Story
Meet Blizzard, a 2-year-old malamute with a heart as big as his voice! This sweet and playful boy is friendly with everyone he meets and already knows "sit" and "paw." Blizzard is a quick learner, a good listener, and always ready for some fun. He's a bit shy when meeting new dogs but warms up fast and is eager to play. He appears house trained. Blizzard has lived with kids 7 and up and done well, making him a great addition to an active family. Like most malamutes, Blizzard loves to sing! His soulful howls are part of his charm, but they did lead to his previous owner surrendering him after neighbors complained. He’s used to spending plenty of time outdoors, so Blizzard would thrive in a home with access to a yard or outdoor space where he can stretch his legs and enjoy the fresh air. Daily exercise and mental stimulation will help keep him happy and content. If you’re looking for a fun-loving, loyal companion who will keep you smiling (and serenaded!), Blizzard is ready to meet you. Don’t miss your chance to bring this big-hearted guy home! If you're ready to adopt now and want to learn more about, meet, or adopt this pet, you can start the process in one of two ways: Come on in during open adoption hours Tuesday - Saturday 12:30-3:00! For in-shelter pets (not in foster care) coming in ASAP is the fastest way to adopt. **the below two methods are slower than visiting us** Call us (413-781-4000 x 1) or email us (springfield@dakinhumane.org) for more information about a pet. We are often on the line with another client, but we return voice mail and emails within 24 hours. All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations - heartworm test -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter

Story
MEET FINNY the Malamute Mix! Check out his video!Have you ever seen such a handsome face? Are you looking for a very sweet and loving personality to go with that face? Well, Finny is your boy! He`s a 5 year old weighing 72 pounds but most of that is a fluffy coat ready to keep you warm all winter long! Finny is a happy dog looking for his next adventure with you! He and his previous owner came all the way from the west coast and then his owner had to move and Finny couldn`t go. So, now he`s searching for you. He knows that his ancestors had a job of pulling sleds and will need some work on leash manners. Perhaps his new job will be being your favourite boy. Finny would most likely prefer to be the only dog in his home as he can be a little selective with who he hangs out with. This high energy boy loves playing fetch and has even enjoyed going on runs during his stay here. In foster Finny was described as a high drive dog who was happy to settle on the couch after burning off some steam! If you`re looking for a fun hiking buddy, look no further than this man! Finny would do best in a structured teen/adult only home preferably outside of the city! Please note Finny requires multiple meets before going to his forever home!Finny is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been neutered, microchipped, and seen by our vet team. For more information on Finny or any other animal currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please call us at 617-426-9170. We welcome adopters from NH, RI, CT, and NY. However, we will be unable to facilitate same day adoptions due to state regulated paperwork requirements. Story
Meet Atenea!   Atenea (pronounced “Athena”) is a 40-pound Malamute mix with a heart as big as her beautiful name. This sweet girl has overcome a difficult past but is now ready to embrace a bright future with her forever family.   Atenea was found in Mexico, tied up in terrible conditions alongside her son, who has since been adopted. Despite everything she’s endured, Atenea’s gentle and loving spirit shines through. Atenea would take praise and affection over treats any day! She loves to snuggle her foster mom and her toys! Atenea enjoys going for walks, making her a wonderful companion for leisurely strolls.    Atenea is housebroken, crate trained, and is working on not pulling on leash. She is good with dogs and kids!    Atenea is in foster care on Martha’s Vineyard. Potential adopters must be willing to travel to the island if not currently residing there. No car required on the ferry!*   Before Atenea could start her new chapter, she bravely underwent heartworm treatment, and now she’s officially cleared and ready to go! This affectionate and resilient pup is ready to bring her warmth and sweetness to a home that will give her the love she truly deserves.   Interested in adopting Atenea? Apply today to meet her! is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (puppies under the age of 6 months may not be sterilized prior to adoption, if this is the case your adoption coordinator will discuss the process with you).
