Please read the bio in full for answers to common questions. If you have a question not covered here, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Because all of our dogs live in foster homes, meet-and-greets are scheduled only after a completed application is received. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance of Mays Landing, NJ so our volunteers can conduct an in-person home visit. Hi. Chewy here. The handsome 8-year-old Yorkie with the great hair, the cutest ears and an even better personality. I’ve been told I should introduce myself if I want to find my forever home… so here goes nothing. I’m a sweet, slightly shy gentleman who believes in love, naps, and keeping things running smoothly. Some might call me “the fun police.” I prefer Director of Household Operations. If there’s zoomies happening at 9:47 PM when bedtime is clearly 9:45, I will be monitoring the situation.  Now let’s address the tiny boss in the room, my bonded partner, Lulu. Lulu is a 7-year-old, pint-sized queen. She is what the experts call a “one-person dog.” What that means is: once she chooses you, congratulations, you now have a shadow. A very cute, very determined shadow. She has zero interest in hobbies, side quests, or social clubs. Her only passion? You. All of you. All the time. Every second. Honestly, I respect that level of commitment. Me? I’m happy to let her take center stage. I don’t mind riding shotgun in this relationship. I’m secure. I know I’m adorable. While Lulu is busy supervising your every move, I’d love a fenced-in yard where I can explore, sniff, and conduct important perimeter checks. I’m a curious, medium-energy guy, and running around and playing with other dogs is my jam. A yard is my dream come true. We’re both:
✔ Good with dogs
✔ Good with cats
✔ Good with kids
✔ Excellent professional bed snugglers We fully believe the bed belongs to the humans… and also to us. We will sleep there. We will look cute doing it. You won’t even mind. What we’re looking for is simple: a home where we can be the center of your world. Lulu will handle the devotion. I’ll handle morale and light rule enforcement. Together, we’re the perfect balance of sass and sweetness. We are fully vetted with dentals and Lulu got herself a spay so if you’ve been missing a tiny boss and her loyal sidekick, we’re ready to move in. Love,
Chewy (and Lulu, who is currently supervising this post) 🐾

Story
ABOUT BEAR Bear is a 6-year-old Yorkie boy hoping for a fresh start. He came to HAP when his owners were no longer able to care for him, and sadly, he arrived in rough shape. Bear was suffering from severe dermatitis, eye and ear infections, and significant obesity. While he is now on a weight-management plan and his skin is slowly but surely clearing up, his eyes were damaged beyond repair, and he required the enucleation of both eyes. Now, Bear is a sweet, resilient boy who’s navigating the world with fresh eyes, just not in the way he once did. Bear is learning to explore life through his other senses. Each day brings progress, as he’s steadily figuring out his surroundings, bumping into fewer things as his confidence grows. Since everything in the world is still so new, Bear will thrive in a patient, understanding home that’s committed to keeping his environment safe and predictable. While he was in constant pain before surgery, his discomfort sometimes caused him to act out. Now that he is all healed up, Bear has been well mannered and sweet with our team! Since he's blind, it's important that an adopter is willing to take things slow with him. For example, if someone suddenly grabs him unexpectedly, he may snap out of fear. However, talking to him and letting him know you are there helps reassure him everything is okay! Despite all he’s been through, Bear’s gentle spirit shines. He loves treats, and will happily sniff them out from across the room, and he’s been enjoying enrichment activities like snuffle mats that let him use his sharp nose. He also adores being talked to; he’ll tilt his head sweetly as he listens, taking in every word. While belly rubs aren’t really his style, he’ll gladly relax beside you and soak in some soft, reassuring pets. Bear is brave, loving, and doing his best to adjust. With patience, kindness, and a calm environment, he’ll continue to blossom into the wonderful companion he’s meant to be! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
