Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Tyana is one of several dogs who were found on a ranch in the Texas Hill Country. We can only speculate, but we believe that the property owners moved away and left the dogs to fend for themselves.  Tyana's mom Lydia is VERY friendly, but her pups (two generations) are completely unsocialized, so we're guessing they may have been born after the people moved. It's quite possible that the Animal Control Officers who hauled away Tyana and her family were the first humans that she ever had any close contact with. At Windsong Ranch, Tyana is very slowly learning to trust me, but she is still extremely skittish of people in general. Getting her to walk on a leash in order to go to the vet's office is a real challenge, but we've managed it, and once at the vet's office, Tyana has remained calm and quiet. She seems content to stay inside the house, but seems happier and less anxious when she is outside. Tyana gets along well with other dogs and is very playful with them. We believe she would do best in a home with a confident male dog, who can help her see that humans are trustworthy. Due to her skittish nature, she MUST go to a home with secure (visible) fencing. If you are ready to make the commitment to devote yourself to earning Tyana's trust, please complete the application on our website. NOTE: I really struggle to get decent photos of Tyana -- she almost always looks very anxious, even when she's happy -- it's like she's in witness protection and thinks that having her photo taken puts her life at risk. In some of these photos, she is hanging out with other unsocialized or feral dogs, and moments before I pulled out my phone, they were usually happy and smiling, but as soon as I point the camera at them, most of them look like I might be about to kill them. Silly dogs. Also, in some photos, she has what looks like an injury diagonal across her face. Nope, that's just a berry stain. Tyana likes to dig, and it shows in some of these photos. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Young Bennie was picked up as a stray in our rural area, so we don't know anything about his past. He came into rescue with some skin issues which are being treated. At the moment, we're not sure whether he has seasonal allergies, or whether his itchiness was all related to Demodectic mange, which is very common in puppies and young dogs. What we DO know is that Bennie is sweet as can be! In his foster home, he loves having plenty of room for running his zoomies, and he enjoys playing with other dogs. He enjoys sleeping on a big comfy dog bed, and he is a little bit of a hoarder with his stuffed animal toys. Bennie has been neutered and vaccinated, and is ready to find his happily ever after story. Apply here!  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 28, 2024, 12:12 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. In late 2022, a family of 7 Akbash dogs were found as strays and trapped in Emory, Texas - 2 adults and 5 pups. Maria was thought to be the mom of the pups. Before rescuers were able to trap Maria, she was critically injured, most likely hit by a car. She managed to drag herself off the side of the road and into the woods. Thankfully we were able to find her and take her to our vet where x-rays showed that her pelvis had been shattered into several pieces, and her leg suffered multiple breaks including a splintered femoral head. Maria's best shot at surviving her injuries required amputating the damaged leg so that the weight of the leg wouldn't cause further injury to the pelvis. Maria has made tremendous progress in her recovery, and now is fully ambulatory as a tripawd. She's not going to enter any marathons, but she can walk and run in her play yard with no problems. She even manages to stand firm when her pups (who each weigh around 70 lbs now) stand up and put their front paws on her back. Her pups are almost as big as she is, so she has to be pretty sturdy to handle their weight on her back. Maria is a big, friendly girl who loves attention from her humans. She will stand right next to you, standing with one of her paws on your foot so that you can pet her. During her recovery, Maria got used to using puppy pads to do her business. Now, she waits until we let her outside. She is crate-trained and seems to like her crate as a good place to escape the rowdiness of her daughters. If Maria sounds like the perfect dog for you, please submit your application here: Welcome to BARN (bluebonnetrescue.org).Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 28, 2024, 12:12 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Say hello to Miss Jill E. Bear, sometimes also called Jill E. Bean! Jill gets along with other dogs, male or female. She is very playful with other dogs even if they are bigger than she is. Jill has spent some time in our chicken yard, and she has proven trustworthy around them, as if chickens are a natural part of the landscape. We're not sure whether she has any serious guardian instincts, but she could live in a home with a family who has a flock of backyard chickens, and with proper introductions, we believe she could be trusted not to harm them. Jill was a little bit timid when we first pulled her out of a small rural shelter, but she has really made good progress and has been friendly to the visitors she has met since arriving at our place, and she has been very friendly with everyone on her trips to the vet. She's a smart girl who quickly learned to sit for treats, and to sit and wait for her food bowl to be put down. Because we are currently so crowded with dogs, we haven't been able to move Jill inside the house. She lives outside mostly, with access to our garage for shelter. The only time we have had her in a crate is during transport, and she has behaved OK then. We would love to find a foster home for Jill where she could make the transition to living inside the house. Jill looks like she might be an Akbash mix or possibly a Great Pyrenees/Lab mix, but that's just our guess. She was picked up as a stray in a rural area so we don't know anything about her history. What we DO know is that she is very sweet, loves attention from her people, and deserves to have a home where she will get all the love and attention she can handle. If Jill's sweet face looks like one you want to have in your life, please complete the application on our website and we'll be glad to schedule a time for you to meet this pretty girl!  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 31, 2024, 7:25 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Genny was a stray dog roaming in a semi-rural area southeast of Dallas, who showed up one day with an injured leg. When we took Genny to see our vet, x-rays showed that her leg was full of pellets, presumably from a shotgun blast. One of the pellets went almost all the way through the bone, but it wasn't an injury that could be corrected with surgery.  She needed crate rest while her leg healed, so she has very good manners in the crate. In spite of the fact that people haven't been kind to her in the past, Genny is very sweet and loves people.  She is house/potty-trained and crate-trained. She gets along well with other dogs and is very playful. She loves going on adventures and meeting new people. She pulls on the leash in her excitement to explore everything, so she will definitely benefit from more practice leash-walking. She is also safe with our chickens and enjoys going into the chicken yard with us every day. If Genny sounds like exactly the dog for you, please complete the application here: https://www.bluebonnetrescue.org/forms/form?verify=abc123&formid=3796 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 28, 2024, 12:12 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. In late 2022, a family of 7 Akbash dogs were found as strays and trapped in Emory, Texas - 2 adults and 5 pups. Gretl is one of the pups from this litter. Gretl is young, big, and lean. Gretl is not as outgoing with people as her mom Maria is, but she has made much more progress in her socialization than her sisters have made. Gretl had an injury to her front right paw -- we're not sure if she was bitten by a spider or snake? Whatever it was, caused her whole paw to swell up terribly and it was definitely infected. We couldn't find a wound track or a foreign body, so we felt like it must have been a bite of some kind. Gretl made many visits to the vet for treatment, and all those trips were good for her socialization and leash-walking skills. Gretl gets along well with other dogs, and is house-trained and crate-trained, though we haven't kept her in a crate in several months because it hasn't been necessary. Gretl enjoys attention from her people, but she doesn't seek it out -- that might come with time. Momma Maria and the 3 sisters Gretl, Liesl, and Brigitta will be adopted out as companion animals and not livestock guardians. If Gretl sounds like the perfect dog for you, please submit your application today!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 28, 2024, 12:12 pm
