Story
** $ 530 in pledges for the rescue that pulls ** Meet Marshall, a sweet 8-year-old senior who was surrendered to the shelter with another dog when their owner could no longer care for them. His owner had him for 7 years and described him as active, noting that he enjoys running and chasing squirrels. Marshall has shown low to medium energy at the shelter, but based on his owner's notes, adopters should be prepared for him to possibly become a higher-energy pup in a home environment. He has had good meets with other dogs at the shelter, and while he previously lived with children, we recommend that any children in the home be over the age of 13. He will need to meet any children or other dogs in the home. Although he has been a bit confused and shut down since arriving, Marshall warms up once he gets to know you. He loves treats and butt scratches, and with a little time, we're hopeful his personality will continue to shine. Marshall is seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter. BEHAVIOR: Per Volunteer 11/3/24: He was loose and wagging his tail when I approached his kennel. He's very easy on leash with just some slight pulling. When walking outside he got spooked by sudden noises like sirens or motorcycles. He took to me pretty quickly! Enjoyed Getting pets from me and had very loose body language. Chased after toys but didn't fetch them back. He was pretty active in the play yard for an older boy and enjoyed romping around! No issues going back in and we walked by a few other dogs and he remained very calm Per staff 10/31/24: Good walk, was very calm today. Per volunteer 10/28/24: For the first 15 minutes I spent with Marshall, he mostly ignored me. Instead, he focused on going to the bathroom and sniffing his environment. I tried to get his attention with treats. He would accept the treats I offered him, but he would then go back to sniffing around. After about 15 min of spending time together, he finally approached me for attention. Marshall allowed me to pet and scratch him all over, and he then would lean into me or nuzzle me for more attention. Marshall began to express a sweet, calm and gentle personality. He sat nicely for treats and ignored other dogs through the fence. Marshall walked at a slow pace and never pulled on the leash. He seems very housetrained. I had no issue leashing him to take him out of the kennel, and I had no problem returning him. Marshall is a wonderful boy and I enjoyed the time I spent with him. Per volunteer 10/27/24: Shy, playful. Very chill/low energy but is full of love. Per volunteer 10/20/24: Marshall is a little on the timid side. He was distracted by the smells and sounds and seemed nervous on our walk. I took him to a quieter area and he relaxed a bit but still was looking all around. He likes hot dogs and takes treats pretty well. He knows sit and will do so for some tasty treats. He enjoyed some chin scratches and I found out that he really likes butt scratches. He did good meeting a dog through the fence. 10/19/24 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: KNOWN HISTORY: Owner surrender KENNEL PRESENTATION: Marshall was standing by the door just staring with neutral eyes and a stiff body. I tried to loosen him up with treats and baby talk but he ignored me and continued to stare forward. I reached in with the leash and put his head right through, coming out as soon as he was secured. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally HANDLING: Marshall came into the eval room with a tense body and neutral face. He walked around the eval room sniffing and ignoring the handlers at first. He did not want to come up for treats or baby talk. With some time and the occasional touch, he allowed some more handling and even would solicit for booty rubs. He loves scratches and just like Sage he takes lots of time to warm up. He knows sit and paw, and will take treats nicely. He is a very kind and sweet boy and needs some treats and patience. He allowed most handling but did not like his toes being touched and pulled them away very quickly. PLAY: Minimal interest TOYS: Minimal interest MEDICAL: On 10/29, Marshall had an exam for his skin and ear issues, as well as having blood in his stool. He was bright, alert, and responsive, and allowed all handling needed for the exam. He only had mild debris in his ears, with a few scars, but no signs of skin infections or inflammation. He was coughing during the exam, but his lungs sounded clear. On 10/21, Marshall was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold and started on medication. On 10/28, his symptoms were worsening with concern for progression to pneumonia, so another medication was added. During his intake exam on 10/18, Marshall was 51 pounds, had mild dental calculus, and his eyes and nose were clear. His ears were inflamed, with waxy debris, and he had inflamed skin with thin fur. He was quiet, alert, and responsive during his exam. Story
This is my boy Kane. He’s 3 years old and a very sweet family dog. Times have gotten hard and we’re moving to a place that doesn’t accept animals. So we cannot keep him. All places around us are full to surrender him. So we’re kind of stuck. Staying in a hotel with my 4 children until I can find him another home. It’s very expensive staying here and I would like him to be adopted as quickly as possible. He’s very lovable and if you have children they will love him quickly also. He likes to be clean and loves a good rub with coconut oil or tee tree oil once he’s been bathed. We will all miss him and I pray that another family will love him up the same as we did.

