Story
Hiromi was turned into the shelter as a found dog. No one ever came for her. Despite being failed by her former person, this sweetheart remains devoted and loving. After Hiromi’s arrival she was initially timid and lacked confidence. She can still be somewhat apprehensive but in less than 10 days, she has opened up and trusted us enough to let her true colors shine! She is silly, sensitive, refreshingly affectionate, playful and a free spirit. Her absolute favorite past time is to be showered with love and give it in return. Her gentle, resilient nature is inspiring but not surprising. Hiromi is very communicative by expressing a multitude of emotions with her eyes. Her body language is inviting and she understands how to use it to subtly let you know what’s on her mind. She is also an Akita so stubbornness is part of her DNA! Her ideal adopter should have a calm home environment and be able to provide consistency and a daily routine, where she can continue to expand her horizons. Hiromi gets excited for her daily walks and is a great traveler! She greets people with ease as long as they approach with the same calm energy that she emits. She seems non-reactive to other dogs and might do well with a mellow male dog. This gorgeous girl is approximately 4-years old and weighs 57 pounds. She is also crate and house trained. She is ready to pledge her love and devotion! Are you?! Interested in adopting? Story
We don't know much about Tobi's past, but his future is bright.  He is a big boy with a heart the size to match.  He is a gentle giant with a gregarious, carefree attitude and is eager to learn and experience the world. He is game for adventure and deserves to have that special someone to accompany him in life. Tobi is playful and has a welcoming aura about him.  He also has an unabashed, confident side to him.  He's just not sure how he ended up here, and we're making sure he never has to wonder that ever again. He is best as an only dog and someone with previous Akita experience is best. Tobi is approximately 5 yrs old, and due to his size should be on a good quality joint supplement.  He's only been with us a short time, so will need to gain a few pounds to look his best, but he's already on his way to showing us his beautiful soul. Story
Kanoa is simply a great dog! He’s a 1.5-year old, friendly, playful, and very energetic young Akita. He likes people and appears friendly toward dogs when passing them on leash. He also walks very politely on leash and likely wouldn’t mind running, too, if his human companion was so inclined. Everything about Kanoa suggests that he has lived in a home before and will make his lucky new family very happy. He appears house-trained and is definitely ready to get out of the kennel and into a home again. Come see if you’d like to take Kanoa home with you! Aloha! I'm Bread and I'm a 11-week old, female, long coated Akita. I'm a love bug that loves to be held and cuddled. Unfortunately, I won't be able to be held for long, as I'm already 20 pounds! I'm going to be a big girl that will need lots of training while I'm still a small pup. The Vet said that I might have hip and joint issues that will effect me as I grow, so adopters should be prepared to take me in for an orthopedic consult. If you're interested in giving me a good home and can afford appropriate medical care, apply to adopt me! Apply to adopt me through the Oahu SPCA! Kazhem is a very handsome, somewhat shy Akita mix who warms up slowly to new people. But once he is comfortable he will share his goofy personality with you, running zoomies in the grass and showing off his great smile and happy tail wag.He gets along great with other dogs on the beach, the trails and probably in the dog park, but would prefer to be the only doggo in his forever home. Once Kazhem bonds with you he`s very devoted and wants to be with you all the time. Retirees, professionals who work at home, and anyone else who could make him a part of their daily life would be his dream family!

