FOSTER OR FOSTER-TO-ADOPT M | 4 | American Bully mix | Neutered | UTD | 74 lbs | Fostered in Burlington, ON If you want a dog that will love you from an inch away, he’s your guy. If you love walks, he’s your guy. If you want a dog who loves food as much as you do, he’s definitely your guy. Everybody comments on how handsome he is, and they are right! Griffin is a typical bully, loves his people, and is strong, smart & stubborn. Griffin currently lives with two cats and though he doesn’t bother with the one but will chase the other on occasion and is always closely monitored. He doesn’t know his size and is likely to knock over small children, so older children would be best. Griffin likes to protect his people and will bark and growl at strangers if they approach his person while he’s on leash. Allowing him to maintain his personal space and redirecting works well. Griffin is very dog selective and is leash reactive. Slow introductions are absolutely necessary with all dogs and he typically does better with female dogs and does not like unfixed males. When Griffin has decided he likes another dog he LOVES to play, he is like the energizer bunny and can play forever. Griffin is loyal to his pack, once he’s decided you’re in, you’ll be in forever. He is incredibly powerful and if you give him an inch he will take a mile. He needs a strong handler and someone who is willing and able to continue with his training and who can be consistent, he’s a very smart boy and highly food motivated! Griffin is currently working on impulse control and furthering his obedience. In his new home Griffin will need an outlet for his physical AND mental energy to keep him calm and happy.  If interested in having Griffin join your family as either a foster or potentially a permanent resident, please apply here: Adoption Information (hankshaven.ca)    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 13, 2025, 12:45 pm

Story
M | 7 | American Bulldog mix | Neutered | UTD | Fostered in North York, ON I am a cuddle bug who just wants to be with his people, a stage 5 clinger and follows foster mom everywhere all day and just wants to be wherever she is. I love to chill on the couch but when someone comes in the door, I get super excited and will jump up to greet you. I love all toys, especially balls, car rides, food and going for walks, though I am very strong and will pull. I am crate trained, though am so well behaved that my fosters don’t put me in it, but I do still need a crate as I use it as my safe place and somewhere to go when I need a break. I lost my first home when my human suddenly died, and the second home didn’t work out so this time I am looking for my furever home where I can retire and live happily ever after. Though I currently live with kids, I think a home without them or have older and respectful ones who know when to give me alone time is best. A human who is home often would be great and if there is another dog, a big one that likes to play hard and keep up is ideal, but I am fine without one as well. I need a quiet home with a strong handler who understand bullies and isn’t intimated by my personality. I need someone to snuggle and love me and to make me their whole world, is that too much to ask for? If Wilson is a great fit, make sure to apply for him here: Adoption Information (hankshaven.ca) *Wilson is being fostered in North York* Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 12, 2025, 4:21 pm

