Story
•Meet Harper••• • She is approximately 6 years old • weighs about 65lbs. •She is very active and enjoys water, walks and hikes. • Treadmill trained •She is crate trained and does well in the house. ••smaller animals are not recommended. We call her Happy Harper. She has a very bubbly personality and loves to do anything fun... swimming is definitely one of her strong loves. Once she knows you she loves you but not in a smushy way. She loves pets and kisses and definitely wants to be where you are. But she is not needy etc... give her something to play with or play ball etc with her and she’s happy. She is crate trained and does very well on a treadmill. A few minutes a day or a couple days a week. Harper is very pretty with beautiful gold eyes. She loves, people, car rides and adventures. She loves water. Her favorite thing is to swim with her human. The good thing about Harper, •she is intelligent and catches on quickly. •Loves to please and will work for rewards. • Very athletic and would make a great running companion. Plenty of energy to keep up. Harper is ready for her new home. The adoption fee is $200 and includes being vaccinated, spayed and microchipped. We prefer she is not placed in a household with smaller dogs and cats. She is good with children but does not like sudden quickness in her direction so we think she needs to be in a home with children who are good with dogs, 10 and older. for any questions or a meet and greet please email haltrescue@gmail.com with Harper in the subject line

Story
Patty came to us June 20th from City of Bakersfield Animal Car Center. Hi! My name is Patty and I'm a little pittie girl, so they call me Pittie Patty, of course! I'm a super sweet, loving, cuddly girl, and I could let you rub my belly all day long. I love playing with my buds here at the ranch and can really zoom when I'm in the groove. I enjoy playing with my ball and chewin’ on bones. I especially love treats and food! So much so that I can almost knock ya over for some snacks. So I've been working on being polite for my food or treats and the humans say I'm doing a lot better! I'm crate trained, know to potty outside, know some commands like sit and down, I'm doing pretty well with place training, and am great on leash! If you have a sweet tooth and are craving some Patty Cake, then I'm the girl for you!... as long as you share some cake with me too.

Story
Sex: MaleBreed: PitbullEstimated Date of Birth : 04/02/2021Oh Ziggy! You are the sweetest most loyal boy. Your bond with those you know is unbreakable. You love harder than most dogs and because you love so hard you’re looking for an extra special family to call your own. You see it’s hard to love so much. Inevitably humans disappoint you and that’s exactly what we’re looking to prevent. We’re doing our best to find a family who will love you just as much as you love them. A family who isn’t afraid to help you build trust and a family who has the patience you need to succeed. You’ve succeeded with so many of our ranch crew. You’ve formed bonds so we know you can do it. That extra special family is out there and we hope we can find them. Ziggys life has been hard. It’s shaped him into the dog he is today. It’s made him scared and made trusting unknown people difficult. Ziggy came into Kern County Animal Services broken. He had a significant leg injury that had healed poorly causing a funny gait. But it was healed so no further medical procedures were needed. He was just going to walk funny. We have to wonder if his injury was caused by a person. He was so terrified right from the beginning. But slowly he learned to trust in foster care. Sadly his stay in a foster home was short lived. His fosters couldn’t hold on to him long term and he had no adoption interest. It seemed no one wanted a dog with a wonky walk and trust issues. Ziggy headed to our rescue ranch. He struggled with the change for awhile and we also noticed that his damaged leg seemed to be painful and causing him issues. His leg was evaluated by an orthopedic specialist and it was determined the only way to ease his pain was through amputation. Ziggy had his surgery and hasn’t looked back. He’s acclimated to tripod life beautifully. He’s also formed some pretty amazing bonds with our ranch staff. He’s super affectionate with those he knows and trusts and actually has a calm chill personality. He lives for games of fetch, is great on leash and adores laying in laps for endless amounts of pets. Ziggys biggest obstacle is that trust takes him awhile. He is terrified of strangers and it shows. It changes his whole demeanor. He can be reactive and his body shakes with his insecurity. The only way he’ll find adoption is if someone cares enough to give him the time he needs to feel secure. Sadly most people don’t want that kind of a project so dogs like Ziggy have a hard time finding homes. We are hopeful that just the right human sees his pictures, reads our words and decides that Ziggy is worth taking a chance on. That chance will positively change Ziggys life forever! Story
Sex: MaleBreed: PitbullEstimated Birth Date: 07/12/2018Jack is one good pup! But sadly he’s a bit of a nervous boy with unfamiliar dogs so ranch staff have been working on confidence building. Shy dogs are our jam! Why? Because once they’re out of their shell they’re seriously some of the best dogs. Jack is already a really good boy so building his confidence is only going to make him better. He’s already improved with consistent leash walking with other dogs and we feel confident with slow introductions and a bit of time he’s going to love new doggie friends. Jack came to us after the rescue he was with lost their facility. He needed a safe place to land and we could offer him that at our rescue ranch. He’s a lover of all people and has the best pittie smile ever!!! It seriously lights up his entire face. He’s fun and engaging and also a bit of a water dog so if you like water activities this big boy will be happy to join in. Jack is going to be the perfect addition to a lucky family! We really hope his big pittie grin pulls you in! If you are interested in adopting a Marley's Mutts please fill out an application at http://marleysmutts.org/adoptionprocess/

