Story
Meet Poncho- The Biggest Goofball! Poncho is a 6-year-old American Bulldog mix who’s making up for lost time — and having so much fun doing it. This 60-pound bundle of joy is white with adorable black spots, and he’s packed with personality, charm, and energy to spare. Since arriving at our shelter, Poncho has discovered the pure magic of kiddie pools, belly rubs, and running full-speed with the zoomies around the yard. He loves every person he meets and greets new friends with enthusiastic wiggles and hopeful eyes. That said, he's still working on some manners — especially his habit of jumping up when he's excited — so he’d do best in a home without small children for now. Poncho has lived his entire life outdoors, so things like crate training and potty training are totally new to him. But don’t worry — this boy is super food- and attention-motivated, and he’s eager to learn. He’s shown no negative reactions to other dogs in passing, and while we haven’t officially dog- or cat-tested him yet, we think his high energy might be a bit overwhelming for feline friends. Poncho’s story is one of survival and new beginnings. He came from C.H.A.I.N.E.D, a Detroit-based organization that provides care to dogs living chained or kenneled outdoors. Poncho lived in an outdoor kennel beside Bobby (another of our adoptable sweethearts), and the two were cared for by C.H.A.I.N.E.D. volunteers who made sure they had hay and heated igloos in the winter. When their former family moved to Mexico and couldn’t take the dogs along, we stepped in to give them a chance at real homes — the kind with couches, toys, love, and a soft place to land. Poncho is now looking for a patient, active home where he can continue learning what it means to be a family dog. He needs someone who can guide him through the basics with consistency and love, and in return, you’ll get endless laughs, devotion, and maybe a wet kiss or two. If you're looking for a dog who will adore you endlessly, make you laugh daily, and fill your home with joy — Poncho is your guy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you would like to meet Poncho, please submit an application for me on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. Poncho's adoption fee is $250, which covers part of the medical care he has received. **Please note that the breed listed for each of our dogs is a rough estimate unless DNA results are provided in their Bio. All strays have rough estimates of their age based on the condition of their teeth. Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Patsy (aka Patsy Potato ) Patsy—lovingly known as Patsy Potato—is a low-riding, 40-pound pitbull/bulldog mix with the kind of soulful eyes that tell a whole story. Born around January 2023, Patsy hasn’t had the easiest start to life, but she’s finally ready for what comes next: a real home of her own. For far too long, Patsy’s world was small. She was forced to have multiple litters before she came into our care, and all she knew for years was a birthing box. Despite that, Patsy has shown us just how resilient and gentle she truly is. She’s now recovered enough to begin searching for her forever family, and we couldn’t be more excited for her next chapter. Patsy is a dog who will thrive with the right human—someone patient, kind, and willing to help her discover the world at her pace. She doesn’t need someone to rush her or expect perfection. What she needs is a partner who will celebrate the small wins, offer consistency, and show her that life can be safe, calm, and even fun. Patsy’s Ideal Home: No young children — she’d do best in a home with no kids or kids over 15 No cats — they’re just not her thing Possibly a chill male dog — with proper introductions A home committed to continued training, confidence-building, and patience Patsy may be new to the big world, but she’s ready to learn. With the right guidance, she has so much potential to blossom into an incredible companion. She doesn’t need saving—she needs understanding, time, and love. If you’re the kind of person who believes the best bonds are built slowly and deeply, Patsy Potato might just be your girl. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in any of our animals for adoption, or to foster an animal, please fill out the respective application here to get the process started. Visit our FAQ webpage for commonly asked questions about our adoption/foster process. "Hi, I’m Indie!   My foster family calls me 'Sis,' and at 4 months old, I’ve already decided that life is all about two things: sunbeams and snacks. I’m a professional kiss-giver and a couch-cuddling expert. I love hanging out with human kids and dog pals, and I’m even learning how to stay on the good side of my sassy cat roommate!   If you're looking for a sweet Bully mix with a heart of gold, I’m your girl."    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed. The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by. May 16, 2026, 1:10 pm

Story
Meet Ritz — Ready for His Forever Home Ritz has been in our care for over three months, and this sweet 9-month-old pup is growing up in foster care while waiting for the home he deserves. At about 30 lbs, he’s a petite “mini-pittie” with a big personality, an even bigger heart, and the cutest habit of tapping his front feet when he’s excited. Ritz is a fun, goofy companion who loves to cuddle, especially with his foster dog friends at bedtime. He currently lives successfully with medium-to-large dogs and does best with calmer canine companions or dogs with a lower play style. He’s respectful of dogs who don’t want to play and enjoys simply being near his people. Cats, however, are a bit too interesting for him, so a cat-free home would be best. This food-motivated boy already sits nicely for treats, eats his meals in his crate, and settles in beautifully for couch or recliner cuddle time. He sleeps well overnight and is eager to please. Ritz shows signs of reactivity towards other dogs when physically restrained in public places. He often shows his excitement at home by wanting to put a pant leg or sleeve in his mouth, this behavior could be perceived by some as agression, however, it's truly him being excited. His foster has been working at stopping this behavior or redirecting to more appropriate items. Because of this, a home with children over 13 would be the best fit. We are happy to provide training support with an approved, committed adopter to help him continue working through things and building confidence and skills. Ritz has so much potential and is already a wonderful companion — loyal, affectionate, playful, and deeply connected to his people and residents dogs alike. He just needs someone willing to give him the chance he’s been patiently waiting for. Looking for a loyal companion who will love you wholeheartedly? Apply to meet Ritz here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/SMS/Dog