Story
Doug is a young, large, puppy-like dog who would benefit from socialization and training, but who wouldn’t? His new home should be experienced with dogs and should have the time and energy to dedicate to Doug’s exercise needs and training. Any potential doggie-housemates would require a meet and greet. If you like large breed dogs, Doug is your guy! Hamilton Township Animal Shelter cannot offer any guarantees on the age, health, temperament, personality or mental disposition of any pet. Story
Mardi! This adorable and sweet 3-4 yr old squishy american bulldog/boxer type mix is Mardi. Mardi has quite the story that her foster mom will try to share here. Mardi is too humble to tell it herself, and we also don't want to live in the past, however we think it is important for people to know to help understand how incredibly special, resilient and forgiving Mardi is. Mardi first came to our rescue in Feb 2024, when she ended up at a local shelter as a suspected cruelty/neglect case. She had significant infected, deep bite wounds on her neck and face, was underweight and in terrible condition. She was also snuggly and loving with a (broken) tail that wagged every time you gave her a kind word or a soft touch. Since that time she has healed physically and unless you look closely for any of the remaining scars you wouldn't know. Mardi was adopted from us about a month ago but recently returned due to some pretty unrealistic expectations her adopter had. Mardi is a one dog home kind of girl. She does not want to live with other dogs, or cats. She thinks she is all you need, and she is probably right. She will make sure if you need dog hugs, kisses or someone to pet she will be right there. Sometimes she knows it before you do. Although Mardi has done ok in public settings where other dogs are (ie at a brewery) she sometimes needs to be reminded to mind her manners and be distracted, and she does not want to interact with other dogs. Her foster mom has found her easy to manage in public settings, but would also recommend something like a reactive dog class might help an adopter learn to interrupt any barking. Mardi absolutely loves any person she has met while in our care. She is great with kids, and has been around kids 4+, although she may accidentally knock over very small ones with her love and the way she leans in to you. Although her foster mom loves Mardi very much and has only the best things to say, she does have other dogs and as such feels bad that Mardi does not get as much time and attention as she deserves, She deserves to be the center of someone's universe. Mardi is good on a leash and mostly just wants to stick near her people, but she also says she enjoys her foster mom's fully fenced in yard. She likes to hang out nearby (we often read together outside on nice days) and will gently nudge your hand with her nose so you know she is nearby, but she is also happy to go sniff and adventure in the yard and keep herself occupied. Although she thinks she can catch the bold bunnies in the yard (so far, no luck thankfully) she is a master of catching, and eating, bugs. She is just a happy girl who occupies herself. Mardi is low to medium energy and happy to hang out and be quiet when you are working, but also very happy to be invited on any adventures. She loves car rides, although I would suggest tethering her as she will try to steal your Starbucks when you aren't looking. Live and learn, foster mom. She is crate trained and housebroken and just a really nice, easy dog. We would recommend crating her when not supervised as she will counter surf looking for any goodies. It is a good incentive to keep a really clean kitchen and bare counters! She knows sit and we are working on down and wait. Mardi is fully up to date on vet care. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. She is up to date on preventatives and wellness. Interested? Please go to www.dogtownrescue.org to complete an online application for Mardi. An approved application and scheduled appointment are required to meet Mardi.
