Story
Voltaire is a 1 year old dog who weighs 86 pounds. He came to the Sacramento SPCA from Pasadena Humane Society, so their shelter could have space for animals affected by the fires. He’s a big boy that is a total athlete in the making. If having an Olympian by your side sounds like your thing, Voltaire would be more than happy to oblige. He`s named after the philosopher because he`s not just brawn.. but brains to boot! Strength, speed, and smarts too; with the right trainer this guy would definitely shine! My adoption fee has been sponsored by a loving fan!I don’t have a history with dogs. I may do well with a slow introduction to new dogs.I don’t have a history with cats. I may do well with them with a slow introduction.I don’t have a history with children but I may do well with them.If you are interested in this specific animal, please come to the shelter for walk-in adoptions Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30am to 5:30pm. We recommend coming in as early as possible, as adoptions are first-come, first-served.

Story
**Currently in foster** I'm introducing myself to you as a very independent, a little shy, and intelligent dog. My name is XL Duck. And I didn't grow up socializing with people a lot. So it takes me some time to get used to new human beings. But once I know you, you are my best friend. I love running, and running, and running. I met quite a few dogs at the shelter, and they all became my friends therefore I'd love the company of another dog in my new home! When I was in a foster home, I was quiet and non-destructive, but preferred the company of other dogs. I've made a lot of human friends at the shelter, and I love to play with them and get scratches.  Interested in adopting? Visit our shelter during open hours and ask about XL Duck and A050126December 31, 2024, 2:18 pm

Story
TTYL is a mild-mannered and petite gal, paired with a fun, young un-neutered male, and they suit each other well. She loves people and affection. She leans right in when you give her some attention but doesn’t jump up and beg for attention. She’s also also extremely easy on the eyes with striking markings and a gorgeous long coat. She could use a few leash lessons so she zigzags less but overall she’s not decent on leash.Watch my video: https://youtube.com/shorts/SMwSZrBPe6o?si=cBqrSZjrkp140-NBCome meet me today!

Story
Meet Howlard, a 2-year-old Husky with a gentle soul who’s still learning to trust new people and experiences. ?? Howlard is a shy guy who can be a bit cautious with touch, but once he feels safe, he’s a sweet and affectionate companion. He takes his time warming up to new people, and with patience, he’ll open up and show his true personality.During his in-kennel visits, Howlard showed progress in getting comfortable with human interaction. On his first visit, he cautiously accepted treats, and by the second, he allowed petting and even followed his visitor inside when it was time to leave. Though he’s still unsure about touch, he’s eager to bond once he feels secure. Howlard went on a doggie day out adventure on 1/29 and did great! He enjoyed walking around the american river and he is AMAZING ON LEASH! No pulling at all! He was a bit nervous in the car and whiney but settled down after getting used to it (he wanted to climb in the front so consider a seatbelt for sweet Howlard!) His person mentioned that he is Active, has a great pace, does not pull/ tug, great for long walks/hiking. He does find squirrels and small animals a bit too interesting so would recommend a home without small animals. Howlard had a great doggie day out adventure though! Howlard will do best in a calm, patient home where he can continue building trust and confidence. He may need time to adjust to new environments, and experienced dog owners who understand shy and independent behavior will be a great match for him. With the right family, Howlard will thrive and become a loyal companion who’s ready for a forever home. Could that be with you?
