Story
Dior is a sweet, tolerant medium sized dog who knows sit and paw. She was recently at a Pet Parade where she loved meeting the other dogs, people and children. She even said hi to the 2 cats that were there!  Dior is smart and food motivated for training. She is powerful on leash and will need a strong owner to hold onto her. She is a gentle, silly soul. At the shelter, Dior is still very scared in her dog kennel. There is some memory where she thinks something bad is going to happen, so she will look like the saddest dog in there when you visit. Once she is out of her cage, she wiggles her butt and is so sweet. She likes attention and really likes to play with toys too. Dior is demure and has been a pleasure to have around.  She is quiet and has gotten along with other dogs here too if introduced properly. We do not recommend her to go to a home with another female dog or another dog who is dominant. If you have a male dog at home, they will need to come by during our Animal Viewing hours below to see if they are a good match. She would love a yard to run around but also enjoys her multiple walks a day. She is a medium sized dog and reminds us of a Shorty Bull.   You can visit this pet during our Animal Viewing Hours. Applications are accepted in person at our facility after you visit this pet out of their cage. You can call first to see if this pet is still available: 410-313-2780 Option 0.   Location: Howard County Animal Control and Adoption Center 8576 Davis Rd Columbia, MD 21045 Animal Viewing Hours: Mon, Wed, Fri 10:00-4:30 (Closed at 2:30 the last Friday of each month) Tues & Thurs 1:30-6:45 Sat 10:00-2:00 (Closed on county observed holidays and holiday weekends.)Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 1:25 pm

Story
Diamond (or has staff members affectionately call her Princess Di) is a beautiful 4 year old American Bully female that will melt your heart. Diamond was given up to the shelter due to her previous owner having not enough time to care for her. Diamond has the sweetest disposition, she takes treats so gently from your hand, and has loved everyone she has met. In her previous home, she lived with other dogs and children and got along with them well. Here at the shelter, Diamond has met other dogs large/small and done wonderful with them. We do recommend bringing in your dog(s) to meet her to make sure they get along.  Visit during our Animal Viewing hours below to meet and apply on our sweet Princess Di/Diamond. DISCLOSURE: The adoptable pets in our program are still in the care and custody of owners who wish to re-home their pet. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Griselda or, Grizzy, is 1yr & 3 months old, weighs 80lbs, is spayed, is up to date on her vaccines, and is not microchipped.  "Grizzy knows how to sit and wait (sort of).  She knows away or down pretty well too." Griselda's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome her:  " I am unable to provide for her schedule wise and financially the way I think she deserves.  We took her in on more of a foster basis from a family member whose dog had a litter and was slow to sell.  We haven't had luck finding her a forever home by word of mouth so tapping into resources now instead." BITE/SCRATCH INCIDENTS:  More than 10 days ago, Grizzy nibbled when she was excited and scratched her guardian; the skin was not broken; animal control was not involved.  Grizzy's guardian further explains " She nibbles when excited and seeking attention but has done well with redirection to her toys. She has scratched at our feet for attention as well." Griselda's guardian offers a brief medical history:  " She has been itching to the point of breaking skin that then scabs over.  We are bathing her 1-2 times a week which helps for a bit.  I did find 2 ticks on her within the first month or so that were taken off with no issues." Griselda's guardian states the following regarding children:  Grizzy has lived with a 4yo child, so her guardian recommends her living with children, stating " she has been fine and is usually just curious about them. The first night she was in our home she did try to nibble at Wyo when he had a towel on so I think hooded things make her nervous." Griselda's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Grizzy hasn't lived with dogs, so her guardian doesn't recommend her living with dogs, stating " I am unsure how she would do with another dog in the house.  She has grown to be protective of our space but we haven't had another dog come over.  She's been fine with dogs outside of the house." Griselda's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Grizzy hasn't lived with cats, so her guardian doesn't recommend her living with cats, stating " When we visited a home with a cat, she is very interested and curious about the cat - the cat is not friendly so will run away.  Seems like when Grizzy has gotten close enough she's only looking to smell the cat." Griselda's guardian describes her as: Couch potato Playful Friendly Likes to be touched Affectionate Crate-Trained Likes men Likes women Griselda's guardian describes her ideal future home:  " I think the ideal home for Grizzy would be a young family who has a love for bigger dogs. She is playful and energetic but doesn't take much activity to tire her out -- a few laps around the house or outside is all it takes. She loves getting pet and snuggled with and would I'm sure love a home where she could curl up on the couch with her person. A yard is not necessary but someone who can walk her or have her walked twice a day would be appreciated." Rehoming Fee:  None Location:  Baltimore, MD***** ADOPTION PROCESS  1. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Atlas is a bully mix, is 1yr & 3mos old, weighs 65lbs, is neutered, is up to date on his vaccines, and is microchipped.  Atlas's guardian adds:   "Atlas is a fun and friendly dog.  He loves to go on walks, play tug, and practice his obedience training.  Out in the yard he may play fetch - after checking the perimeter to keep you safe from squirrels and bunnies!  After some exercise he is happy to settle down and chew a Nylabone or snuggle with his people.  He is equally happy at home on your couch or in his crate.  But he is very sociable without being a pest, so if you would like company at a dog-friendly cafe or other outing, he would much rather come along for the fun!   Atlas observes routines and learns very quickly, so he adapts to new environments well.  He would love to continue attending a doggy daycare or training classes so he can show off his smarts and continue his good manners with other dogs.   Atlas is either loose in the house during the day, or in his crate, depending on what we are doing.  At night, he sleeps in his room in a portion of the basement so the cats can be loose in the house at night.  