Story
This friend has just arrived because their owner could no longer keep them. While owners can provide some history on their pets, our medical and behavioral teams will still evaluate them. Dogs that have lived in homes previously typically have some training established, but we cannot guarantee that those behaviors will remain consistent in a new home environment. They are pending interactions with other animals at the shelter until they have been cleared by our vet. Our staff will spend some time getting to know them and we will update their bio with more information as we learn. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
ABOUT MR. BONES This handsome, loving boy had quite the rough beginning. Mr.Bones was found tied to our fence, emaciated and struggling to stand. Upon brining him inside, our team noticed several large and life-threatening lacerations. Our veterinary team leaped into action to provide surgery he needed to save his front limb and prevent infection in his other wounds. Despite his size, this skinny guy had more strength than we ever imagined! Mr. Bones handled surgery like a champ and even gave our team kisses afterwards, as if he was happy to be helped. Despite all he endured in his past, Mr. Bones doesn't hold that against anyone, he loves making new friends and is the happiest guy around. To help monitor him during recovery, Bones went into a loving foster home, here's what they had to say about him: "Mr. Bones is acclimating to a foster home setting wonderfully! Introducing him to 3 doggy foster brothers was a breeze, although they are kept in separate areas of the home unless monitored & one at a time while he's healing from surgery. We have been working on redirection training (treat scatters "go find it, "get your toy, "leave it, etc) while using "Yes! or "Good! as his reward with a treat. He learned "Sit and "Down extremely fast. Definitely exhibits more balanced behavior when on an enrichment plan throughout the day (Kong, slow feeder, snuffle mat, 1:1 yard time). We love having him here and know he will make a family very happy!" If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Story
Hi-ya humans! I'm Chester! I have a heart as big as my head, and I have a pretty good-sized noggin! I don't use it all for smarts though.. I have lots of happy thoughts about running in the grass, yummy snacks, and of course, snuggles with my favorite people! I have a glass half full kind of mentality and can't wait to bust out of puppy prison once and for all!   I'm a super social butterfly, and have been great at events, I love meeting new humans and going for adventures! I am open to meeting other friendly doggies, too! If you have a dog who needs a friend, I volunteer as tribute for the job. Mostly, though, I can't wait to find a forever friend who will bring me home and love me forever! If you like two years old, 50ish pound, happy snorty boys, make sure you come meet me! I don't think you'll be disappointed. I have the smooshiest face and will surely keep you smiling and laughing - don't we all need some more happiness in our lives?!   Have Room in Your Home? Welcoming in a pet saves your new pet's life and creates space for another pet to get a chance! Not sure if Chester would be the best fit for you? Send in a generic app! Our team will work with you to find a pet to best fit your lifestyle! You will go home with a starter bag of food, one month of flea and heartworm prevention, and also have 90 DAYS of training help included with your adoption, if needed! Story
He has been the most wonderful companion for me. I bought him as a friend for my husbands American Bulldog who when my spouse passed and could not stop crying for him. Since then I've almost lost my ability to walk due to a hip needing replaced and losing my health insurance when my job closed down. A car ran thru my home on Thanksgiving day and I've been in temporary housing ever since. I'll be moving in with my son in his small trailer and can't take the dogs. I'm asking if you can help me rehome Kobe before that happens. He's potty trained and used to family life. Please call Kathy at 302-983-1761November 5, 2024, 3:21 pm

Story
Dog Name: Charlie Breed: American Bully Sex: F Age: She will be 4 in November. Weight: 60 lbs ish. Medical Needs: None Housebroken: Yes, as long as kept on a regular schedule. Crate trained: Yes, she loves her crate. She spends a lot of time in there relaxing throughout the day with the door open. Good in the car: Charlie rides pretty well, but should be tethered to something so she isn’t climbing all over the car and you. Good on a leash: With a prong, yes. Without it she weaves all over and will pull, especially if she sees something that excites her. Energy level: She’s either at a 2 or a 10 . She chills with the best of them most of the time, but when she gets a wild hair up her arse…watch out. My girl is coming in hot, and has absolutely no regard for your knees. Need a fenced in yard: Yes. There’s no way she’d be able to do her zoomies while leashed. Dog Friendly: She’s done well with everyone in the household, except our resident HBIC. Charlie should not be placed in a home with an assertive female. If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? Yes, Charlie is a scaredy cat, and needs a friend to show her everything is ok in new settings. Cat Friendly? Yes, but will pounce at and chase for fun Charlie is easily redirected when she does this. Kid Friendly: Our youngest is 9 and she does well with him. If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Age 8 and up. As mentioned earlier, she can be a big baby, so kids old enough to understand to give her space as she’s acclimating would be best. Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Charlie came to us from a breeder surrender in 2021 with 17 other kennel mates. She was adopted, and is very loved by the family that fostered her when she first came up. Since then, there have been many significant life changes for her family. Changes that are preventing Charlie from living her best life For that reason, we have decided to find her the forever home that’s best for her. Charlie came to us rather unsocialized, with a bit of stranger danger. She has made a lot of progress over the past 3 years, but she can still be weary of both new people and loud boisterous males. Our guess is this goes back to whatever she experienced prior to coming to GRR. Charlie is an absolute gem. She’s affectionate, comical and so much fun to be around. She deserves the best, and we just can’t give it to her here… We are hoping to find her a low key family that loves and appreciates Bullies as much as we do. Also hoping her new family isn’t far from Milton so we are close enough to offer support if needed. Fosters Location: Milton, DE Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app ##1201494##

ABOUT NAOMI Meet our sweet, lovable girl Naomi! She is a 9-month-old hound mix that can't wait to melt in your lap! Naomi came to HAP from a high-intake shelter in Louisiana when they no longer had space for her. Despite being a young pup in the shelter, this girl is just happy to be rescued! Naomi loves meeting new people and has a blast in puppy playgroups with her dog friends. She has gone to several fundraising events off-site and done marvelous with children too!
