Story
Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.  Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.  Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.  Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team   Date into Rescue:11/6/24 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release. Owner is becoming homeless and wants Sprocket to have a good home. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Sprocket is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Weight: 20 lbs (est) Height: 14 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $349 Fence needed? No, but he would enjoy one. Sprocket has a lot of energy to burn off and prefers to be the only dog in the area. What kind of home would be best for me? Sprocket is best as the only dog in the home. His fearless, terrier instincts make him prone to challenging other dogs, regardless of size, and he doesn’t get along with cats either. For this reason, he would thrive in a single-pet household where he can enjoy all the attention. Sprocket would do best with an experienced dog owner, particularly someone familiar with terriers and their strong personalities. He could fit into a house or apartment and would be perfectly happy in a home with a single person or a couple. If you live in a community setting (apartment, townhome, etc.) be prepared that Sprocket is NOT a dog park sort of guy. He also isn't interested in group play dates or walking sessions.  What is my personality like? Meet Sir Sprocket of Inman, your new highly active best friend! Sir Sprocket, a spirited, feisty terrier ready to bring lots of energy and personality into your life! Sprocket came to us after his previous owners became homeless and made the selfless decision to surrender him, hoping he would find a loving new home. Now, he's looking for an active family that can keep up with his high energy and bold spirit. Sprocket is a high-energy dog who thrives on exercise and mental stimulation. He loves to play, run, and stay active, so he needs a family who enjoys outdoor adventures like walks, hikes, and runs. A securely fenced yard where he can burn off his energy would be ideal but be prepared—he'll likely tire you out first! Without enough physical and mental outlets, Sprocket may become restless or destructive. Sprocket is a confident, courageous, and independent little dog. He's not shy about asserting himself and can be stubborn at times. While he’s very alert and would make a great watchdog, Sprocket needs an experienced owner who understands his strong-willed nature. Sprocket resource guards his food, toys, and space, especially in his run. If you're near him during mealtime it's important to give him space and let him finish before approaching. When it comes to toys, distraction is the best method to avoid conflict. His space here is his run and when the gate is closed, he resource guards it. We stand to the side and open the gate. Once outside of his "territory," Sprocket is calm and affectionate, and he’s perfectly happy being picked up and cuddled. He's going to be best in a home where crating and barriers are minimal to non-existent. Sprocket walks on a leash but pulls, so he will need consistent leash training. He also needs to learn basic commands like sit, stay, down, and come. With patience and guidance, Sprocket will become a well-mannered companion. Sprocket is not house trained. We do not crate him due to his tendency to resource guard his space. How do I act when I first meet new people? Sprocket can be a bit protective of his space, and when meeting new people, he may bark or bare his teeth if you enter his "territory." However, once he’s away from his run, he’s friendly and quick to warm up to you. With a little patience, you’ll quickly see his affectionate and playful side. Other tips and tidbits: Sprocket was originally found as a stray back in 2022. At the time, it was estimated he was 3ish years old. We celebrate Sprocket's birthday 11/6/2019. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.   To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR. December 3, 2024, 5:52 pm
