place for her to curl up and nap. You'll notice a theme here - sleeping is high on Patti's list of favorite activities! One of the cutest things she does is when she's given a new bone - she grunts and struts around the house to show it off before settling down to enjoy it. And when she's feeling herself, she'll roll around on the grass for fun. She is a sweet and mellow companion once she makes friends with people. Patti Smith has shown some nervousness around people she does not know trying to pet her, and will be best in a quiet home. She's about 90 pounds and would blossom even more in a warm, loving furever home (with comfy places to nap)! I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereMeet Sonja, the ultimate couch companion and snuggler. Though she loves lounging around the house, she also makes a great plus-one for all of your social outings. Sonja is a lively girl and is quick to tippy-tap her toes when she's excited, especially about her favorite foods like cream cheese, peanut butter or tuna. She is a great dance partner, and when it comes to dinner time or treating, she will impress you with her lady-like "sit" command. She can't resist soaking up the sun, and may even try to trick you into letting her out for a sunbathing session. Sonja is a very social and friendly dog who loves being surrounded by humans. She is well trained, housetrained, and is perfectly comfortable in a crate. She knows basic commands such as "sit," "down," and "stay." and is a polite and well-behaved house guest. She prefers to sleep on a bed with her humans, but is also content in a crate. She has met a wide variety of people of all ages and has done well with everyone. She would do best in a home with a well-fenced, sunny yard as she can get a little worked up around other animals. Ideal for Sonja to be an only pet in the home. She is well-behaved on a leash and enjoys shorter hikes, but tuckers out around 2 miles. Sonja is about 7 years old and 55 pounds. She is in a foster home, and you can reach out at sonja@jeffvier.com or see more of her (and message her) @sonjadog_oas on Instagram! Cuban is an extra large bully-breed mix who is the ultimate couch hippo, loving nothing more than lounging in comfort and soaking up all the love and affection he can get. Rather than going for walks, his favorite activity is relaxing in a comfy spot, quietly observing the world around him. While Cuban isn’t the biggest fan of exercise, he’s always content to be near you, happily taking in the world as it passes him. Occasionally, his stubborn side shows its face, especially when he decides he’s just not in the mood for a walk. But with a little (or a lot) love and encouragement, Cubanwill be back to trundling alongside you, ready to be guided back to his beloved bed. Cuban is seeking a home that appreciates his relaxed, easygoing nature and is ready to shower him with affection, knowing that he’ll always be your loyal companion, even if he doesn’t want to leave the house with you.

Kimbo is an extra-large bully mix, with a personality as big as his (almost) 120-pound frame. His impressive size and occasional stubborn streak can present a challenge, but his laid-back nature and affectionate personality make him well worth it. Though he walks well on a leash, Kimbo is still getting used to it and will need continued guidance to perfect his leash skills. He’s a master at claiming the comfiest spot in the house, and once settled, he’ll be the most relaxed and loyal buddy. With a little patience, Kimbo will quickly become a steadfast friend, offering his big heart and calm presence to win over anyone who meets him. He’s seeking a home that appreciates his unique qualities and is ready to give him all the love—and couch space—he deserves.
