She first came to us as a stray on 9/22 after roaming the area for several weeks. Though never reclaimed, it was clear she had been cared for before — she arrived in good condition and had previously had a litter. Clara recently spent time in a home, where she showed just how special she is. She is housebroken, crate trained, walks nicely on leash, rides calmly in the car, and knows how to settle into a routine. She’s especially affectionate with the people she trusts, leaning in for snuggles, nudging for more pets, and happily curling up close. Once she bonds, she bonds deeply. The shelter environment can be overwhelming for Clara, and she does best in calm, predictable settings. She’s a sensitive girl who appreciates a slower pace and thoughtful introductions, particularly with new people. Given time and space, she opens up beautifully and shows her gentle, loving personality. Hello, I’m Hazel, a 5-year-old American Bulldog mix with a white and tan coat and a big smile. I’m a playful and sweet girl who loves to have fun and cuddle with my people. I’m spayed, vaccinated, and heartworm negative. I’m house and crate trained, but I need some help learning to walk better on a leash. I get so excited to go for walks, and I’m very strong which means I can pull hard. I need an owner who can handle me and teach me some manners. I’m good with older children and other dogs, especially mellow ones. We don’t know how I feel about cats, but I can be cat-tested if you want. I have a lot of energy and I like to run around and play with balls. But I also like to relax and nap in my own space. I have a large kennel where I feel comfortable and safe. I don’t like to be outdoors for too long, I prefer to be inside with my people. I’m afraid of being abandoned, so I don’t like to go far from home. I have some digestive issues, so I need a special diet of lamb and rice. I also need to be crated when I’m not supervised, because I can chew on things. I’m a big girl, about 77 pounds, and I can be clumsy sometimes. I would not do well with small kids, because I might knock them over. But if you are used to large dogs, you will love me. I’m a gentle giant who just wants to be loved. I have a lot of potential and I’m ready to show you what a great dog I can be. Hi there, I'm Jace, a white and brown bulldog mix. I'm 55 pounds and as sweet as ever. I love nothing more than to snuggle up next to somebody and get belly rubs and head scratches. I'm also smart and have been working on sit, down, and leave it. I could learn more commands as I'm a motivated learner. Anything for a treat! My favorite toys include a Kong filled with kibble or peanut butter, bones, and stuffed animals. I like to play fetch (although I don’t always want to give the ball back) and tug of war! I would do great as somebody’s best friend. I like to follow you around the house and chill with you. I’m a goober! I don’t quite understand my size and will try to sit directly in your lap just to be close. I'm working potty and crate training but walk great on the leash. I'm not good with dogs, likely out of fear rather than true aggression. I was chained in a yard for most of my life before I was rescued. I was nothing but skin and bones from starvation which has now caused me to guard my food. I love cats except if they come around my food. One side of my face will never fill in due to what the vet thinks is an old injury, but that doesn't stop me from being a cuddly lover. I am neutered and vaccinated. I was heartworm positive, but I've completed treatment. I'm currently in Hampton, VA but I can be transported out of state for the right home. Hi there, I’m Tommy, a 4-year-old, 60 lb., American Bulldog mix. I have a handsome white coat with a brown left ear that makes me stand out from the crowd. I’m a friendly and loyal boy who loves people and attention. I came from Miami-Dade, Florida in 2020, thanks to Operation Save a Shelter Dog. They rescued me from the streets when I was very skinny and hungry, and a big storm was coming. They gave me a second chance at life and I’m so grateful for that. I’m a smart and obedient boy who knows basic commands and walks well on a leash. I’m also crate-trained and housebroken. I love treats and I’m very food motivated, which helps motivate me when training. I’m always eager to please my humans and get praised for being a good boy. I have some issues with other animals, though. Because of my past, I can be reactive to other dogs. I’ve been working on this, and I can tolerate dogs in small doses, but I need slow and careful introductions. I also have a strong prey drive, so I can’t live with small dogs, cats, or other critters. I need to be your only pet, please. I also guard my food, so I eat in my crate where I can feel safe. I’m fine with treats, though. I’m good with older children who I can goof around with that will also play nicely with me. I love to goof around and have fun.
