Story
Little lovebug COLT is looking for his forever family!
Colt is the happiest, most friendly, goofy and snuggle boy you'll meet! Colt lives for getting attention from his people and making them laugh! He's a happy go lucky boy who loves being included in everything! Colt is a bit nosey too - even if you want a little personal space, he doesn't really know what that means!
Colt's ideal family wants to adopt a dog to be the center of their world! He lives to please his people... even if he doesn't always know what that means! Colt loves giving kisses, offering his bum up for bum rubs, and falling over for belly rubs. He offers a lot of appeasement behaviours like giving paw... which his foster home is working on curbing because sometimes he can accidentally scratch or paw too hard!
Colt is a 0 to 100 kind of guy - he enjoys sprinting around the yard, has learned to walk well on leash with a prong collars or gentle leader, and then loves to snuggle up on the couch. He is initially excited when his people wake up or come home from work, but calms down quickly if his people are calm. If his people get him riled up, prepare for zoomies! Despite his initial energy, Colt is a real snuggle bug who wants to nap with his head on your lap on the couch, or be right beside you while you're cooking!
Colt would thrive in an only-pet home. While he is capable of making friends with other large breed dogs, and currently lives with 3 other dogs, he would really do best being the center of his people's attention and get all their love! Colt is insecure meeting another dogs and shows tense body language, whale eyes, and a high tail. With very slow and proper introductions he can learn to relax around well balanced calm dogs, but he is such a people-oriented boy that we feel he would do best getting spoiled as an only-pet. Colt is too easily adrenalized around small animals, and needs a home without cats or small animals. He would do best in a detached home as well, as apartment building hallways and elevators can be unpredictable. He also resource guards around other animals, and is currently being fed separately without food or toys between him and his foster brothers.
Colt loves food and loves to please, although he can be a slow learner sometimes. He does well with marker training, and having a patient handler who gives him time to figure out commands. He is working at duration during training, and not giving paw when excited. He has made so much progress on not jumping up, his leash skills, and sitting and waiting to be calm at doors before going outside. While Colt's training is coming along very nicely, we don't think he'll ever be obedient off-leash. Colt needs responsible owners who will not let him roam off leash, visit dog parks, or put him in situations that set him up for failure. Colt is looking for a forever home who will continue his training to help him become the best version of himself!
Although Colt loves all people of all sizes, he would do best in an adult-only home where he can be the baby!! Not only does Colt want all of his furever home's time and attention, he can be a bit rambunctious at times and cause accidental injuries to small people with his happy wagging but strong tail, by giving paw at his people and smacking them, and by leaning on people for attention. If visiting small people or seniors, it may be best to keep Colt on leash to manage the amount of love that he gives people who might not be as stable on their feet!
Colt's previous life was one of neglect, but we're looking to give him the best forever home who will spoil him endlessly! This big love bug loves belly rubs, kisses and just being beside his people. He is incredibly affectionate and wins over everybody that he meets!
Colt is being fostered in Flamborough, Ontario.
