Story
Sex: MaleBreed: PitbullEstimated Date of Birth : 04/02/2021Oh Ziggy! You are the sweetest most loyal boy. Your bond with those you know is unbreakable. You love harder than most dogs and because you love so hard you’re looking for an extra special family to call your own. You see it’s hard to love so much. Inevitably humans disappoint you and that’s exactly what we’re looking to prevent. We’re doing our best to find a family who will love you just as much as you love them. A family who isn’t afraid to help you build trust and a family who has the patience you need to succeed. You’ve succeeded with so many of our ranch crew. You’ve formed bonds so we know you can do it. That extra special family is out there and we hope we can find them. Ziggys life has been hard. It’s shaped him into the dog he is today. It’s made him scared and made trusting unknown people difficult. Ziggy came into Kern County Animal Services broken. He had a significant leg injury that had healed poorly causing a funny gait. But it was healed so no further medical procedures were needed. He was just going to walk funny. We have to wonder if his injury was caused by a person. He was so terrified right from the beginning. But slowly he learned to trust in foster care. Sadly his stay in a foster home was short lived. His fosters couldn’t hold on to him long term and he had no adoption interest. It seemed no one wanted a dog with a wonky walk and trust issues. Ziggy headed to our rescue ranch. He struggled with the change for awhile and we also noticed that his damaged leg seemed to be painful and causing him issues. His leg was evaluated by an orthopedic specialist and it was determined the only way to ease his pain was through amputation. Ziggy had his surgery and hasn’t looked back. He’s acclimated to tripod life beautifully. He’s also formed some pretty amazing bonds with our ranch staff. He’s super affectionate with those he knows and trusts and actually has a calm chill personality. He lives for games of fetch, is great on leash and adores laying in laps for endless amounts of pets. Ziggys biggest obstacle is that trust takes him awhile. He is terrified of strangers and it shows. It changes his whole demeanor. He can be reactive and his body shakes with his insecurity. The only way he’ll find adoption is if someone cares enough to give him the time he needs to feel secure. Sadly most people don’t want that kind of a project so dogs like Ziggy have a hard time finding homes. We are hopeful that just the right human sees his pictures, reads our words and decides that Ziggy is worth taking a chance on. That chance will positively change Ziggys life forever! Story
Sex: MaleBreed: PitbullEstimated Birth Date: 07/12/2018Jack is one good pup! But sadly he’s a bit of a nervous boy with unfamiliar dogs so ranch staff have been working on confidence building. Shy dogs are our jam! Why? Because once they’re out of their shell they’re seriously some of the best dogs. Jack is already a really good boy so building his confidence is only going to make him better. He’s already improved with consistent leash walking with other dogs and we feel confident with slow introductions and a bit of time he’s going to love new doggie friends. Jack came to us after the rescue he was with lost their facility. He needed a safe place to land and we could offer him that at our rescue ranch. He’s a lover of all people and has the best pittie smile ever!!! It seriously lights up his entire face. He’s fun and engaging and also a bit of a water dog so if you like water activities this big boy will be happy to join in. Jack is going to be the perfect addition to a lucky family! We really hope his big pittie grin pulls you in! If you are interested in adopting a Marley's Mutts please fill out an application at http://marleysmutts.org/adoptionprocess/

Story
Sex: MaleBreed: Pitbull Estimated Birth Date: 06/27/2018For Freedom Friday we’ve rescued a familiar face. A face that should never have re-entered the shelter system. A face whose look of betrayal will haunt us forever. This face speaks for the countless other faces with the same stories who will never have a voice, never have a 2nd Chance..…Boris was adopted from the Bakersfield City shelter in 2020 as a 1-2 year old dog. He was adopted the same year our Operations Manager, Conner Long, was employed with the city. He was memorable because he was such a good dog. An ambassador for his breed, making it out of the shelter through adoption. Fast forward to 2023. Boris was picked up as a stray by animal control. Conner Long is now employed with Marleys Mutts. Boris was chipped from the previous adoption so shelter staff tried to reach his family. His family chose not to respond. Boris the super great pittie who thought he had a 2nd Chance is now abandoned once again. At 5 years old he’s considered middle age. He’s lost his youth and lost years with a family who really didn’t care. He was desperate for his luck to change. That’s the thing about fate. Everything happens for a reason. Conner’s journey to us meant Boris’ journey wouldn’t end. This sweet boy was remembered and we couldn’t just leave him behind. He is safe and we promise he is wanted. Now we do the hard work of finding just the right home to give Boris the 2nd Chance he needed from the very beginning. Story
