Story
Jack is extremely smart, he learns to do tricks in just a couple of days. He is house trained, knows sit and stay. He listens really well and has the sweetest demeanor. He wants to be a lap dog and will try to sit in your lap, he has no idea how big he is. He loves toys and even more if they have a squeaker in them. He is about 2 years old and is very calm and relaxes when his humans are relaxing, but is ready to go when you are. He likes chasing the ball and is learning how to catch it in mid air, will bring it back and knows drop so you can throw it again. He can stay home by himself and just likes to looks outside waiting for your return. He was found abandoned on side of highway and is currently fostered with a family who has 2 smaller dogs. He was neutered recently and shots are up to date. All he needs is a loving home and family who can give him a safe place to be himself.

Story
DOG DAY OUT PARTICIPANTS: Staff noted that I have a high pray drive so I do not do well with cats. Please do not take me to a place where we may encounter some small feline friends. I enjoy long walks or runs, lots of belly rubs and overall being outside. Thank you for considering me for your dog day out adventure. INSIGHTS FROM MY DOG DAY OUT:`Bilal was a joy to spend the day with! He was very polite in the car and knew “sit”, “treat”, and “walk”. He was amazing on the leash - didn’t pull and wasn’t phased by squirrels or other people. Although we walked 3.5 miles, I could tell he is a couch potato at heart and would be happy just snuggling with his human! He definitely has that sweet pitty personality!``Bilal was such a cool guy!! We walked up to UNC where he got lots of pets from students. We sat on the quad and he napped while I got some school work done. He was fantastic the entire day. He did well for the car rides. He was strong around the shelter likely from all the stress and energy of it, but once he got out at my apartment for the walk to campus, he didn’t pull on the leash at all. He didn’t react to humans, children, or other dogs. He was super friendly and LOVED the attention from students. At one point he had about seven people petting him and was flopped over on his belly soaking up all the love. I’ve worked with pit bulls and similar breeds many times and he was by far the most relaxed and well behaved. He knows the sit command and responded well to “leave it” when passing squirrels. Though he enjoyed the walk, he got lazy at the end and was practically dragging his paws. He is a couch potato at heart and enjoys snuggling up next to humans for pets. He also took treats gently and was unfazed by students petting and squishing his face, so I believe he would do great addition to any family.``Had such a fun day with sweet sweet Bilal. We went on a nice walk through my neighborhood, which thoroughly tired him out! He was happy to come back and relax on the couch, while also getting lots of lots of love from my roommates. We then went to go get some coffee and take a walk through campus, where Bilal got even more love! He was such an easy walker, did not pull or react to other dogs

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All dogs on the Best Friend Pet Adoption  website ARE available and require an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application before you can be considered or meet any of our dogs.  The link to our application is   https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC      Pluto is an affectionate, 70 pound, neutered male dog.  Pluto is very sweet, healthy, and happy. He is up-to-date on his vaccinations and the vet estimates his age as 6 years old.   Pluto is great with people (including kids) and most dogs. His favorite things include pets, cuddles, naps, and chew toys. He keeps himself entertained but will chase after toys and gets excited when we take him for walks or on a drive.    Pluto plays well with our other dogs, however, we have noticed that he can be possessive  over toys if boundaries are not set. He is house-trained and not possessive over food. He is quiet and will only briefly bark when we have a package or visitor. He will use the bathroom in a fenced yard or on a leash.  He has met one cat. He was not aggressive but seems to have a prey drive so he would do best in a home without cats. He is fine in the yard with our chickens even without supervision. We feel Pluto could be with other dogs or as an only dog.   Pluto is crate trained; however, he does not need a crate. He prefers to be out of his crate. He is well mannered so he is allowed to free roam even when we are not home.  He knows where he is allowed to go and what toys he can play with.  He is used to us being gone during that day for work. We check up on him on the dog camera and he is usually sleeping.    At night, Pluto sleeps on a couch, recliner, or dog bed depending on his preference. He does prefer to sleep with us but snores way too loud.  Pluto is a wonderful dog who is gentle, and friendly. He is always ready to snuggle up next to you on the couch and receive pets. He will make a great family pet.  Could you consider giving him the loving home he  deserves?  EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Pluto was found abandoned on the side of the road in October 2023. A BFPA volunteer found him and took him in.  We are helping this sweet boy find his forever home.      Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.    Applicants should ideally live no further than one hour from Cary NC.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize adoptions.  For the perfect home for Pluto, we will considered approved applicants who live a bit further away from the Triangle area of NC.    INTERESTED IN ADOPTING PLUTO? Story
We adopted Louie 4 years ago from a woman who initially rescued her from a neglectful owner. We are welcoming a new baby and unfortunately cannot maintain the environment best for Louie. Louie is a sweet, loving, attentive dog, who likes to spend her time napping right by our feet & going on walks in the neighborhood. She will immediately rollover to her back wanting tummy scratches when you bend down to cuddle with her. We have come to this tough decision because Louie shows signs of intense separation anxiety and fear, and doesn't do well with new people, environments, or other dogs when leashed. She is protective of our home, and will bark with new guests in home, out of intense fear. We believe Louie will have a fulfilling life in the right home. She LOVES the people she is comfortable around and is always the favorite at the vet or Camp Bow Wow. We believe Louie would do best with an experienced owner who mostly stays at home & is looking for deep companionship.

