We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG:https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=44, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41, EXOTICS: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=46) completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 50-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 animal that you are interested in.Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other options. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in any of our animals for adoption, or to foster an animal, please fill out the respective application here to get the process started. Visit our FAQ webpage for commonly asked questions about our adoption/foster process. &#226&#128&#139Meet Zuki! This sweet lady has had a rough few years! Zuki is a Japanese Akita, who was originally imported from Japan. Zuki unfortunately lived her first years of her life being housed in a closet. However, when you first meet her, you would have no idea that she’s had such a lonely past. Zuki loves giving you hugs and kisses but is just as happy sitting quietly at your feet. She’s a quiet girl with a tender and sweet disposition, and she loves all people and all ages. Zuki does show mild signs of reactivity to new dogs, but only when they get to close (she likes her personal space). This is due to never having seen another dog until she was an adult.  Zuki does currently live in a foster home with several other dogs and after a slow and proper introduction she lives happily among them. She would do best in a home without other dogs but with proper introduction and patience could do well. Behavior with cats is unknown but she reacts positively when seeing them at adoption events, so she might do well in a home with cats. Zuki is potty trained and up to date on vaccines. She’s scheduled to be spayed on January 24th.  Breed experience is preferred, but not required. For more information about Zuki please fill out an application at Last Day Dog Rescue! Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed. The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by. January 24, 2025, 4:00 pm

Story
Meet Akira, she is a 1-1/2 year old spayed female Akita (around 90 lb) looking for a new home. She is a wonderful dog that gets along well with both male boxer dogs in my home. She has good manors and is a very quick learner. Walks very well with both of my other dogs, side by side. Excitable during play but does very well sharing toys with other dogs. No resource or food guarding of any kind. Have not seen her interact with children but would not suggest her in a home with small children under 12. Does well with grooming, nail trimming/brushing. She loves car rides and going places like parks or to the pet store. Unfortunately i'm going thru a divorce and will not be able to have three dogs in new living arrangement. Ideally she would do best in a home without children under 12 and spoiled on her own or with a dog(s) of same age and energy level. I do walk/run her 5-10 miles a day currently so she should be with an owner who is also very active and has previously owned an Akita.

Story
Meet Tormund! THRIVING IN FOSTER! LOVES PEOPLE, PUPS & THE SNOW!! This delightfully unique Akita/boxer boy is three years old and is 80 pounds of goofy goodness! He is enjoying some time away from the kennel with an amazing foster family! From the moment you meet him, Tormund will have you smiling ear to ear! He is having the best time hanging with his foster fur brother and would love another canine companion in his new home (though it's not a requirement). When he's not wrestling with his brother, you can find him with his favorite jolly ball in a game of fetch! Tormund is also a fan of squeaky toys and his foster parents are able to take toys/food away with no issue. Not only is Tormund one handsome dude, he's very smart and knows a few commands. With continued training, he won't disappoint! Tormund is a very affectionate fellow and is always seeking out all the love he can get. He is a fan of laying his head gently in your lap for some well-deserved pets. He's also house-trained and aims to make you proud! As you can see by his pictures, this dude lives to play outside! He takes every opportunity he can to romp in the snow (check out the video!) He's an absolute joy to hang with! If you're a lover of winter sports, you've found your furry companion! Tormund does have a prey drive so a large, fenced-in yard is essential to keep him safe while giving him a chance to explore. This also means a home free of cats or small animals is best for him. Tormund rides well in the car and is ready to accompany you on all of your adventures! He will need a strong handler to work with him on his leash skills, and he is already showing improvement. At the end of a fun-filled day, he sleeps quietly on the floor in the bedroom. While he has been crated, he prefers to have his space in the house. Based on our evaluation, we feel Tormund will do well in an active home with adults or families with kids ages eight and up. He may have the potential to live with other animals as he has done well with his fur foster brother. We are happy to do a meet and greet with your family fur baby. If you he could be the pup you've been searching for, please visit greatlakesdogrescue.com and submit an application for our terrific Tormund today!

Story
Yoshi is a playful, loving, affectionate boy who can't wait to warm your heart and home! Yoshi loves playing with other dogs, loves playing tug with ropes, and loves stuffies with squeakers. Yoshi's true kryptonite, however, is belly rubs! he'll take as many belly rubs as you're willing to give him. Like many of his breed he is very relaxed around the house when given enough activities and stimulation like longs walks, and puzzle toys that stimulate his mind. Yoshi does well in the crate when home alone, he is extremely smart and has been learning basic commands with ease. He is highly motivated by food/treats when inside, but more motivated by affection/pets when outside. Yoshi can't wait to find a home to call his own where he can continue learning and flourishing into the wonderful young man he is. Adoption is $275, which includes spay/neuter at our vet, vaccines, dewormer, microchip, and clean bill of health. Although we work to potty train all of our dogs, we cannot guarantee full house training before adoption. Regression is a normal part of transitioning to a new home. Story
Candy Apple A17193263 lb. spayed female, approx 2 years old -Beautiful girl!-Walks great on leash. Slow and steady.-Timid and will sometimes duck with quick movements near her head 😞-Friendly and gives kisses-She’s more content to do her own thing right now-Allows pets but isn’t seeking them out quite yet-I saw brief moments of playfulness with some play bows and tail wags-Once she was more comfortable she started taking treats. She’s picky though and only eats certain ones. Takes them ever so gently.-Lower energy right now-Will need time and patience to trust and feel comfortable-Not interested in toys just yet-Seems non reactive to dogs nearby and may do well living with a fur sibling after slow and proper intros Unknown behavior with dogs/cats/kids•Meet all of our adoptable pets on our website friendsofdacc.org/adopt •Please keep in mind that the shelter can be a very stressful environment. •Studies show that a minimum of 3 days decompression drastically lower stress hormones and allow the dog to show more personality after they have settled in. •There is a suggested donation of $100 for our dogs, payable by cash, check or through paypal at the time of the adoption. •To meet them please go to front door and a DACC staff member will assist you with adoption or fostering. **And when coming to meet one of our dogs, please bring all the humans with you, but leave any current dogs at home. Staff will go over how to slowly and properly introduce them after a decompression period.** •The shelter is open 7 days a week from 10:30-3:30 BUT our adoptions are done 7 days a week from 10:30am -3:00pm. •The last potential adopter must arrive before 3:00 pm so we have time to properly help you before closing. **1431 E Ferry St. Detroit