He's fine during car rides, as he's excited at first but will settle in the back seat or in the back of an SUV.  Atlas has been attending a day training daycare at Leash Free Living in Millersville MD.  He knows all basic obedience, will sit and wait for food or to go through doors.  He is a very quick learner and takes correction well.  He is working on loose leash walking using a prong collar.  Atlas is currently eating Purina Sensitive Stomach and Skin kibble - salmon based.  Bullies tend toward allergies and chicken allergies, so we started him on this to prevent any issues." Atlas's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome him: "Atlas is a perfect boy in all ways but one - he cannot live with cats or other small animals.  He came to BARCS as a stray, so his background with cats was unknown.  We, along with a trainer, have determined that his prey drive is too strong to live with our cats." Atlas's guardian offers a brief a medical history: "Atlas was on anxiety meds at the BARCS shelter, but once he went to a foster and then to us, he has not needed them." Atlas's guardian states the following regarding children:  Since Atlas hasn't lived with or otherwise been around children, his guardian doesn't recommend his living with children, stating... "He has not interacted with children that we have seen, but based on his size, strength and young energy, I think he would be a bit too much for kids." Atlas's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Atlas has lived with dogs, so his guardian recommends his living with dogs, stating... "Atlas is good with dogs his own size and strength.  He is not reactive.  He should not be a dog park dog because he needs proper introductions, but he is fine out and about for walks, restaurant patios, etc where other dogs are.  He also works well in his training and play group at Leash Free Living." Atlas's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Although Atlas lives with cats, his guardian doesn't recommend his living with cats, stating "No cats.  Strong prey drive.  He fixates on them and shows signs of stalking". Atlas's guardian describes him as: Playful Friendly Likes to be touched Affectionate House-Trained Crate-Trained Likes men Likes women Atlas's guardian describes his ideal future home: "Atlas would be fine as an only dog, but he also enjoys having a playmate of his own size and 'rough and rowdy' play style.  A fenced yard where he can wander and run would be best.  He needs a good play session or long walk a few times a day, but otherwise is quiet and settled in the house.  He is still young, so he needs to burn that puppyish energy!  Atlas needs an experienced owner who can provide structure, routine, and exercise as well as reinforce the great start he has in training." Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Marshmallow is 1-1/2yo, weighs 66lbs, is neutered, is up to date on his vaccinations, and is microchipped.  Marshmallow's guardian adds:   "We found marshmallow running down a busy street.  After sitting with him at for a few hours, he finally trusted us enough to follow us into a garage, where we contacted an organization who came and put him through rehabilitative training.  Once he was ready for adoption, we, welcomed him into our home, which at the time had three dogs.  All was well until we had to put our oldest dog down.  A week later, I went out of town, my husband forgot to feed the dogs and without the alpha the two dogs got into a fight.   We contacted the rescue we got Marshmallow from, per our contract, however, they did not have the ability to house him.  Said we had to pay an outrageous amount to send him back to rehabilitation, or to euthanize him.  They went as far as to schedule a euthanasia appointment for us that evening. He is an amazing dog and does not deserve euthanasia because of a fight that is largely, our fault." Marshmallow walks perfectly on leash, sit, drop it.  Currently working on basic commands.  He's alone 3 hours per day at home and is with me or kept in the crate when I'm gone.  He dislikes/fears leaf blower and strangers in our bedroom.  He sleeps in his crate at night; is great during car rides. Marshmallow's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome him:  A recent fight between Marshmallow and the other resident dog over food on the floor resulted in sutures to the resident dog.  Marshmallow's guardian adds:  "We have two small children and so food is all over the place in our house and we have to guarantee their safety above all." Marshmallow's guardian offers a brief a medical history:  "Past hookworm, giardia, and lyme." Lunge/Bite/Attack Incident:  On 6 August 2024, Marshmallow lunged/attacked and bit the other family dogs; the bite broke the skin; animal control was not involved; medical treatment was sought.  Marshmallow's guardian explains:   "All was well until we had to put our oldest dog down.  A week later, I went out of town, my husband forgot to feed the dogs and without the alpha the two dogs got into a fight.  While both gotten bites, Marshmallow injured the other dog requiring emergency care.  The dogs were fighting over food.  It began as a scuffle, however, was allowed to go on much longer than should have been, as the accompanying family member was not equipped to deal with it, did not know how to break it up, so it went on much longer than it should have.  The other dog had seven or eight stitches." Marshmallow's guardian states the following regarding children:  Since Marshmallow lives with children, ages 2 & 4, his guardian recommends his living with children, stating "He is curious but gentle". Marshmallow's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Although Marshmallow has lived with multiple dogs, his guardian doesn't recommend his living with dogs, stating "He is fine with dogs outside the house but based on our incident it would be best to make him a solo dog". Marshmallow's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Since Marshmallow hasn't lived with nor otherwise been around, his guardian doesn't recommend his living with cats, stating "Cats can be unpredictable instigators and I can't say that Marshmallow would've engage if provoked". Marshmallow's guardian describes him as: Very active Couch potato Quiet Playful Friendly Likes to be touched Affectionate Always at your side House-Trained Crate-Trained Marshmallow's guardian describes him ideal future home: "Marshmallow would be best placed with an experienced dog owner, preferably someone who has owned bullies or stubborn dogs before.  He should be with someone who is active, and doesn’t mind being followed around all the time. He loves to play ball in the backyard, so a fence would be ideal." Rehoming Fee:  None Location:  Potomac, MD***** ADOPTION PROCESS  1.