Sex: FemaleBreed: Pitbull Date of Birth : 07/31/2021The influx of moms and babies in shelters breaks our hearts but the pittie moms and babies break our hearts even more! They stand almost no chance of getting out of the shelter simply because of their breed and the sheer number of dogs needing help right now. If only people would stop producing puppies. If only people would educate themselves and not believe the stereotypes. If they’d do those two simple things more dogs like Barbara Mandell and her babies would have a future. What we noticed 1st about Barbara was how incredibly sweet and mellow she is. For us it made her stand out in the sea of dogs begging us to notice. She just looked at us with her big brown eyes pleading for us to see her. Pleading with us to give the 8 tiny lives she was responsible for the chance to live. We couldn’t say no. And what a fantastic momma this girl is! We couldn’t imagine if we hadn’t given her a chance. Currently she’s settled in at our ranch, caring for her puppies and getting use to the sights and sounds of ranch living. She loves people and has a very pleasant energy on leash. Barbara won’t be adoption ready for awhile, her momma duties come 1st, but we know it takes mom dogs longer to find homes so want to showcase her early in hopes her sweet face will capture just the right heart. Sex: FemaleBreed: PitbullEstimated Date of Birth : 08/17/2013What does it look like to be saved? We’re pretty sure if “saved” had a face this would be it! Jelly Roll is joyous! We’re not sure if we’ve ever met a dog so incredibly thankful to be alive. She’s absolutely ridiculous in the best way possible. She literally smiles and her happy go lucky nature is guaranteed to make you smile too. And this sweet girl has every reason to smile. So many dogs don’t get their 2nd Chance and seniors are almost always left behind in the shelter system but this chunky land hippo had her lucky day! We got her out and she’s blessed us with endless belly rubs and unlimited tail wags since day one. Jelly Roll is beyond friendly. Everyone is her very best friend both canine and human alike. She’s chill and easygoing and will be your new favorite lap warmer. She lives for every ounce of love you’re willing to give and she’s pretty much happy no matter what. Jelly Rolls previous family may have discarded her but we’ll make sure she knows her worth. She’s getting loads of attention at our ranch and we’re working to trim up her hippopotamus physique. If you didn’t already know how wonderful senior dogs can be Jelly Roll is here to show you they are AMAZING! This lovely lady has already melted our hearts and we know she’ll melt yours too. Story
Sex: MaleBreed: Pitbull xEstimated Date of Birth : 06/03/2023Phil was the sweetest pup in his litter. A litter that lingered at our city shelter. He grew up in the shelter system and sadly that doesn’t set young pups up for success. They miss out on the training and socialization opportunities all puppies need to thrive as adult dogs. Lucky for Phil we got him out and he headed into the Pawsitive Change program at North Kern State prison. He’ll spend the next 3 months learning everything he needs to be an amazing adult dog and gaining the socialization he lacked at the shelter. Under his trainers guidance he will learn skills to improve his adoptability and make him a happy well rounded dog. Phil and his siblings came very close to never having a chance at life. Because of their dark color and breed they lingered for months at our city shelter. They were growing up in shelter kennels and the smooth floors of those kennels were having a negative impact on their legs. Puppies need to run and play for appropriate growth and development and this crew needed out immediately! We put out pleas across social media and so many wonderful families stepped up to foster giving us room at our rescue ranch to pull Phil and his siblings. Phil and Pepe both scored the opportunity to go into Pawsitive Change! Phil loves all people and other dogs. He has a happy go lucky puppy personality and his time in prison will give him the structure, rules and boundaries all puppies need to grow into amazing adult dogs. We know he’s going to come out a rockstar and can’t wait to get him ready for adoption. If you’ve been looking for trained that’s exactly what Phil will be so apply to give this sweet boy the perfect family once he’s graduated Pawsitive Change! Story
We’d like to shine a light on a couple of adult large breed dogs dear to us with another small, local rescue Boxers Mutts & Wiggle Butts Rescue Please help share their dogs, give them a follow, and show them some of the amazing support you show us.❤️🐾❤️ First, we have Sookie! We first learned of Sookie 8 months ago. A property owner saw her and another dog thrown out of a pickup truck abandoned in the orchards. The man admitted to shooting at her several times. She was skin and bones when found. Unable to take her in ourselves, we offered to sponsor her food during her time in rescue. At the time we had donations from The Honest Kitchen and that was the best food to help her to gain weight and get back to being healthy. @boxersmuttsnwigglebuttsrescue have done an amazing job getting Sookie healthy and happy again. Sookie is a boxer, 3.5 years old. She LOVES belly rubs but she’s no couch potato, she’d prefer being your running buddy. She knows sit, wait, come, crate and potty trained. She’s great with kids and is gentle with toys. Reach out to her rescue to learn more! 🐾❤️ Get to know Sookie and we are sure she will win your heart. Here is a little bit about her: * LOVES people, adults and kids * very high energy * needs to be the only dog. Not dog/cat friendly * knows sit * knows wait * comes when called * crate trained * is soft with toys and learning fetch * Loooves belly rubs

Story
Annie needs to be an only dog, she recently got into altercations with a few other dogs in our home. She is amazing with kids and people, she LOVES toys and to go swimming. It breaks my heart to rehome her but unfortunately I can no longer keep her, she has to be in the room most of the time and it’s not fair to her anymore. I have tried for over a year to try and correct this behavior and it’s not working.
