Story
Sheva (whose real name is Sheba) is a beautiful 3-1/2 year old female Akita mix who was surrendered by her owner to the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden on November 19, 2024 because she could no longer physically take care of Sheva. Sheva has a dense/thick white coat with subtle tan shading, a long fluffy tail, and an adorable face with large blue eyes, a liver-colored nose, and small erect ears. Sheva's left ear is deformed (most likely due to an old ear infection or a hematoma). These photos were taken on November 22, 2024 when HSOV Volunteer Emma Dahlgren accompanied Sheva for outdoor pictures. The weather was bitter cold that day with brisk winds, but Sheva didn't seem to notice since her heavy/dense coat kept her warm .. And she was oblivious of the fact that Emma and our photographer were shivering while waiting for her to pose pretty for the camera (smile). We don't know yet how Sheva feels about children, cats, and other dogs since that information was not provided when she was surrendered. Sheva weighs 40 lbs. She will be spayed before being adopted by her new family. Sheva is looking for a loving home with an experienced individual/family who is familiar with the Akita breed. She could be fostered while she awaits her spay procedure with an approved HSOV adoption/foster application. Update: Sheva went home with a foster family on December 24, 2024. Sheva is still available for adoption. If you would like to adopt this beautiful girl, please complete an HSOV adoption application and submit for approval. Once approved, we will make arrangements with Sheva's foster family to bring her to the shelter for a meet-and-greet to see if she is the 'girl of your dreams'. Sheva came back from her foster home on Christmas Day through no fault of her own since her foster mother was allergic to her. Update: Sheva went home with a foster family on January 3, 2025 who plans to adopt her after she is spayed. Sheva came back to HSOV on January 8, 2025 since her foster family wanted a smaller dog. They reported that Sheva was a very well-behaved girl in their home and that she loved the snow. Sheva was good with older children that she interacted with.

This little sweetheart has spent time in foster homes, and we’ve learned that Sheva is good with other dogs as well as older children. She has been well-behaved and is housetrained. Sheva LOVES the snow! Sheba will be spayed before being officially adopted and could be fostered-to-adopt (with an approved HSOV adoption/foster application) while she awaits her spay procedure.