Story
Sex: FemaleBreed: Pitbull Date of Birth : 07/31/2021The influx of moms and babies in shelters breaks our hearts but the pittie moms and babies break our hearts even more! They stand almost no chance of getting out of the shelter simply because of their breed and the sheer number of dogs needing help right now. If only people would stop producing puppies. If only people would educate themselves and not believe the stereotypes. If they’d do those two simple things more dogs like Barbara Mandell and her babies would have a future. What we noticed 1st about Barbara was how incredibly sweet and mellow she is. For us it made her stand out in the sea of dogs begging us to notice. She just looked at us with her big brown eyes pleading for us to see her. Pleading with us to give the 8 tiny lives she was responsible for the chance to live. We couldn’t say no. And what a fantastic momma this girl is! We couldn’t imagine if we hadn’t given her a chance. Currently she’s settled in at our ranch, caring for her puppies and getting use to the sights and sounds of ranch living. She loves people and has a very pleasant energy on leash. Barbara won’t be adoption ready for awhile, her momma duties come 1st, but we know it takes mom dogs longer to find homes so want to showcase her early in hopes her sweet face will capture just the right heart. Story
Sex: FemaleBreed: Pit BullEstimated Date of Birth : 10/11/2014Even older dogs can learn new tricks and sweet sweet Bailey is going to show you how it’s done! This girl is spry, active and will probably show all the younger pups up on her Pawsitive Change journey. We know she’s going to succeed and we know she’s going to make a ton of friends along the way. Who doesn’t love an adorable senior land hippo. We know we do and Baileys had some pretty amazing humans in her corner on her rescue journey. As a senior dog and pitbull Bailey had very little chance of making it out of the high volume Carson shelter alive. She wasn’t going to stand out in the sea of younger dogs also vying for homes. But she had a Guardian Angel working on her release. Senior pups in shelters is almost always a death sentence. For unknown reasons Bailey was surrendered by her family after giving them her loyalty for 9 years. 9 years almost thrown away but we are so thankful for kind humans and networking cause Bailey got her big break. Bailey has joined the crew going into North Kern State Prison. With her awesome people and dog to dog skills she’s going to teach those young pups a few things. During her 3 month program she’ll be looking for the perfect family to live out her retirement years. A family with no cats or small animals who will cherish her the way her 1st family should have. If you love the kindness a senior dog brings to a home please consider giving Bailey her forever. Story
Sex: FemaleBreed: PitbullEstimated Date of Birth : 11/14/2020Velvet Hippo has our heart! She’s the sweetest girl in the universe and the very reason we love pitties so much! She loves people and will greet every single person she meets with a big ole pittie grin and an invitation to pet her velvety body. Shes happiest when she’s giving and receiving love. She longs to sit as close to you as possible and is determined to be your very own oversized lapdog if you’ll let her. If that doesn’t totally melt your heart the way she cared for her babies will. She was a great mom! Good momma dogs are often excellent family dogs as they bring that caring and nurturing nature to the home. We have a feeling that’s exactly what this sweet girl will do. She’s going to totally win your heart and take over your couch. Can you believe such a sweet girl almost didn’t make it out of the shelter alive? She was euthanasia listed because she was very protective of her babies. What mom wouldn’t be in a shelter environment? It’s loud, it’s scary, the smell of fear and death surrounds them and their only job is to protect the tiny souls they just brought into this world. We saw past her defensive nature and got her and all 9 babies out and to the safety of our ranch. Guess what happened then? A few days in a calm and safe environment uncovered the sweetest momma on the planet. She just wanted to make sure her babies were safe and then she showed us who she really was a big ole mushy lover. Our Velvet Hippo is such a love. Her soft eyes pull you in and then the pittie wiggles start. She’s a ranch staff favorite and now that her motherhood duties are complete she’ll finally get to focus on herself and work towards having the life she should have had from the beginning. Ranch staff are working on basic obedience skills and her leash manners. She’s a strong girl and has a tendency to pull and plow through things in her search for more attention. She loves toys of all shapes and sizes, outside time and all the soft warm spaces she can find. Shes perfect in her crate and takes treats super gentle like the lady she is. Her future family will be getting the biggest love bug with a heart of gold. If you love the underdogs, if you love the kind energy of a mom you won’t want to let this girl pass you by. Get your application in and let’s give Velvet Hippo the most amazing of homes.