Story
F | approx. 2 | Bulldog mix | Spayed | UTD | Dog and People friendly | Fostered in Orillia, ON Honey is pure perfection and her name suits her because of it. She is literally as sweet as Honey. She LOVES to cuddle and will try and curl as close to you/on you as possible. When she is with her people she has a permanent smile and you can’t help but smile too. She exudes pure joy in every aspect of her life now (she was pulled from the shelter not too long ago where she wasn’t thriving). She just wants to please her people - She is going to make someone very happy. Her foster mom thinks she’d excel as a sport dog. As long as she’s with us she will get to try out some sports with her foster mom. Her foster mom also had this to say about her, “If we didn’t have a cat and the cat didn’t hate her she would be staying. She is THAT perfect.” Dog friendly? Honey has had exposure to both small and big dogs. She can become reactive and mouthy so we feel she’ll do best with lower energy and balanced dogs. When playing with other dogs she should be monitored  Honey IS reactive to other dogs she doesn’t know and needs proper introductions. She is unsure and that is where her reactivity comes from. We are working on her confidence building and socialization and she is becoming much better. Cat friendly? &#226&#157&#140 she has been exposed to a cat in her foster home and she displayed an intense prey drive and feel she would do best in a cat-free home  Kid friendly? &#226&#157&#140 because of Honey’s prey drive and behaviour around things that move fast it is not recommended  People and strangers Honey has met men and women and been fine. She is very friendly towards people and LOVES her people intensely. House trained &#226&#156&#133  Crate trained &#226&#156&#133  Honey is crate and house trained and has learned basic obedience. While she is with her foster she will continue to be exposed to other levels of training including clicker, pattern games and other confidence building games Honey loves to snuggle but will happily sleep in the crate and go in the crate when left home alone.  Leash manners Honey walks well on a leash and is learning to manage her reactivity on leash quite well. Car rides? Honey is awesome in a car however due to her anxiety she does become heightened in new places. She is continually being exposed to new situations and places to help her through her anxiety. Honey is extremely food motivated and loves training. She also loves tug-of-war and de-stuffing stuffed animals (common terrier trait!)  No food aggression or toy aggressive noticed Honey eats her meals and high value treats in her crate. She plays nicely with other dogs with toys  Energy Level:  She is a medium/high energy dog. She has a good “off” button but when she is ON she is on. She needs an experienced owner who understands the terrier breed, their needs and can ensure she stays safe and her needs are met and boundaries respected.   **Honey has pretty severe allergies. When she came to us she was bald and splotchy. She is now strictly fed raw, no feathers and also receives an allergy supplement and is being weaned off of Apoquel. There is a chance she may have to stay on Apoquel, we won’t know until she is done being weaned** Honey is being fostered in Orillia - any potential adopters need to be able and willing to travel to Orillia for meet and greets  https://www.hankshaven.ca/animals/browse?Status=AvailableVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 11, 2025, 4:20 pm

Story
F | 1 year 9 months | American Bulldog | spayed | UTD | Fostered in Orillia, ON  Storm is the most beautiful dog EVER, but she is also just as sweet. Imagine if she still had her floppy ears? they would be so droopy and squishy just like her chops. She thinks she is a lap dog and LOVES to snuggle. She is extremely food motivated which has made training her extremely enjoyable. She is up for almost any adventure and would love to spend every minute with you if she could. But she is also content to chill in her crate while the world goes on around her.  Dog friendly? Storm has been exposed to other dogs and a cat. She is reactive to dogs that are not neutral and due to her size and lack of socialization she should not be in a home with ANY small animal, including cats. She will play with another neutral dog and has made huge strides in her socialization since first coming into our care  Cat friendly? &#226&#157&#140 no cats or small animals  Kid friendly? &#226&#157&#140 No and not recommended due to her size and continuing training required. People / stranger friendly? She is fine with women, but strange men she will do an alert bark. She has been working on this and treats are the way to her heart so she warms up quickly. Storm was EXTREMELY undersocialized during her 1st (and most critical) year. Coupled with some bad experiences, these things have lead to a wave of emotions from her when she meets new dogs and people. She has come a long way, but she needs slow introductions with new dogs and people. She is also learning how to play properly with other dogs and this needs to continue to be a part of her training journey as she has made huge strides in matching another dogs play language and energy, but can become over aroused so its essential her human be there monitoring to ensure she never goes over threshold and her interactions continue to be positive. House trained &#226&#156&#133  Crate trained &#226&#156&#133  Basic obedience training &#226&#156&#133  Amazing recall &#226&#156&#133  Storm is currently working with a professional trainer as well as her foster on her continued reactive dog training and she will be attending training classes as well. Leash manners? They are good but could be better. She is continually being worked with on her leash manners. Car rides? &#226&#156&#133 Amazing in the car. She loves it. She does well in new places and is not anxious.  She LOVES to do all types of training as she is VERY food motivated. She loves to play fetch and will bring it back to you. She loves stuffies and destuffing them as well. Food or toy aggression? She is fed in her crate and while humans can take things from her, she will react poorly if another dog or animal comes near her food or high value item (all of which she gets in her crate). Energy level? Low/medium *Storm recently had surgery to remove a blockage. She should not be left unattended to play with soft toys / stuffies Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 12, 2025, 1:24 pm