Story
Binka is a female Bulldog/Dogo mix. She is very affectionate and loves to snuggle and be loved on by her humans. Binka gets along well with her doggy foster sister and brother and loves to wrestle and play tug. Binka can be a little nervous meeting new people or dogs in new places but loves having new guests in her home and greets them without hesitation! In new environments, she will warm up after having a little time to adapt. We think this may be because she is a little vision impaired. She can see things close to her face and can usually chase a ball just fine, but we suspect her sight is a bit blurry. For this reason, Binka would do better in a home with older kids - she does great with her foster mom's nieces who are 7 and 9! Other than this, Binka is a completely normal playful and sweet puppy! She is fully potty and crate trained and also walks very nicely on a leash with very minimal correction. Binka is overall a super easy and very loving puppy and would make a great addition to any family! ##1949139##

Story
Foster notes, 4/29/24:Tank is a joy to have. He is very loving and when not showing his age (15 years), he acts like a pup when he plays. He plays with his toys on his own or when someone else wants to play tug of war with him. He loves to eat and sleep and loves getting treats. He dislikes other pets and animals in general so this means he would have to be the only pet in the home. Tank loves going on outings and for car rides as well. He does quite well in a car. He is fully housebroken and does very well when walking him on a leash.Foster notes, 1/19/24:Tank has been wonderful to have. My grandmother and I took Tank up to the pet store to get some extra toys and treats for him. He loves to play with his toys and loves to sleep. He is a very loving and sweet dog. Tank is house trained and will let you know he needs to go out by barking and going to the door. He loves treats and enjoys Milkbone Dog Biscuits, Puperoni Sticks, and chew sticks.Enjoys meeting new people, is cuddly and affectionate, walks well on leash (No or low amount of pulling), chases cats/small animals, enjoys car rides, and is potty trained.Foster notes, 12/5/23:Tank is a very loving dog and enjoys being around me and my Grandmother. He enjoys taking over the couch so I might have to get his permission to sit on it! LOL He likes to be the center of attention and loves to be petted and have his rear scratched. Most of the time, he loves to sleep as long as someone is with him. Tank has had one accident but is housetrained. Dog Day Out notes, 11/20/23:I took Tank to get a delicious pup cup at Dunkin Donuts and I took him to Hawfields Park where we walked and played with his ball. He is good with kids we met, enjoyed meeting new people, and he`s loving, affectionate, and good on leash.Dog Day Out notes, 10/2/23:Tank and I roamed around campus for a few hours. We layed out in the sun and in the grass, and met plenty of new friends. We walked around campus and just got to explore and also cuddle on plenty of benches! He enjoyed meeting new people, is loving and affectionate, and is good on leash but pulls a little. Tank didn`t go directly up to other animals, but was intrigued from far away. He never once barked at other animals, just looked at them. Tank was such a sweet boy, he was playful for small amounts of time but also calmed down when needed. He is incredibly sweet, he just wanted to hug and cuddle with every person he saw b

Story
Age: 6 years old (approx) Weight: 50 pounds Adoption Fee: $175 (includes microchip, neuter surgery and vaccinations) Papa is a very friendly medium-sized dog who is sweet and people-oriented. He knows how to SIT, lay down, and SHAKE hands and will even do this with either paw! He is quite playful but also a well-behaved adult dog. He likes car rides and going for puppacinos and frozen yogurt! He loves all people and loves to make new friends! We have also discovered he seems to enjoy wearing hats and sweaters, and he's so photogenic that you cannot help but dress him up for pictures! He's our resident Dog Model who will wear just about anything and has fun too. Got Netflix? He'll binge-watch whatever you're watching with you (we can't guarantee he'll stay awake though!) We have also found that Papa also really likes race tracks! He has been to Virginia International Raceway THREE times and loves all the people and noise.  His ideal home would have no other dogs (cats who know dogs are OK) and no small children/toddlers (he jumps a little bit when he's excited and could knock a little child over without meaning harm). He likes to run around with balls so a fenced yard is required. **************************************************************************** Papa is available for adoption through Spirit Canine Rescue. To adopt Papa, please visit our website http://www.spiritcaninerescue.org/adopt.html for more information and to complete an application. A home visit will be required prior to adoption. We request that all adopters be within reasonable traveling distance to Burlington NC.   * Our only obligation is to the dogs in our program and we reserve the right to determine whether a particular dog and the adopter are the right fit. Remember, just because a dog "looks" like the one you want, that does not necessarily mean that the dog will "behave" like the one you want! Note: We do not adopt out of state!  We do not adopt dogs into homes with invisible /underground fencing! February 25, 2024, 12:13 am

Story
My adoption fee has been fully sponsored. Adopt me and pay $0.00!!!Hi there, my name is Melon! I am a medium sized, energetic and playful fella. I love to run, play with tennis balls, and learn new things. I am working on sit, down and spin. I am an active pup so I hope my new family can take me on plenty of adventures because I love to go new places and meet new people :) Please ask staff if you have any questions about me.INSIGHTS FROM MY DOG DAY OUT ADVENTURE BUDDIES:`I had a great hike with Melon in the Carolina north forest. He rides well in the car and doesn’t pull on the leash. He knows the sit command and giving paw. We met some other dogs on the trail and he was very friendly.``Melon is such a sweet and gentle dog. We took him for a hike at Carolina North Forest and he had the best manners. He was calm in the car, didn`t jump on anyone, didn`t bark, and didn`t pull on the leash at all - he would slow down any time he felt tension on the leash. He was not reactive to other walkers, runners, or bikers, and even ignored a dog we passed that barked at him aggressively. At the beginning of the hike he wanted to sniff quite a bit at the side of the trail, but then he started to enjoy walking/trotting ahead of us with just occasional sniff stops. When we first met him he was a little subdued, but the longer we hiked the happier he got, and after the hike when we got to the coffee shop for a pup cup, he was wagging his tail nonstop. He wanted to meet the other people there and was very happy when someone stopped to pet him. He seems to really like people. He is a very easy dog to be around and was a lot of fun to spend time with.`
