Story
*NOT GOOD WITH MALE DOGS* Duke is 2.5 years old and still plays like a puppy. He is sweet and cuddly and loves to be on top of you. We have had him for close to two years and have tried tirelessly to help him and his brother we got before him to get along, but have come to realize that they would be better off living separately. Duke had a difficult start to life and came to us skiddish, underweight, and unsure of everyone. He still has behavioral issues. He likes to jump, to play bite, and has a tendency to chew on furniture if left unattended while no one is home. Does great with our female dog. He is the sweetest boy. He sheds but has gone to the groomer many times without issue. He needs a fenced in yard, as he has run away previously. Very prey driven and has brought me a few birds since his time with us. Will go in a crate but will cry for the first bit he is in there. I love him so much, but I have to put his happiness and safety first.

Story
Meet Harbor – A Gentle Soul Ready to Drop Anchor in Your HeartHarbor is a handsome senior gentleman, estimated to be 7 years old or older, with the look of a unique Akita mix and stunning brown and copper coloring throughout his coat. He’s the kind of dog who turns heads with his beauty—but it’s his gentle spirit that truly stays with you. After coming to us as a stray, Harbor has made it clear just how much he loves being around people. He finds comfort in human companionship and soaks up affection with quiet gratitude. He’s an incredibly sweet, easygoing boy with a calm, steady presence that makes every moment with him feel peaceful. Inside the home, Harbor is happiest simply following his people from room to room before settling down nearby to relax. We believe Harbor is nearly, if not completely, deaf—but it hasn’t slowed him down one bit. He navigates the world with confidence and responds well to visual cues and gentle guidance. What he may lack in hearing, he more than makes up for in heart.Harbor is potty trained and will even lay by the door to let you know when he needs to go out—such a polite gentleman. He rides wonderfully in the car and enjoys tagging along for errands, making him an easy companion for day-to-day life. He also genuinely enjoys being pampered—baths, brushing, and even a good blow dry are all on his list of favorite things. He’s a social, loving boy who greets everyone like a friend—truly, no one is a stranger to Harbor. He may chase cats if they’re within sight, but once they’re out of view, he settles back down quickly. Harbor also appreciates having his own quiet moments and will occasionally choose to relax in his crate for a bit of alone time.Harbor would do best in a home that appreciates the slower, softer pace of a senior dog and is ready to offer patience, consistency, and love. He’s the kind of companion who will happily stay by your side, content just to be near his people. If you`re looking for a loyal, soulful companion to share your days with, Harbor may be the perfect match. Come meet him—he’s ready to find a place to finally call home.If you would like to meet Harbor, please submit an application for him on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $275, which helps cove
