Story
Hi I'm Ducky! Why a dog named Ducky you ask? Well, I'm so small the rescue had ducky PJ's for me to help keep me warm when I was left abandoned at a pet store parking lot. Although, the PJ's were too big and didn't stay, the name did! It's nice to meet you on the internet, but I would really like to meet you in person. I am blind and a senior, but don't let that stop me from just being a lap of love. I even have a human friend that I really like to hang out with and can smell her when she comes in the house! My snout shows me the way to her lap and tackling of the hand game begins. Other than that, I travel just fine, cars are no issue, naps are the absolute best, and I am all down for a cute wardrobe with bows. Apply today and you won't regret it!

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All dogs listed here are available for adoption from Yorkie Rescue Houston.  Our goal is to ensure our rescued pets go to their forever home and never end up back in the system.  To that end, an application is required on all potential adopters.   Our adoption fee varies by dog.  We accept electronic funds via VENMO or Paypal, or cash only. Puppies too young to be spayed/neutered are available for Foster-to-Adopt only.  A FTA contract is required.   Heidie was picked up as a stray by the Montgomery County Animal Shelter.  She was filthy, sick, flea infested, matted and had rotting teeth  in her mouth with infection.  She had a severe cough and was ready to die.  The shelter rescue coordinator reached out to us and we said yes!  She completed her 3 day stray hold, cos, 'the law, ya know'  and went to our vet immediately.  She was on 2 different antibiotics, cough tabs, and sent home with multiple ear medications due to both ears full of gunk.(infection) She had shut down.  Lethargy and malaise were all we got our of her.  She cried when we medicated her.  Pain management was introduced. Then, one day, she let us medicate her without too much struggle, then the next day, it was less a struggle.  She came to us for loves and pets.  She started seeking affection.  She soon began to play.  She can hear!! She's a delightful, sweet girl who will do well with in a home where she can be your couch and bed buddy.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 2, 2024, 3:10 pm

Puppies too young to be spayed/neutered are available for Foster-to-Adopt only.  A FTA contract is required.   Surrendered to a family friend when the original owner lost their home in Hurricane Beryl, they were surrendered to our rescue so they could receive the vetting they desperately needed. This girl was severely neglected and possibly abused.  Her Foster mom reports: Marie is much better, she still does not like men .  She does like females and she comes to me when I call her. She stopped hiding outside so no more glow collar. She is eating well and likes to eat in her crate but will graze in the kitchen. She is sweet and loving but only to me. She is completely house broken and does not pee or poop in the crate. She still  hides in the house. I think she will always be timid and insecure. Her forever home should be with a female and maybe one other dog or cat. She does get aggressive out of jealousy . She puts up with my husband but doesn't trust him so a male must be very Patient with her and vey loving. She sleeps with us and likes to be covered in a blanket. She will come lay by me later at night.  She's as good as she's going to be. Her forever family needs to show lots of love. She is still not leashed trained , she is very afraid of cars and unfamiliar places. NO KIDS UNDER 14! 1 other dog OK.      Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 27, 2024, 9:38 pm

Story
BOOSTS YOUR MOOD, MAKES YOU SMILE  Est. DOB 1/7/15, WEIGHT 12.7 lbs. Arf! Arf, everyone! I’m Sammy, a sweet, friendly, quiet, and affectionate white Maltipoo (Maltese/ Mini Poodle mix) fella who is, in my humble opinion, the world’s greatest little dog. I think my foster mom agrees because she loves it that I curl up and settle in her lap whenever I can. There are two resident dogs and a cat in my foster home, but I’m much rather interact with beloved Foster Mom than play with them. I have a comical idiosyncrasy: I like to burrow under anything I can move and get under. You name it – bedcovers, blankets, pillows, throws. Foster Mom thinks it’s adorable that a cute little thing such as I am likes to excavate my own little lair like a mole. Let me tell you a little about Maltipoos. We’re gentle, social dogs who love people. Our happy, cheerful dispositions are guaranteed to boost your mood and make you smile. We can even be good therapy dogs because of the comfort we provide. And I’m no exception to this profile! I really looked like a mess when my foster mom first rescued me! Oh my goodness – I weighed only 10 pounds! You could see every bone on my vertebrae, plus I had no hair on my back. My eyes were practically glued shut with “goop” from an infection; I also had an ear infection; and my mouth was a mess from neglected preventative dentistry. Thank heavens Foster Mom and the vet have transformed me into a new man! With a steady diet of nutritious food, I’ve gained 2.5 pounds, I’m filling out nicely, and my fur is growing back! I’m eating a soft diet that’s appropriate after all of the diseased teeth (that hadn’t already fallen out) have been pulled. I look and feel so much better! And the silver lining about having no teeth is that I don't need any future dental cleanings! Medications have cleared up my original eye and ear infections. The vet also diagnosed that I have a condition called “dry eye,” which means that I don’t produce tears like I should. So Foster Mom puts drops in my eyes twice a day and cleans out any “goop” once to twice a day Thanks to the hair around my eyes being clipped, Foster Mom can clean out my eyes easier. I have cataracts in both eyes so I have very limited visibility and bump into things, but get around once I've learned my way! I generally move slow so I don’t hurt myself ! Even though I sleep a good portion of the day, I am quite aware of sounds and scents. I will sound the alarm at unfamiliar noises. I will track Foster Mom down if she has moved from where I left her using my superior olfactory senses. My ideal home would be one that has a doggie door to a small fenced back yard and someone to keep me company.  I’m so grateful for all the love and attention that I’m getting! In return, I snuggle and cuddle like you wouldn’t believe! I’ve learned how to use the doggie door, and I’m now crate-trained. If you’re looking for a cozy lap dog and can look past my limitations, I’d really like to be your dog! Half of my life is still ahead of me, so let’s spend it together! My heart has so much love to give, all that’s missing is YOU! HOPE ID D22-1129-0031 If you are interested in Sammy and would like to fill out a Dog Adoption Application, please go to:   http://www.homelesspets.net/adoption-forms/dog-adoption.php   . Submitting an application does not obligate you to adopt from us but it initiates contact with us and gets the process started.
