We show our dogs by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting Quill, please first fill out our online adoption application at kcpaws.org. Quill's adoption fee will be $175. PLEASE READ BIOGRAPHY BEFORE APPLYING Meet Quill, he is a 4-6 year old Husky/Akita Mix who came to us after spending most of his life on a chain. He has loved getting to live life to the fullest since coming to our rescue and enjoys his daily walks and runs and playing fetch in the yard with staff. Quill has warmed up well to the staff here at KC PAWS and has particularly bonded with the manager there, it is clear that once he is bonded and trust someone he is a friendly and affectionate dog. However due to his past he sometimes is weary of strangers approaching him. He is not the type of dog that would like being in large crowds or having strangers come up to pet him during walks. He will also need his potential adopter to be willing to do multiple visits with him before adoption. Quill has met a few female dogs that he has gotten along well with, however he does not like to interact with other male dogs especially if they are his size or larger. He would do best with a female dog around his size. He does need a home with no small dogs, or cats. He would not be an appropriate fit for a home with children as he does not like for people to be in his face leaning over him and children on his level would be frightening for him. Quill is a very active, high energy dog and LOVES to run. He would be an excellent match for someone looking for a running, hiking, adventure buddy. Quill is kennel trained and keeps his run at the shelter clean. He also loves to go for car rides. Quill needs an experienced dog owner who will be willing to really work on training and socializing. He is not an appropriate fit for a first time dog owner or someone who has no previous training experience.

Bayleigh is almost a year old and she’s an amazing dog. She’s great with kids and other animals. Loves to go outside and does okay when on a leash when you take her on walks etc. Wanting to find her an amazing home where she can run around more and also where they can give her the quality time that she needs. We can’t have her due to us having to move away, so wanting to find her a good home to go soon if we can. If you have any question, feel free to ask 😊

Meet Toffee, our fun-loving 2-year-old Akita mix! Brought to the shelter as a stray by her owner’s significant other, Toffee is a bundle of energy and personality. She’s highly treat motivated, which makes training a treat for both her and her future family. While she shows little interest in toys, she’s all about the snacks!Toffee is still working on her leash manners and can be a bit exuberant when she wants attention—watch out for those enthusiastic jumps!Toffee was introduced to another dog named Shep. She greeted him with a friendly sniff and even tried to initiate play by jumping and mouthing his muzzle and legs. However, her play style can be a bit rough, so she’d do best with a dog her size or larger who can handle her energy! One thing to note—Toffee is quite fixated on cats. She’ll try to find a way into their space, and even when redirected, her attention quickly goes back to them.