I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereAngelica is a charming puppy with an adorable blend of breeds, possibly including Corgi, Shepherd, Cattle Dog, and maybe even a touch of Akita (foster family’s best guesses!). She has the cutest lopsided ears—one up and one down—that add to her unique personality. This playful girl thrives on praise, making training sessions both fun and rewarding. She already knows “sit” and is working on other commands! Angelica is great with kids and loves other dogs, making her an ideal addition to a family with pets. She adores water and will happily jump in the shower with you—baths are definitely her favorite! Plus, she has a sweet habit of following you around like a shadow, always wanting to be by your side. When you talk to her, she’ll cock her head, soaking in every word.  Working on crate training and is still in the stage of putting everything in her mouth, so she will need positive reinforcement/rewards based training to guide her. Story
Meet Emi Emi’s sleek, brindle coat is a thing of beauty and so magnificent to behold. Engaging, charismatic, gregarious, and spirited are the first things you sense about her from the moment she enters a room. Emi exudes a brand of joy that makes her impossible to resist! Not until you witness her graceful elegance and see a bit of frost around her muzzle, do you realize she is a senior beauty with an abundance of life experiences to share. She’s 8 yrs old and has found herself homeless, but she’s seen enough in life to know there’s still a wonderous journey ahead. She is a lover of people and she’d much rather be enjoying a fun adventure with you by her side on interesting walks or trips to the beach, than be left at home alone. She needs to be an only dog and is not suitable with cats. She is approximately 60 lbs. and seems unaware she has some arthritis and hip dysplasia. But as you can see, she enjoys playing with her toys and doing tricks for treats. Her healthy curiosity keeps her engaged in life’s adventures, though she also loves her beauty naps. Please don’t let her age deter you from considering giving her a home. Her heart is overflowing with love. If you are interested in Emi, please complete our adoption application in the link below. Story
Appa is a loving Siberian Husky. He just celebrated his second birthday in July. I purchased Appa from a litter in August of 2022. His mom and dad were show dogs, and his siblings all look just like him. It breaks my heart to have to rehome Appa, but at the age of 24 with all of the working and traveling I do, Appa does not get the attention he needs. I just moved into a small one bedroom apartment in SF and spend 8+ hours away each day. When I get home, i'm exhausted and poor Appa just wants to run around. He deserves a home where he can do that throughout the day in a backyard or just someone who works from home and can give hime the attention he needs. I am also constantly traveling, and have spent thousands of dollars boarding him that I can no longer afford. He is such a good boy- just a bratty personality like all huskies. I'm hoping I can rehome him local in the Bay Area so I can still visit him from time to time. I love you Appa. Adoption includes large dog crate and leash.

Story
Arlo is a big, energetic boy who loves car rides, outdoor adventures (camping, hiking, walking, swimming), and being around his humans. He loves to walk around parks, say hi to new adults, and find gophers to sniff out and try to catch. He's beyond adorable and can be very loving and sweet to both his own humans and new people, but he also has resource guarding issues so managing that and being aware of his body language is extremely important. He’s a high energy dog who needs multiple walks and boundaries in and outside the home to manage his dog reactivity and resource guarding. He currently lives in an apartment in the city and would do much better in a larger home with a fenced- in yard or some type outdoor space. He’d do great in an active home, with no children or other animals, who can be outside with him and has time to manage his behaviors. He's strong, fast, super smart and such a fast learner - he has a lot of potential in the right environment and home.

Story
Alvie is a perfect blend of adventure and calm. He loves bike rides, walks, and exploring new places, yet he has a laid-back nature, often content to sit at your feet while you work. Loyal and comforting, he’s the kind of dog who will quietly stay by your side, making him an excellent companion. He walks well on a leash and enjoys getting his legs wet at the beach, showing off his adventurous spirit. Despite his independence, he’s also a big fan of snuggling next to your feet, offering both comfort and affection. With his stoic, regal demeanor, Alvie is an old soul who will become your loyal shadow once he trusts you. He takes treats with gentle care and his favorite snack is string cheese. Alvie is smart and responds well to guidance & structures. While he doesn’t require a husky-savvy owner, he would thrive best with someone experienced in handling dogs. From Alvie's foster dad: Alvie loves running or biking with his human. He comes back with a happy face every time. He is very responsive to obedience training. He knows sit, wait, heel, here, leave it and no. He prefers to meet other dogs slowly. Once he trusts you, he will be your ride or die. He has very good leash manners once awhile he just needs some "reminders". Alvie is crate and muzzle trained, with no signs of separation anxiety. However, due to his high prey drive, we don’t recommend placing him in a home with small animals. If you’re looking for a loyal, adventurous, and loving companion, Alvie is your perfect match.
