Story
Meet Shania, our beautiful little comeback girl — and just like her country music namesake, she’s ready for a brand-new chapter filled with love, understanding, and the right environment to truly shine. Shania is a sweet JRT/Westie mix girl who is happy, lively and just 1-year, weighing just 12 pounds. Her look is a charming wiry coat paired with an absolutely darling personality. She enjoys leash walks, watching the world go by, and will happily investigate any squirrel bold enough to cross her path. She’s wonderful with other dogs, cats, and is friendly with men she meets out in public. Inside the home, however, Shania needs a very specific setup to feel safe and secure. Due to something in her past, she becomes protective if a man lives in the home and believes she must guard the woman she loves. Because of this, Shania needs a female-only household with no men living in the home. In the right environment, she relaxes, settles beautifully, and shows just how loving and joyful she truly is. She is currently working on potty training and does well using potty pads, and with continued consistency, she will keep improving. Shania is small, affectionate, and full of potential — she simply needs the right person who understands her and is willing to give her the peaceful, predictable home she deserves.  If you think you could be the perfect match for this special girl, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com. PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comJanuary 24, 2026, 12:03 pm

Story
We have a wide range of sizes, breeds, and personalities who have been waiting for a long time to find homes in which to live out their lives. All have been vet-checked, spayed/neutered and updated on shots. Some are in great health and hopefully will have many years to enjoy with their new owners... others are being treated for some medical issues and need some extra care to keep them happy and comfortable for whatever time they have left. We do not have a shelter- all our pets are in foster homes and can be seen by appointment only during the week, or at our weekly pet adoptions every Sunday at the Animal Clinic of Morris Plains from 12:30 to 3PM at 3009 Route 10 East next to 5 Star Car Wash (formerly Boulder Car Wash) in Morris Plains (Denville on GPS). To help us better match a pet to your household, we request you fill out an application on our homepage www.secondchance.petfinder.com and copy and paste it into an email, or print it and bring it to our adoption day when you come. Local inquiries only please- we do not do long distance adoptions. Can't adopt but still want to help this dog? Click on the "Sponsor Me" button at the top of this page to donate toward his/her care! All donations are tax-deductible and go directly toward the care of our rescue dogs. Thank you for your support!

Story
Introducing Chewy! This 13 year old Yorkie was one of our last intakes of 2025, surrendered because his owner had health issues and couldn’t care for him. He’s a sweet very old-acting senior, can sleep through pretty much anything. He is blind and probably doesn’t have the best hearing either, so gets confused at first but is doing better once in a routine now in foster. He had some gi issues and a nasty longterm urinary tract infection made worse by being kept in a diaper. But he is doing better with medication and a special diet and definitely starting to feel better. He’s fine with other mellow dogs he can nap with and is just looking for a quiet place to live out the end of his life loved and pampered, however long that may be. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet old man Chewy in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Meet Reeses, as in Reese’s Pieces 🍬 When we first met her she was terrified and wanted to rip us to pieces, but give her a few days and she will love you to pieces instead! Nothing is more rewarding than earning the trust of these scared little ones whose instinct is to lash out when scared, and watching their entire personality change once they realize they can trust you. This under 2 year old scruffy yorkie/Shih tzu mix has plenty of reason to be so distrustful. Her owner never socialized her with other people and would go on vacations and leave her alone in her apartment for days at a time. One day she got evicted and just left this scared little girl behind. Luckily authorities found her before it was too late and healthwise she’s just fine. Her emotional trauma from being left alone so much and getting proper socialization as a puppy are much harder to overcome. Once she loves you, there is no better snuggler. If she could somehow melt into you or fuse herself to your lap like some kind of siamese twin she would do it in a heartbeat. Velcro dog isn’t a strong enough term, she’s more like a magnet 🧲 who will do whatever it takes to get to her person. No gate can hold her, she climbs out of any expen, leaps or squeezes through extra tall baby gates (we haven’t witnessed all of her magical escapes, just know she’s always somehow popping up places she’s not supposed to be 😆). Luckily she’s (grudgingly) cratable though not quietly and will need some practice being left alone- it takes her some time screaming out her protests but she does eventually settle and go to sleep. Unless you want to come home and find her walking around on top of your kitchen counter or refrigerator like a cat we definitely recommend sticking with the crate training. Reeses is looking for a patient adult home that will love this crazy little monkey 🙉 flying squirrel 🐿️ cat 🐈 hybrid, for better or worse, and have a sense of humor about her antics and adventurous spirit. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Reeses in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. Story
Meet Rubble (rhymes with trouble) a scruffy 7 month old little terrier mix who was abandoned in a carrier by a dumpster as a scared little puppy. We thought about naming him Dumpster Fire since his entire life has been one giant one 🗑️ 🔥, but that sounds a little awkward to be out in your yard yelling randomly. Adopted by a very loud bush active family with a pack of young boisterous children that would not leave him alone, he defending himself the only way an adorable 10lbs puppy who looks like a stuffed animal but definitely didn’t want to be treated that way could 😖. And them his owners were determine to have this awful pup euthanized and out of their house ASAP! He’s learned to protect his space, food, and resources, is very hand shy and on guard but once he realizes you aren’t an annoying toddler trying to pull his tail and you aren’t going to scream at him for protecting himself from the wild pack of children, he melts into a fun playful cuddly puppy. He’s given us no issues at all and fallen in line with the other dogs, so we see great potential in him. He’s right at that age where there’s still time to turn his life around in the right environment and with the right force-free training and socialization, but he needs someone committed to rebuilding his faith that his person will defend him so he doesn’t have to. Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. Story
Meet Costanza! He's a super cute friendly little terrier guy with a unique little bald head that make him extra awkwardly adorable!Only about a year old, we think he is a yorkie maybe mixed with schnauzer or some other kind of terrier. He's full of puppy energy and excited and a fun active little guy. He has a very thin hair coat in certain spots and the vet thinks its mostly likely color dilution alopecia due to his grey coloring- we aren't sure if his hair will grow back or not but it's not causing any issues and the skin is healthy. He's 13lbs and looking for an active family that will include him in their outings and adventures and enjoy training an energetic pup. Please submit an application to meet him Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: Tan Weight: 13 Age: 1yrs 1mths 2wks
