Story
Sir Winston Bailey came to us very ill and thin, in diabetic ketoacidosis, after the people caring for him failed to give him insulin for over a month. His owner had loved him very much, but had been hospitalized. His vet called us, as she new this dog had way too much spunk to not be treated. We have had him since May and have been making sure he gets the best of care. He is a 9 year old Yorkie, now almost 9 pounds (he was 5 lbs when we got him) and is both blind and diabetic. Because of his small size, his diabetes has been harder to control that many diabetic dogs, although he is doing much better. Any adopters must take on the cost of his care (about $300 monthly for insulin, prescription dog food, and glucose sensors, with up to $2000 in a hypoglycemic emergency), keep up his monitoring with the Univ of Illinois Internal Medicine Department at the Vet School, and keep him on strict feeding and exercise schedules. His diabetes does lead him to pee more frequently, although he is generally pretty good with puppy pads. Bailey is a wonderful dog, affectionate and brave, undaunted by all that has happened to him medically. He is down to four teeth, but he still tells off big dogs, although has been great with the dogs and cats in his foster home. He has been a favorite of all who have met him. HIs $300 adoption fee covers his many vet visits, vaccines, heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, deworming medication, and microchip registration. Story
Please welcome Calvin! He's a 2-year-old, 10-pound Yorkie mix. This poor guy was running loose for a while before someone finally caught him. He was very matted, but is looking quite dapper with his haircut. Calvin would prefer to have someone home with him as much as possible. He'd like to cuddle with you, and is pretty good with people in general. Although, he might bark at anyone who appears to be a threat to you. He is decent with the dogs and cat in his foster home. But, he may chase a cat who runs away. Calvin is fine in a car, and he is not bad on a leash. He prefers not to be contained in a crate while in the home. However, this is something that can be worked with. He definitely needs a secure leash, or very secure fence, anytime he is outdoors. We feel he should not be in a home with shared walls (I.e. apartment/condo) unless you're home with him most of the day. We are also unsure how he is with young children. Can you give this guy the new beginning, and happily ever after, that he deserves? https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog His minimum adoption donation amount is $325. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, heart worm checked, and on flea/tick and heart worm preventatives. We are located in Bloomington, IL We do not ship, you would need to travel to pick up your babies if you live out of state. Your current pets must be up-to-date on core vaccines, spayed/neutered, and on heart worm prevention year round. You must be at least 21-years-old to adopt. Please have your veterinarian and two non-family reference phone numbers ready. The app makes you start all over if you leave the page to look up numbers. Story
Tiny Tim may be small in size and big on personality, but his heart? That’s larger than life! This 5-year-old, 16-pound Yorkie is ready to bring a whole lot of love to his forever home. Tiny Tim’s back legs might not work perfectly due to an old injury that healed a little wonky, but don’t let that fool you—he’s a pro at getting around! He walks like a champ on grass and carpet and does his best on smooth floors (though he might need a little encouragement when it’s slippery). Stairs? Not his thing, but he’s happy to wait patiently for you to give him a lift. This sweet boy adores his humans and lights up when you come home, showing off his signature “smile” of excitement. He loves playing with toys, lounging nearby, and being your loyal sidekick. Tiny Tim is pretty quiet and is working hard on his house training, making great progress! While Tiny Tim is gentle and loving, we think he’d do best in a home with kids 12+ who understand his past injury and can be cautious around him. Bonus points: He’s a car ride superstar and a perfect gentleman in the bathtub. If you’re looking for a loving companion who will make you smile every day, Tiny Tim is ready to fill that role—and your heart. His minimum adoption fee is $300 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
