You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :)When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :)Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!Well can I just say I LOVE the ranch!!  My last house had 148 dogs and it was REALLY nasty!!!  The authorities finally came and got us all!!  Here at the ranch I get spa days and the food is real good and we have a huge field to play in!!  My best friend is Layla.  She is really scared so I stay close to her so she feels safe and hopefully at some point she will start to trust humans again.  The volunteers are really nice.  They hold us and talk to us and its VERY different from what we were used to!  Mom says she is going to attach some pics of where we lived but I am happy to forget all about that and enjoy life.REQUIREMENTS to adopt GiGiMUST HAVE ANOTHER SMALL DOGMUST HAVE A FENCED YARDVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.   A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!January 27, 2025, 12:33 am

Story
NAME: Darcy BREED: Yorkie/Poodle Mix BIRTHDAY: 2016 WEIGHT: 20lbs ADOPTION FEE: $150 (Darcy and Nella are bonded and must be adopted together!) &#226&#128&#139 Darcy and Nella came to us from a breeder who was closing her doors. She had surrendered her other dogs to different rescues and said she was going to keep Darcy and Nella as her personal pets. Imagine the surprise of the rescuers who helped her when they saw the girls posted on a "free to a good home" site! We were immediately contacted and we happily agreed to take the girls, and thankfully they were able to get to us before being given away to someone who may not have been able to care for them properly (or keep them together). &#226&#128&#139 In foster care, Darcy and Nella have been very sweet and easy. They get along well with dogs of all sizes and are very polite with cats. Nella has had a few accidents but in general they seem house trained, they are happy to take walks or go to new places, and they are friendly with new people after a couple minutes of warming up. Our groomer said they were both very well behaved for their spa day, and now they look as lovely on the outside as they are inside! This is a truly wonderful pair who will be a blessing to their forever family! &#226&#128&#139 *Both girls came to us a little itchy, which could be a result of a poor diet or other external factors. To help them be comfortable, we got a Cytopoint injection for Darcy and are giving Nella Apoquel. Hopefully they will not need medications long term, but it should be something an adopter is prepared for. Please note that these girls are bonded and MUST be adopted together!  February 17, 2025, 6:28 pm

Story
DOB Christmas Day 12-25-2023 Kevin is for sure an angel. He loves to play with the other pups, toys and is social. Kevin is neutered, heartworm negative and has received a Proheart 6 preventative injection. His adoption fee is 950.00, transport fee is 165.00 and paid to our transport company, HEARTS LLC He will get a physical and health certificate before he leaves. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.

Story
Hello, hello! My name is Bentley, and I am so very glad to meet you! I`m a young Yorkie, and I`m only about two years old. I`m a happy, playful boy, and I`m looking for my forever home.I came here as a stray. What? It`s possible - not saying it`s true - but it`s possible that my family was not prepared for some of my behavior. I have a bad habit of `marking` things I think belong to me. For example, I will mark the corner of your couch, your walls, your favorite rug, and anything else that may be laying around. I might not have been neutered at an early age, making it easier for me to develop that nasty habit of marking. I`m pretty smart, and if you show me how, I promise to try to get better about that. For now, though I will have to wear a belly band when I`m inside.I hope the family that adopts me understands and has experience with dogs wearing belly bands. It can`t stay on all the time or my belly and my little peepee will get really sore. It should be used along with potty training, not as a substitute.I also have a bit of separation anxiety. I`m probably not going to be destructive when you`re gone, but I`ll probably bark and cry. Loudly. If you have close neighbors, they might not appreciate my singing. I guess I`ll just have to go with you wherever you go.Hey, it`s not all bad, though! I`m super-cute, and I`m tiny - just under seven pounds! I`m a great little companion for a retired person or couple who will be home a lot with me. I get along with other little dogs, but the big guys scare the heck out of me. I`d be OK being an only-dog, too. That way I`d get all your attention!I`m already neutered, current on vaccines, heart worm negative, and microchipped! If you`re ready to welcome me into your home, and you understand what it means to have a dog with a belly band, complete and submit an adoption application. The staff and I are hoping there will be lots of people who are willing to accept me as I am, and they promised to find me the very best home!

Story
Ryker would thrive most in a home as he was the only pet. He has been socialized with other dogs but not regularly, and it can be hit or miss. He currently lives with two cats and requires redirection daily when it comes to interacting with them. He has a small dog attitude and requires a lot of attention, so I want him to go to a home where he will be with his owners. Work from home or retired. He sleeps in his room at night, gated, not crated. He is very playful and will bring you his toys to play fetch. He signals to go outside and responds to the question, " Potty?" He eats twice a day, pedigree small breed half and half with pedigree wet food. He is around younger teen boys but not small children and feels more comfortable with no small children being part of your application. He is up to date on shots, not fixed, and does not have bad "unfixed behaviors" if you know what I mean to answer any questions about that.
