Story
Pet Location: Sherry is currently living in a foster home. If you’d like to schedule a time to meet her, please contact Wayside Adoptions at (816)986-4426.My friends at Wayside say:- My foster family said that I am crate trained.- I’m a little shy—slow and steady wins the race with me.- I love the other dog that I live with in foster! My home needs are:- I must meet other dogs in the home before adoption to make sure they can “show me the ropes.”Hi there, I’m Sherry! I’m a sweet, silly, playful pup who loves to have fun. I’m shy and timid too, though, and it takes me extra time to warm up and to learn to trust. I hope you’ll stay patient with me as I settle in and learn my new routine. If you give me that extra time, I will blossom into such a nice friend. I’m the sort of puppy who will make you smile and laugh every single day. Wait until you hear me snort when I get excited! I can’t wait to bring a little sunshine and silliness into your life. I’m ready! I’m a darling, 3-month-old, 18-pound (and still growing!) American Bulldog mix, with the cutest little face, perky, expressive ears, soft puppy fur, and an unassuming, goofy, delightful personality. I’m not housebroken yet, but I’m working on it, and I am already crate trained. I’m calm and quiet in my crate, and I don’t have accidents there. I was transferred to Wayside from a rural shelter in Oklahoma that didn’t have space for me. I still vividly remember how scary and confusing that time was for me. I trembled in my kennel, hoping no one would come near me. I just felt so alone and afraid. That’s when Foster Mom came into my life. She took me home and introduced me to a whole new world. I’m still learning new things every day, but life is incredibly good.Every single thing about living in a home is new and strange to me, so my foster family lets me go at my own pace, which has helped to put me at ease. The very best thing about my foster home is the other dog that I live with! She doesn’t mind when I follow her everywhere, or when I curl up next to her for naps, or when I always invite her to play. She has taught me so much about life, and I forget my insecurities as I act like a typical pup when I’m with her. She helps me to feel confident and content. And she just makes me happy. I will need a home with another friendly, social, playful dog who doesn’t mind a little shadow always by their side and who is happy to help me navigate life as I grow

Story
Buddy Boy (BB) Mixed Breed DOB: 10/20/2024 Approx. 50 lbs Hi! My name is Buddy Boy—though I’m often told I look just like Petey from The Little Rascals, and I don’t mind the comparison at all. Extra attention comes with it, and I love that part. Buddy is a friendly, affectionate one-year-old who loves everyone he meets. He is fully house trained in his foster home and has had no accidents. While he didn’t experience a lot as a young puppy, new things may be briefly scary at first—but once he knows he’s safe, he relaxes quickly and is ready to have fun. He enjoys playing with other dogs and loves to bounce around, roll in the dirt, and be part of the action. Buddy has lived with young children and did well, showing gentle and appropriate behavior. Buddy has also lived in a home with guinea pigs and does well around them, though small animals should always be supervised. He listens well, has good recall, and is an easy, fun companion to have around. Buddy is looking for a home ready to give him love, consistency, and plenty of time together. All of our dogs/pups are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccines. Adoption fee for all dogs/pups: $225. Our dogs are in foster homes across the KC metro. We do not have a shelter facility. Apply here: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HAUS/Dog

Story
Einstein – 2-Year-Old Playful, Smart, Affectionate Companion Hello, my name is Einstein, and I’d love to tell you a little about myself! At 2 years old, I’m a lot like a curious 4-year-old toddler—sometimes cautious with new experiences, but I warm up quickly and adjust fast. I love to play. Fetch and tug-of-war are my absolute favorites, and when I get excited, I bounce around like a little antelope. I’m also very affectionate and enjoy spending time with people. I give great kisses and will never turn down a belly rub. Since joining my foster family, I’ve been friendly and gentle with everyone I’ve met. I already know several basic commands like sit, shake, and wait for food. I’m learning how to walk nicely on a leash, and I’m working on becoming fully housebroken. Right now, I’m learning to use a bell to tell my humans when I need to go outside. I’m kennel-trained and sleep happily in my crate at night and when my foster family is away. Even though I’m a bigger boy, I really appreciate being accepted as a lap dog—it’s my favorite place to be. I enjoy chew toys, especially the tough, indestructible ones. If you’re looking for a playful, loving, smart dog who wants to learn, bond deeply, and be your loyal companion, I’d be thrilled to meet you! ✨ All Heart of America Humane Society dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations. If you have other dogs in your home, we require that they meet our dog prior to adoption. 💲 Adoption fee: $225 📍 Once you apply, the foster will contact you to schedule a meet and greet. 👉 Apply here: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HAUS/Dog

Story
Meet Bougie – A Gentle Soul Looking for Her Safe Haven Age: 3 years | Spayed | Up to date on all vet care | Microchipped Adoption Fee: $200 Bougie is a sweet, timid pup who’s slowly learning to trust the world again. At just 3 years old, she has already overcome so much after being rescued from a severe hoarding situation where she never received the care or socialization she needed. Because of her past, Bougie is very shy and cautious—but in the right environment, her gentle spirit begins to emerge. Bougie is fully vetted, spayed, and microchipped—ready for her second chance. She is looking for a calm, adult-only home with a securely fenced-in yard and no children. Due to her fearful nature, a home with experience handling shy or undersocialized dogs is a must. Another calm, confident dog in the home could help guide her and make her feel more secure. Bougie won’t be the kind of dog who runs to greet you on day one—but with time, patience, and love, she will blossom into a loyal and deeply grateful companion. If you believe in second chances and have the experience and heart to help a fearful dog thrive, Bougie might just be waiting for you.

Story
Holiday baking season may be over, but we`d still like to offer up Cinnamon. And while the spice is typically warm and bold, our Cinnamon is the shy and reserved variety. This scared boy lost a loving home due to housing issues and is scared and confused at the shelter. He`s trying hard to be brave, and the volunteers and staff do all they can to help him feel secure, but what he really needs is a home with a family again. There is such joy in helping a dog learn that there are lots of caring people in the world. Cinnamon is reported to have been housetrained in his prior home and he has lived with older children; he`d love to meet everyone in his new family before going home!Cinnamon is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. Cinnamon is living in a foster home. If you would like to meet him, please email foster@kcpetproject.orgHis ADOPTION FEE IS WAIVED! We want all our dogs to have homes as quickly as possible. In an effort to help dogs with longer stays, those who are deteriorating in the shelter environment, or who are harder to place find homes more quickly, the adoption fee for this dog has been waived.
